surprisingly sweet, still dark and rich. maple, caramel and a touch of cherry. very fine foam on top, deep brown color, good smell but not too prominent. kinda boozy.

April 12th, 2016 - A mild and meaty aroma on the Widow, this is a calm and somewhat rarer style to find in San Diego. A nice, cigar colored beer in the glass, it also has a full mouthed flavor, with low and slow carbonation, and a drizzle of honey and pipe tobacco in the mid-taste, and a finish of roasted chestnuts.

Had on tap. Shimmering blackish brown with a mushroom head. Smell is predominately dark fruit, toffee and booze. Taste adds more spices and malt dimension. Lighter in the body for style, but very smooth though warm. Nice work

With a opaque straight brown color, it has good phynols to support the dark dried fruits, dark biscuit, caramel and dark wheat bread flavors. The Alcohol isn’t noticeable, which is interesting as it has the apricot bread aroma and aftertaste. Overall, this is interestingly refreshing for a Belgian Strong. Other good Belgian Strongs I recommend is Dark Truth from Boulevard Brewing and Dubbel Vission from Aftershock Brewing.

My favorite beer. I love Belgian beers. Chimay was always a good option, before I moved to San Diego. This is now my favorite, but you have to get it at the source. So, if you aren't in San Diego, don't waste your time looking.
