Wow, Anheuser-Busch brewed a decent beer! Congrats guys, that is really an accomplishment. I mean I was sort of disappointed to see that the biggest brewery in the US couldn't brew anything better than I did on my first random stab in the dark with a homebrew kit.

A - This beer is reddish-brown in color with a small white head, lots of bubbles, and actually some lacing.

S - Aroma is banana, clove, wheat, and caramel.

T - Caramel malt, banana, clove, wheat, and a little bit of yeast. Not too complex, but good. Really in disbelief that A-B brewed this.

M - Body and carbonation are medium. Palate just a tad bit watery.

D - Drinkability high. Overall this is not bad at all.

I'll have you know, the only reason I chose to do a review on this particular beer is because I was so blown away by how much better it tastes than I expected. Being Michelob, I didn't have too high of hopes - Michelob is better than most of those everyday brews, but you know what I'm saying.

A - Pours a dark reddish brown color - not very appetizing. Zero head, no lacing. But that's ok...for me. The overall look kind of reminds me of the Mexican soda drink called "Jarritos", particularly the Tamarind flavor. (I lived in Mexico as a young child and so I knew all about those things in Mexico...so good.)

S - I'm picking up on the malts, a little carmely note, wheat. Smells really bready sweet.

T - Up front I'm getting some malty carmels and wheat - typical wheat beer, except, and I like this, it's not overly tangy like most Wheat beers. Refreshing. I really should have drank this after mowing the lawn instead of before. But again, I was kind of expecting this to be a let down, so I wanted to get this one over with so I could enjoy what I've got left in the fridge. It's very watery, but that goes along with the refreshingly smooth overall taste of it.

O - I like it. It is good to see that it received a B here on BA. I like that, but I think it could be even a B+ or even A-. That's just me, though.
Definitely won't be the last Dunkelweisse I drink in the future. If I see this on the Beer menu at a restaurant, I might just order it...as long as I can enjoy enough rare beers on the menu.

The adventure continues...

Michelob Dunkel Weisse has a medium, creamy, beige head and a clear, copper color with lots of bubbles streaming up and nice lacing. The swirl & pour did not cloud it up, surprisingly. The aroma is strong on banana and light on wheat and clove. Taste is banana, some wheat, and a wonderful hop spice. Hops show up as well, and this really gives it a tasty balance. Lots of ticklish carbonation with this, and there’s also a smokey aspect. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Michelob Dunkel Weiss finishes clean, refreshing, and super-drinkable. Too bad it’s gone, because it’s really outstanding.

A- Color of the beer is almost the same color on the label of the bottle. Bottle tells you to swirl the last bit and then pour it all into the glass. This is very important. releases all the yeasts and sediment from the bottom of the bottle. Gives it a hazy cloudiness. Head doesn't stick around that long but it's ok.

S- Yeast, bananas, some cloves and maybe a touch of malts

T- there a banana and fruit like flavor with the yeast of course but the spice comes in on the end of the finish.

M- has a thickness to it. feels like a porter to me but looks like an ale.

O- Has a pretty good all around flavor. Well balanced and pretty tasty.

This was a little bit surprising to me. I liked the fact the Michelob tried appealing to the craft beer nuts out there with their attempts of putting these types of beers out. The Dunkelweizen is probably the best of the series. Its got a muddy brown color with a pretty nice size head in it. The aromas of wheat and clove billow from the foam. The taste is a little light but it still has enough to stand out. It's also got some earth and dark fruity flavors in there too.

Oh the Michelob Dunkel, probably their best offering. This beer pours a pretty thick dark hazelnut brown with a light cream colored head which laced the glass. The aromas are not too shabby for the style. It's a ton of banana bread and spice. The yeast is out of this world. The taste too, for the style, pretty solid. It's a lot of banana bread, super yeasty, with good spice. This beer drinks very, very thick. It's too thick. After two of these I feel like I ate two loaves of banana bread. It's a little over the top. For the style though, this isn't too shabby.

from notes, this one was brought up to the cabin by my father in law in a mixed 12 pack of michelob brews. served cold and me and my brother in law kicked these back on the deck on night.

pours out a nice ruddy brown color with an off white head that seemed to really come through quite nicely before backing off and leaving the top bare a bit too soon. aroma is largely dominated by caramel with light hints hops, touches of dark chocolate and some odd spice that thankfully was not in the taste. dominant caramel and roasted malts really hit the spot and the overall profile seemed to be quite well rounded with a creamy smooth finish that was lightly dried out by lingering and tight hop notes.

overall a very decent offering and probably the best of the night. i really liked what they did with this one.

A- Murky brown like muddy water, rocky foamy head that falls quickly but leaves descent lace.

S- Roasted malts, fruit, spice, clove, banana

T- Bananas and cloves, hint of chocolate, some citrusy notes like tart lemon, wheat, almond, and a hint of chocolate. Pretty complex considering it is a macro. A lot gets lost, however, in the middle where it is murky in a watered down way.

M- Crisp, refreshing, thin and watery

D- Very easy to drink, but lacking body and watered down.

When poured the color was a hazy medium tan with very little foam that quickly disapated. The smell of roasted yeasty malts, fruits and spice filled the nose with a pleasant aroma. The taste was of roasted yeasty malts, banana, cloves and liquid bread. A little tart, but I will say that the flavors stay on the palate for quiet awhile.
As it got warmer in the glass, the more flavors I could taste. The warmer the Dunkelweisse, the more the flavors. Very good Dunelweizen.

Bought a 6er of this on the advice of a Macro drinker, so needless to say I was quite skeptical.

A: Huge rocky head, bright white. Sticks around a good while. lacing is decent too. Body is brown and murky.

S: The usual suspects are present here of course. Banana and clove. some apple and lemon. Quite good. nothing off here.

T: Much more fruit presence in the taste. Some bubblegum on the finish, and almondy middle. Something about the finish isnt quite right, but cant put my finger on it.

M: Crisp and refreshing. A little sticky however, as I've experienced with wheats in the past.

D: Although this is a good tasting wheat, which really no off flavors or mouth feel characteristics, after drinking a few of these one night I found it to be rather filling.

Okay, the infamous Dunkel Weisse from AB...

Quick forming and quick dissipating head, which is light tan in color. The body is dark copper in color with slight haze. Not really much in the way of a real weisse beer.

The aroma is bready, with a slight hint of clove and some fruitiness.

It starts out really quickly with an over ripe banana flavor, but is quickly cut by a salty and metallic flavor like with some tartness.

Thin in the mouthfeel and kind of boring. This brew was touted as a decent interpretation by some, but I disagree.

Had a bottle of this with a buddy of mine last night. Great pour and appearance but everything else was terrible. This must have been a bad batch because the yeast was stuck to the side in a big clump and was as black as night. Every single bottle was this way. Horrible taste and smell. I'll need to try another in the future that isn't tainted.

When pouring this beer it pours out a nice dark color that has a decent head with some lacing and decent retention. The smell is of a banana and cloves. When drinking this beer I taste some bananas and cloves with a hint of chocolate and some wheat. This beer has a nice smooth medium mouthfeel and is very drinkable. I would highly recommend this beer for anyone that loves a good beer.

Appearance - This is a nice, dingy brown in color just like it should be but the head is non-existent.

Smell - There's actually some pretty good yeast and toast in this nose. It's smooth, well-balanced, and very much in line with the style.

Taste - The yeast and toast from the nose fail to show up from the taste as they are trounced by the strangest flavor I have ever encountered in a DW. It's a putrid sweetness like maybe a rotten lemon.

Mouthfeel - This was an epic failure. The carbs are like a cheap lager instead of that full and fluffy character you expect from the style.

Sinkability - This didn't taste anything at all like a DW.

A - Amber color, partially opaque, and little head to speak of.

S - Banana, esters, caramel malt.

T - Much sweeter than expected. A little too sweet upfront as the banana flavor is really strong. However, the aftertaste is more roasty and helps to balance things out.

M - Carbonation is medium but this feels watery.

D - A like the aftertaste quite a bit but the initial sweetness is a little hard to take. I can appreciate the effort but just a little off the mark.

Smell is somewhat sweet...banana comes to mind. Certainly some cloves there as well. A little thin.

Taste has a decent banana ester sweetness to it leading off...along with a surprisingly good clove presence. Maybe I was just being discriminatory towards the brewer, but I didn't expect it to come through so much. Really, it tastes a lot like a hefeweizen. The finish is pretty thin and watery though, which leaves a bit to be desired. The cloves definitely hang on in the mouth for a while in the aftertaste. The beer starts well and basically doesn't finish as well as I'd have hoped.

But all in all, it's a very quaffable beer. It may not have all the character that the top craft beers have, but it has all the drinkability.

Served 55 degrees poured to pint glass.

Bottle opens with a pretty pleasing pop. Poured well with slight sedimentation at the bottom and decent head that dissolved after about 2 minutes. At this point I was getting quite excited at the prospect of a real beer from a big brewer. Smell was generally positive with an unidentifiable odd characteristic underneath.

Taste begins slightly sweet turning quickly to a rather pleasant smoky flavor combined with a rather unfortunate hops blend. The flavor then collapses into what I can only describe as a chemically burnt mess.

A- dark amber brown, very little head retention

S-bananas, chocolate, and wheat

T- can definitely taste the banana cloves, can pick up a trace of chocolate. Kind of has an alcohol taste to it, could be better balanced.

Could easily throw a few of these back, if it weren't for the fact that something just seems off about this beer. Overall, its not bad, its just not well balanced.

Pours slightly hazy amber-brown color with off-white head. Nose is light, but has some banana and brown bread notes. On the palate it comes across as very light bodied, almost watery, but nonetheless has a resemblance of the traditional dunkelweizen flavors. Also more wheaty sweetness is noted. Finishes thin and a bit watered down without a lot of flavors. Thanks to Herb for the bottle.

A - Murky brown, like an undissolved glass of iced tea mix; light tan head dissipates very quickly with very little lacing; good carbonation

S - Sweet, spicy caramel malt with strong banana & clove notes present; aroma more than makes up for the appearance

T - Sweet caramel malt with strong banana & wheat flavors; some spice & other fruits present as well; goes down smooth with minimal hop presence

M - Medium body; slightly chewy; good carbonation

D - Nice aroma, nice taste, goes down smooth; not really a session beer, but a 6pk in one sitting is an easily achievable goal

Poured a murky medium amber hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was decent retention and lacing.

The smell featured caramel and a pumpernickel breadiness. Some diacytl to the nose.

The taste was consisted of round toasted malts, caramel and a serious brown bread element. Some diacytl at the finish.

The mouthfeel was a touch light for the style.

Overall a very nice example of the style. One of AB's finest offerings.

A: Hazy, dark cloudy amber verging on brown. Decent head, but not much lacing.

S: Dark wheat beer nose. Faintly generic German wheat beer notes. Grainy sweetness and - a bit oddly - some citrus.

T: Citrus goes away in the taste and is replaced by a fruity banana & bubble gum German wheat beer base with somewhat strongly sweet dark caramel malty notes.

M: Pretty carbed up, almost too much. Medium body with some stickiness.

D: A touch heavy on the CO2, but good overall. Refreshing enough for a summer day, but also malty and robust enough for a fall evening.

I found this single 12oz brown bottle at the Binny's in Glen Ellyn, IL for $1.29. The born on date is printed on the neck label. Mine is dated 2/25/1O, so this bottle is about 5 months old.

The beer poured a hazy medium brown color and made a 3 finger tan head when poured into my weizen glass. Head retention was good and the beer left a decent amount of lacing. The beer showed off a lighter caramel color when held to the light.

The beer had the traditional banana/clove aroma associated with the style with some caramel malt and a whiff of alcohol underneath.

The taste is heavy on banana/clove flavor - especially the banana, but it is more like an unripened green banana rather than a ripened yellow one, giving the beer a bit of a funky tart and sour taste. There is also some sweet caramel, chocolate, and wheat flavors, but not much hop presence to help balance it out.

Smooth, medium bodied brew, but severely undercarbonated leaving it almost flat.

It's OK, but not one of my favorite dunkel weizens.
