It is an occasional offering by A-B, and only in sampler packs. Too bad, because I found it to be a decent beer and something I might buy more often if it was available by itself.

The color is darker than I expected. I tried Michelob Marzen in 2004 and do not remember the color being this dark then. Head is low and white and completely disappears before long. Aroma is subdued malt, not much in the way of hops or fermentation byproducts as far as I can tell. There is something disconcerting about the aroma, though, and I can't quite put my finger (or nose) on it. Maybe it is their typical green-apple smell mixed with the malt that is muddling things up? Hard to tell, but overall it made the aroma lean toward unpleasant.

The flavor is slightly carmel and nutty, but not much of either. Although there is some bitterness there, it is restrained and the finish feels more sweet than bitter.

In all, not a bad effort. I wonder how well it would sell with a faucet next to the Bud and Bud Light in a typical A-B bar.

Full white head on a clear dark amber golden colored beer.

Mellow week aroma like most AB products.

The taste is mild but a bit darker and a bit better than most AB beers I've tried. Seems like the used either more or better malts with this product then I'm accustomed to with this company.

A slight Bud like aftertaste without much tastes sticking around with this light bodied beer.

Pretty much the standard fare from these guys, maybe slightly better with this one.

Wow, its has been so long ago that I had this beer as part of a michelob sample pack. I liked it at the time, it was one of the first "premium beers" I ever tried. If I were to try to rate it today I would have to say that the appearance was the most marzen thing about the beer.
Smell, come on its an AB product, it had little smell a bit more than their normal lagers.
Taste, I remember it being semisweet with a little more biscuit malt. It was pleasant, but very weak for a marzen, there was none of the earthy tastes I would now expect from the style. Certainly not a great example of style, but will always hold a place for me, because without it I might still drink bud lite only.
