Dark yellow to light copper color, white head. Too much alcohol aroma mixed with corn. Ugh. Can I knock appearance points for having to go to unsavory corner liquor marts to find this?

Smoother on the palate, but still, alcohol seems omniprescient in this. Cereal like grainness along the lines of Corn Flakes, sweet like, almost fruityness comes along midbottle. Thin body keeps the alcohol around in the mouthfeel.

Not horrible, but I can't imagine a locale that doesn't have something better to drink. And if you're poor, get a better job.

Pours bright gold/honey with a generous foamy head that dies quickly.

The nose starts off malty sweet and moves into a typical pale lager character with mild hopping. I can't figure out what kind of malt or hops, though.

First taste is very sweet, moving into a very grainy body of sweet malt, then the ABV kicks in with a really boozey feel and the very mild hops round out the finish.

Medium body, characteristically smooth and a bit boozey, it leaves a sweet sticky aftertaste. For what it is, it's not bad, but still lacking in any special characteristics.

Also worthy of noting, the main label advertises this as a lager, but on the side of the can it claims the beverage to be an ale. Anyone else curious?

Bought a 12er on a whim at HEB in Round Rock for 7.29.

Dull yellow color, typical for the style...small head the disappeared in an instant.

Adjunct scent...corn malt, a bit of of the tin can itself...but a slight whiff of sweetness, hmmm...

Certainly not the worst tasting malt liquor/bmc i've ever tried. Actually picking up some sweetness, maybe sweet malt. But, even with that, a pretty bland taste. Noticing the alcohol coming through a lot more as it warms.

Very carbonated, almost stings...does not do a great job of hiding the over 8abv, but hey, I don't think it's supposed to.

I think this beer is ok for those that want a great buzz in a short amount of time without having to hold your nose while shotgunning it.

Poured a very golden transparent colour with a yellowish off-white one inch head.
Smells like cheap beer malt and metal.
This doesn't have much flavour at all. It's got a little bit of a bitter, metallic taste. It has a slight "bad beer" taste. There's some corn flavour in there, but somehow the corn flavour is far worse than that in other corny malt liquors. The aftertaste of this beer is really terrible. It tastes sort of like metal and terrible cheap cereal grains. This is far better than its primary competitor, Steel Reserve, because it doesn't taste like a fly-by-night operation at a dirty chemical plant. But it's certainly not good. It tastes like maybe they put too much effort into not making it overly sweet, but forgot to not make it gross.

Poured from a can into a stein glass.

Look - golden color, clear, with about a quarter of an inch of foam at the top, that dissipates slowly.

Smell - highly pressured, fruity smell, kinda like a cider. In fact very fruity in smell, in comparison to what style this should be.

Taste and Mouthfeel - rather bitter start that subsides to a very pale and blank sensation. Mostly, not much of a taste at all. Texture is pretty well balanced in general.

Overall - not interesting at all, but ok in taste. I tastes more than nothing, but tastes less than foul.

Every once in a (great) while, I like to slum it for a night when it comes to what beer I seek out. Since I've had decent malt liquors in the past, I figured this one deserved a shot....here goes.

Pours a nice clear suprisingly rich gold and grows a fairly large head of off white foam that did drop somewhat but remained for the whole session while leaving a more than expected amount of lace. Lively carbonation.

Smells of grassy grains and has slight hints of corn..a little metallic also.

Taste was, as seems to be usual for me, similar to the smell..prominent grainy malts, a twinge of metal although not enough to give pause, and a slight bit of heat in there too. A very clean drinking beer.

Mouthfeel was typical lager thin.

Could be a repeat buy for the warmer months to come..I'm finding that the big breweries' malt liquor offerings are better beers than their big selling mainstream name brews.

a: pours a straw yellow color with a thin white head. pretty typical. nothing shocking.

s: corny, grainy, cereal-like maltiness. no hops to speak of. alcohol is noticeably unpleasant.

t: begins to taste like a standard macro lager. you know, the usual grainy, corny malt flavor but with a pretty strong alcohol kick. not well balanced at all. i've had better malt liquour.

m&d: smooth mouthfeel; pretty bad drinkability.

good bang for you buck as far as alcohol goes (24oz can cost me $2) but I think I'd rather have a 40 of old english. i guess you get what you pay for.

A - Fairly clear, copper color with no real head other than a very light whispy foam that shows up when first poured and then immediately disappears.

S - Grainy, sweet corn aroma with the definite malt liquor sweet, vaguely tart, ethanol kind of aroma. Not as fruity as some others, but there is that slight fruitiness. Very faint bitter grassy hop possibly.

T - Similar to the nose. Typical malt liquor flavors with a little less fruitiness and a touch more alcohol. Still has that overly sweet malt liquor taste. A touch more grainy and very faint hoppiness compared to other malt liquors.

M - Medium-ish body with average carbonation. Not as sweet/sticky/cloying as you might expect, but there still is that sweet, dry, sticky feel after drinking it.

D - Faintest hop kick and the body not being overly sticky and sweet help a bit, but I still can't drink much of this.

Notes: Pretty much what you expect from a mass produced malt liquor. A bit less fruitiness than others. It taste slightly different from the others, but it is really better or worse than other similar malt liquors.

Pours a pale golden color with a thick white head and a little lacing. Smells of sweetness like creamed corn and a little grass. Tastes a lot like corn and booze mixed together like ethanol or something would. Mouthfeel is thin and watery. Drinkability is well below average.

A- Pours a dark golden color with white head that's gone in no time.

S- The smell is sweet with a bit of sourness in the background. I'm also picking a trace amounts of grains. It has a mild aroma.

T- Malty sweet with grains and a bit sour at a colder temperature. As the beer warms it becomes even sweeter with a big alcohol profile.

M- Maybe its just me but it seems thick with a high amount of carbonation.

D/N- I think a 24oz can will be enough. I guess this beer is ok. A friend of mine left a can at my house. I wouldn't buy it unless all I had in my wallet was 1.49.

My roommate brought this to me. What a guy! Poured into a pint glass and reluctantly consumed. The body pours a transparent yellow body with lots of visible carbonation and a small fizzy white head. The aroma is grainy, kind of wheaty and a bid medicinal. Something about a cough syrup aroma that doesn't sit well with me in beer. The taste and the smell may as well just be one in the same. Just grainy and medicinal. Bleh. This is kind of light and over carbonated and really boozy in the mouth. My roommate brought this to me and called it "the cheapest swill on the market." It's clear why. However, it does go down pretty easy, just as long as you close your eyes and open your gullet.

A - Dark orange color

S - Pretty bad. Heavy alcohol smell. Doesn't really smell like any type of beer.

T - Gross. this is not good. The alcohol overpowers any flavor that might be there. It's a little fruity but that's about all that comes through.

M - Ehh OK. Very thin, bubbly similar to an energy drink.

D - Almost none. This isn't even good to drink if you're looking to get hammered despite the high alcohol content. It takes forever to choke this down.

I don't recommend this at all.

Poured a 24 ounce can into an imperial pint glass.

This brew pours with a decent head that not surprisingly, quickly dissipates. That said, it's an inexpensive malt liquor, so what do you expect?

Although my experience with malt liquors is very limited, it's strange because trying out a few of them is almost like a morbid curiosity for a beer geek. Everybody knows they are pretty much supposed to be bad tasting brews that are noting more than a cheap, easy way to get intoxicated.

All of that aside, every style of beer must be reviewed for what it is and more importantly, compared to others within it. As stated above, I have limited experience with malt liquors, but based on the taste, this one isn't bad at all. There actually is some malt taste there, along with some white grape like fruitiness, corn, and a mild hop bite to balance out the sting of alcohol which is universal for the style, especially considering this one is >8% ABV. There is little aftertaste, and this one actually doesn't leave a lingering sting of alcohol that is unbearable in some malt liquors.

I am guessing at BA, we are all pretty much beer lovers who are supposed to appreciate beer because of the taste. I don't make a regular habit of drinking this stuff, but I am not going to lie---there is a time and a place for drinking a cheap, very high ABV, no-brainer brew that will make you feel good and fuzzy inside, and is ridiculously cheap. Honestly, of all the AB products, I actually consider this to be one of the best ones----decent taste (none of that terrible sour rice flavor of Budweiser), cheap price, great buzz, and overall easy drinking.

t: sweet corn malts lightly mask the booze

m: light bodied beer with a lot of carbonation

overall, you get what you pay for. if youre looking to get a buzz, this is fast and cheap. If youre looking for taste I would recommend leaving this one at the store

Anheuser Busch Hurricane High Gravity Lager...
8.1 % alcohol/volume. Poured from a 16oz can into a pint glass.

A- Eye catching deep yellow almost golden colored fluid with nice one inch head that falls to a pretty decent froth and ring around the glass. Leaves little to none lacing.

S- Heavy hints of corn straw and alcohol esters are upfronts. Light sweet malts in the back of the nose.

T-M- Taste is of strong grainy alcohol, slick sweet malts with a slight yeasty edge. Flavors are melded into a boozy sweet malted beer. Mouthfeel is decent with the strength of this beer smooth and slick with one hell of a bite from the alcohol.

D- For a malt liquor not to bad but for only light drinking occasions.

Poured from a 24-ounce can into a half-liter beer glass.

Appearance: Darker than straw, lighter than gold. Fizzy head which leaves moderate lacing as it recedes. Active carbonation.

Smell: Light sweetness with a semi-high alcohol content. Very wheaty with some peach/apricot tones. Aside from the fusel alcohol, it could nearly be a Belgian trippel or quadrupel.

Taste/Mouthfeel/Drinkability: Really not that bad for a malt liquor. Only a touch less drinkable than Bud Ice. Mild carbonation reveals intense alcohol combined with a light maltiness. This brew is entirely average as far as the latter three categories are concerned.

Not too terrible. This was my divorce beer, but it's been a while since I re-tried it (as a refined drinker). Not too disappointed, it's worth the $1.09 it costs.

Okay, I honestly thought these reviews were a little overdramatic...but oh was I wrong; so so wrong.

Poured from a 24oz can into my Paulaner mug (hah!)

A - A bit darker than your typical straw yellow macro. Nice fluffy head that dissipates faster than you can count to 3.

S - Like it was trying to be a macro beer but something went horribly wrong and a sour smell emerged (as if that wasn't enough).

T - Alright...this is unlike any beer i've ever tried. Let's say you take a can of macro beer, pour a bunch of water in it to water it down even more, then add some pure grain alcohol to it. Gah, i'm trying to type this description out while forcing this shit down. The alcohol bitterness just won't go away.

M - Despite the description I gave for the taste, it's not too watery.

D - I wish there was a rating below 1.0 because it needs it. It feels like i'm complimenting it by giving it that rating. You're going to need to be drunk off your ass before you drink any of this.

No Hurricane used to be my favorite when is was younger. I used to grab a 40 of it and have a good time. Unitl i tried other beers and realized what i was drinking. This stuff is strong man infact maybe a little to strong at 8.10 abv. But the good thing about this beer is that it is very cheap and if your ever running low on cash and want to get drunk QUICK go and grab a High Gravity.

quantity not quality.

A- pours a dark golden "dehydrated pee in the morn. after drinking all night" color w/ a thick white head which quickly dissaptes leaving little lace in my pilsner glass

S- typical macro nose, vinous rice wine and alcohol

T- think BL+ a shot of cheap vodka, then throw in an ice cube

M- pretty thick for a macro malt liquor, plenty of co2 as well

D- prob. the most alcohol you can get for 5 quarters, wish i could give it a 0, esp. as it warms, if you're hard up enough to drink this do yourself a favor, dig up the other 3 quarters and get youself a vicodin

Can poured into a pilsner glass. Pours a deep dark gold with a thick white head on top. Good sticky lace left behind. Scents of cheap husk, dry grains, and lemon. The body is pretty full for the style and brewer. Pretty crisp as well. Flavors of heavy grains, corn, honey, light booze. Bitterness is low. This wasn't all that bad. Pretty good beer for campfires, tailgates, cookouts, etc. When cheap beer is in need, it's Hurricane indeed.

Clear, pale yellow body. Massive white puffy head; but then it went away. Big ol' bubbles rising within the glass - almost champagne-like.

Meh... Very bready and stale with the malt. Quite noticeable alcohol mixed with some funky cooked veggies (seems to be a reoccurring theme with these cheap high gravities). Absolutely no hops, just moldy bread in the nose and finish.

On par with the aroma, only sweeter. Lots of malty sweetness and stale astringent notes. Quite bitter in the finish with veggie flavors all over the place. There is a funky yeast taste that seems to be riding on the back of the booziness. No hops. Dry/bitter aftertaste.

Nope. Not enjoyable. No balance. No complexity. And I think I tasted more alcohol than there actually was in the beer; and that's saying something considering the abv.
Would pair horribly with everything.

this actually looks better than the original

A: poured a small amount for looks, a decient finger of soft drink like head which actually fell to a thin layer, and laced on the glass!
S: slightly sweet corn, actually a bit of malt and a bit of citrus hop.
T: better from the can than from a glass. lightly sweet corn and malt, grainy. a touch of alcohol.
M/D: thick carbonated water. drinks better than others ive had so far, but it could be the fact that its the first cold drink after work.

The best malt liquor I have had. Despite its high ABV, it's better tasting than many other A-B products I have sampled. And it's cheap. Give it a shot. See what you think. It may not suit you. But if so, ask: Is it really worse than some other (non-malt) macros you have drunk recently? If not, why shouldn't you keep it in your (occasional) rotation?

Thanks to blutt59 for sharing this canned greatness.

The beer pours a yellow color with a white head. The aroma is strong corn. No doubt what this beer is brewed with. The flavor is very sweet corn with the slightest hint of orange citrus. Light mouthfeel and medium carbonation. For a macro-produced malt liquor this is not terrible, but compared to regular beers, this is one to avoid.

24 oz can without a born on date, odd for an AB product. Pours a dark gold color with a frothy white foam that fades pretty slow for a ML. Leaves some lacing as well.

Nose is frighteningly sweet corn syrup and tropical, solvent alcohols. Candied yams and honey are present as well. Bold, but I am not exactly looking forward to the taste of this one...

Sweet, but not as much as I had feared and the alcohol is a bit more tame...still looms large, but not unbearable. Fruity alcohol and the honeyed adjuncts with zero hop presence make for an interesting beverage indeed. The mouthfeel is actually pretty creamy and full bodied for a malt licka. Not bad, but is far from my favorite version of the style. Many of the "High Gravity" offerings are tough to choke down, unsurprisingly.
