I was really in the mood for a pumpkin ale yesterday so I headed out to my local and picked up a six-pack of this beer with a slight air of apprehension. I'll admit, as will most beer fans that I have a bias against AB, for me, I can't even appreciate their beer on a refreshment level, so there is my slant. BUT I tried this beer none the less and actually enjoyed it!
A-Good deep copper maybe slightly toward amber with a nice fluffy head that retained for most of the pint.
S-Not direct hit of spice, more like the warm, comforting smell of pumpkin pie being baked.
T-Once again, no direct hit of spice and overwhelming pumpkin flavour. Very malty with an aftertaste of pumpkin and the relative spices.
MF-Perhaps a bit thin, but this ads to the drinkability. Some of the other pumpkin ales that I have had have been too heavy and think, almost syrup-like in their cloying sweetness. This feels like a well balanced and universally appealing ale as it were.
D-As the Fall progresses I will most likely enjoy another six-pack of this beer, seems like a good, festive choice that is easy to enjoy with food (not overwhelming) and while enjoying the season's activities.
