Pours a dark brown with ruby hues; a light tan head builds up and slowly fizzes down to a film.
Bitter sweet chocolate, coffee and caramel come through on the nose. It's defiantly made with roasted malts, but that's about it.
Much of the same can be said about the flavor. Dark chocolate, hints of caramel, lighter notes of coffee. Not complex, and I know it's certainly made with roasted malt, but it falls pretty flat. Not bad, just a little bland and metallic... The aftertaste is bitter (harsh), but actual hop flavour/aroma is just about non existent.
I'm certainly being objective with this review, but there's really not much here. Fairly subtle aromas and flavours and nothing really stands out...
Light to medium body, but the mouth feel is a bit powdery; easy enough to drink though. A "meh" offering from AB, and while I really do appreciate what they're doing, this a below average porter.
