Served on-tap at the Playwright in New Haven, Conn.
A: Poured a hazy dark gold/orange amber color with a one finger head of frothy foam which left some lacing until halfway through the brew.
S: Smell is a tad grainy, with some citrus fruit, wheaty banana esters and no real hop presence.
T: Taste is sweet and dry, which can be characteristic of a wheat ale, but this is too sweet and caramel-like for the drying effect. There is some sweet fruity candy taste that I can't put my finger on.
M: Mouthfeel is heavier than I'd like for a wheat ale most likely being marketed for summer.
D: It's not all that bad, but I'd find it hard to stick with as the lackluster taste and befuddling chemistry turn me off a bit. Certainly sessionable to some, I'd venture.
I really wish Anheuser would stop trying to trick the beer consuming public with gimmicky and "microbrewish" looking labels and taps. I tried it because it looked new, but I'll be wiser in the future. Hey AB, what happened to In Heat Summer Wheat? New Halloween, new costume, I guess.
