Picked up a six pack of Hurricanes last night for myself and some friends. Taste is a lot like Bud, just a bit stronger. The metal can doesn't really help it, but I've had 40s as well, and they've tasted pretty similarly. The biggest negative of it is that it picks up the taste of the can towards the bottom.

Mouthfeel is okay, as is smell. The appearance is what you'd expect, not tremendous, but not bad either.

CAN you comprehend the effort it takes to find new CANs for the CANQuest (TM) these days? I was in DC over the weekend and stopped at a VA Safeway to see what was available and there were CANs of this one! Bingo.

Seemingly par for the Malt Liquor course, I got two fingers' worth of fluffy, bone-white head that fell like they had been struck from behind. Color was a golden-yellow with NE-quality clarity. Nose was faintly fusel compared to many that I have put away on this hosed-up mission. The style is designed to knock you around on the cheap and I said as much to a fellow yesterday when he commented on my choice, stopping only when I noticed that he had some in his cart. Whoops! Mouthfeel was medium with a dryness that left me sucking for air. Wow! Finish was equally dry with a slight fusel flavor that lingered. Frankly, this was not as obnoxious as many offerings in the style.

From the 24 fl. oz. can 10112-NB44. Sampled on June 19, 2010. Everything about this is typical for an adjunct high gravity malt liquor although not carried off as well as some. It pours pale yellow with a little thin white head that dissolves right away. While there are malt hints in the aroma, the main smell I get is metal. The mouthfeel is OK but the taste has a bit of corn and malts but the alcohol remains the most predominant ingredient.

Poured appx 6 oz. from 24 oz can into glass for reviewing purposes.
Won't do that again.
This beer is meant to be drunk straight from the container, not poured into a snifter like some Abbey ale.
It looks alright, smells kinda overly corny, but it is definitely an American beer.
The choice of sophisticated malt liquor drinkers everywhere.
But since I am not sophisticated, I will stick with Mickey's or Olde E.

Keeping in mind this is a malt liquor, I didn't hold out much hope for it. That being said, I know I didn't rate it very high, but it was better then I thought it was going to be. It's no where near as harsh as Steel Reserve, which is probably the nastiest of malt liquors out there. Poured into o pint glass its plae yellow in color, with a whole lot of foam. It has a sweetness in the taste thats kind of appealing. All in all no where near a great beer, but if pay day is ways of and you want something cheap to get the job done this will do it.

24oz can
6.0% ABV version

Hurricane High Gravity Lager was pale gold in color with good clarity. It had a large white head that quickly disappeared. The aroma was light and clean, just a generic beer smell. There was not much flavor to speak of, but what what was there was not good. It was somewhat sweet upfront with a dry finish. The body was light and watery with lighter than expected carbonation. Drinkability was not good. This is not a beer that I will purchase again. Maybe the regular version would be better.

Poured this 24 oz. can into a large mug.

Appearance: This malt liquor poured a light golden color. See through when held to the light, it looks like a typical American Adjunct lager. A standard pour leads to a thick white, 2 finger head. Light carbonation through out the beverage.

Smell: Interesting yet dissatisfying. Heavy mixes of roasted, sweet, and burned corn on the nose. Follows with heavy alcohol scent.

Taste: As the smell would suggest, plenty of corn to start on the pallate. Keeping the beer in the mouth provided plenty of alcohol flavor afterwards.

Mouthfeel: This beer had an average feel on the mouth for this style of beer. Light body leads to an alcohol burn finish.

Drinkability: These can go down easy after a few. Heavy alcohol flavor and burn makes it hard to sip on this.

Final Thoughts - I reviewed this with the style in mind. Not a terrible malt liquor but nothing special either. Pick it up if you need a cheap brew as a single. Otherwise don't bother.

live review 3/15/09 - can>pint glass

A 2.5 - small head gone quick, reduced to a micro size lace collar, medium golden straw in color
S 2.0 - minor sweet alcohol aroma, some minor honey notes & skunky-ness
T 2.5 - better than some other malt liquors in my opinion - not to sweet like some others can be
MF 2.5 - high carbonation, thin body, you can sense the alcohol presence
D 2.5 - almost drinkable for a malt liquor, I would rink it if I am broke or if it is my only beer option, thats about it. Good for the style I guess.

Pours a super light yellow/white color with average head with average lacing and average carbonation. The dominate smell is corn and mild malts. First taste is light, sweet, and lcking in body and taste. After the corn, the dominate flavor is WATER. Not worth buying or drinking. AVOID!!

Pours a dark yellow reddish color with a quickly dying foam with very little retention. Just a splotchy thin amount remains. Smells okay, nothing special, but nothing that scares me away either. Overwhelming malt as would be expected. Tastes, interesting. Very thick taste, again, as would be expected. I can't pinpoint it, but the taste of this is somewhat unpleasant for me. Not impressive mouthfeel. As it's in my mouth I can't help but think "There's no reason to drink this besides the quick buzz", which also makes me feel strange.

Good party beer, but not a good beer.

I've decided to begin my beer reviews by starting at the bottom of the barrel. Bought a 24 oz can of this with the sole intention of reviewing it for this site. Malt Liquor has one simple purpose: intoxication at a bargain. This is easily deciphered by looking at the marketing on the can. The slogan for this beer is "Brewed for a distinctive bold taste." This is clever rhetoric from our friends at Anheuser-Busch. The feces/urine mixture in the bottom of an outhouse also has a "distinctive bold taste," not unsimilar to this beer. Also, the 8.1% alcohol content is printed in font the same size as for the name of the beer. Nice.
Beer had a big head with huge bubbles that quickly disappeared. No lacing at all. Has that semi-cloudy dark gold color that lets you know you will probably be vomiting blood after enough of these. Clean malt/rice smell. Tastes just like it smells - nothing really sticks out. My favorite part was the astringent aftershock where the alcohol can be felt throughout the mouth. Mouthfeel is unremarkable until the bite at the end.
I noticed on each successive sip that I was disliking this beer more and more. Back in my drunk-on-a-budget days I would have quaffed a 40 of High Life or Steel Reserve over Hurricane, Camo, or anything else whose name has to do with natural disasters/combat. Poured the rest of this one down the sink. The good thing about this beer is that the person seriously drinking this to get drunk couldn't care less about its taste. I believe this beer would be best enjoyed 3 at a time out of a giant multi-valved beer bong.

The 24 ounce can, 8.1% abv.

Appearance - somewhat deepened golden color, a very white head froths up to about a finger then subsides with some thought to leaving lace but not quite getting it done. Moderate bead helps the head hold on a bit but it goes bare inside of two minutes.

Aroma - kicks off quite fruity and sweet. As it settles, it loses some of the sweetness and bends towards a more general grain and adjunct based beer scent. Interesting but fairly typical.

Taste - very grain/corn-fed flavor, sweetness is complementary and the alcohol is evident without really adding or taking away from the overall experience. No hop flavor except *maybe* a brief touch on the aftertaste, it's hard to tell if that's hops or fizz. The sweetness and alcohol create a rather 'wet' finish.

Mouthfeel - high carbonation, rather burp-inducing. Feels a bit solid with the abv and sweetness.

Drinkability - not a beer made to experience the enjoyment of beer. Bud on steroids, not totally bad but watch out that next morning.

Sure, this isn't some crazy silly awesome beer, but, it's still ok. I used to get it when I was in college, cause it was $.99 a can! that's awesome. $.99 for a 22oz. and it wasn't toally nasty beer. It was a very light colored beer, with a very short lived head, most likely from carbonation. Had a kind of semi-sweet taste to it, but nothing too noticebale. Finished kinda harsh, but what do you expect.

Ok, rating this as it is. A Malt Liquor. So it's not the most complex beer. It's not the most popular style. I'm fine with that. Well excuse the rambling, time to review this Farm Store Refrigerator Shelf Turd. Ok, this bottle is pure sexiness. Mmm, an H with wings screams buy me! Well this is a good looking brew (no sarcasm). It's a nice shade of yellow with a hint of orange. There was a one finger white soapy head that went away fast. Well let's smell this now. This smells like Western America, Grains, Fertilizer and Rust. Not much to it, but with Malt Liquor it's all about the Bold and Smooth body on it.
Still I go into this beast with an open mind. This tastes better than Bud Ice. The flavor is a lot better than the aroma. There is a first wave of grains and corn juice. There is a sweetness to this brew that is both sweet and tart. With this there is no hop presence only a sweet slightly fruity finish no bitterness. The body on this brew is medium-light and smooth. Carbonation is a bit rough but for $2.50 a Forty, who can argue?

Overall: This brew isn't awful. I have no problem killing the Forty. Bud Ice Forty though is another story. I gave this beer it's fair shake. I know what it is, sometimes I like to spend $2.50 on a single....Forty Ounce! This brew is Worth a Shot.

Ice cold 40 poured into a very clean glass after shoveling 6 inches of snow on 18 degree (5 degree wind chill) Kentucky day.

A - Pours a golden color with a 1 finger head that retreats to a thin lace.

S - Sweetness and corn. You don't buy malt liquor for the bouquet.

T - Adjunct dominated with some sweetness.

M - Decent carbonation level - a very clean finish.

O - I'll openly admit that I've like this stuff for a long time. I used to think it was just King Cobra in a different package but they are totally different animals. This is a malt liquor after all...inexpensive and gets the job done. Frankly I have always wondered why regular BMC drinkers don't go for this stuff since I think it tastes better than Bud or BL and packs a decent punch.

While my rating may seem high, remember that this is malt liquor. People drink malt liquor for two reasons: it's cheap and it gets you ripped. I don't really know of any malt liquor that is truly a pleasant drink, but given price, ABV, and smoothness, Hurricane is the best malt liquor available IMO. you can still get a 40oz for under $3 in many places, and because of this, if you're looking for a cheap buzz, you can afford an extra to pour out for your homies.

We used to refer to this beast as "Slurricane"

APPEARANCE: 1.99 a bottle. They gave me a paper bag and put the bottle in it. In traditional fashion it was consumed appearing in its usual guise, the aforementioned bag. Nothing less than an average appearance in this most exceptional case.

SMELL: Sweet corn, unified grains, and a sweet green apple taffy scent. Malt liquor in many ways is like candy for drunkards and enthusiasts alike.

TASTE: Grainy and somewhat sweet upfront, but balanced by an odd cooked vegetable hop and grain one-two punch. Some flaccid bitterness but nothing really balances much besides the drying cardboard finish. Definitely an exceptional and perplexing dryness in a mostly stale fashion.

FEEL: Light bodied, champagne like carbonation, and more than ample stale dryness.

OVERALL: Now listed at 6% abv, this is a cheap, accessible and easy to consume beverage. It's alot more of a beer than the fruit infused lagers taking over the market these days. I'd stick with this over many of the lime or berry infused alternatives, especially when money becomes tight. You can do much worse, sadly.

I've been looking to tick this one for a while, but didn't want to take down a whole 40 by myself, a recent cookout at a friends house gave the chance to spread the pain. I'm going to give a detailed review. This was pretty much an average example of the style. It didn't have the harshness of most, and was actually almost pleasant. Most of the tasters found a slight apple taste that I didn't pick up.

This was surprisingly easy to drink and not at all unpleasant. If you're in the mood for a 40, you could do lot worse than grabbing one of these.

Clear 40oz bottle purchased for three dollars American.

Decent golden color.

Not much. Bready with a faint whiff of alcohol.

Light malts and inoffensive adjuncts. Gets more boozy as it warms.

Full bodied upfront but finishes rather dry.

It's alright. Not very rough for a malt liquor but not something you would want to drink alot of.

I did not pour this into any glass. However, i give it an average rating for appearance, due to the typical ML label design and the color of the brew.

Smell is also average, for the style, very faint corn notes. No hop presence here.

Taste is rather smooth and malty. Not at all harsh and it is rather pleasing.

Mouthfeel is kind of thick, but not offensive. Goes down easy.

This is an entry level malt, but a good one at that. I've you've only ever had Magnum, then you are in for a treat with this. Otherwise, it's basic. But good basic.
