Poured intoa pint glass.

It's yellow with a rim of white lace. Not a lot of carbonation.

It doesn't really smell like anything, water?

The first taste was more flavorful than I expected, but after that it was rather flavorless.

It's watery and crisp, but the fizziness disappears immediately.

If the beer world is slowly seeing the emergence of craft beer into a dominant force, maybe AB thinks there's a shift in the opposite direction as well, ultra light beers. I've had much worse products than this one, but artistically this beer is like Thomas Kincaid. This may be good business for AB and macro brewers, but it is not driven from a deep and abiding love for beer.

Pours golden with a white head that becomes a white patch - Lacing sticks. Decent appearance for the style.

The smell is of mild grain - maybe...not much of anything in aroma, though. Clean, but vacant.

The taste is cardboard-ish with tonic water - a bit of sweetness. Extremely bland, even for a very light "beer".

The feel is all fizz.

This is not good, even for a macro light lager. Why bother... might as well drink tonic water...in fact, I probably would prefer to, would be less cardboardy.

I have one of these left sitting lonely at the back of the fridge. Thought I'd take time to give it a fair shot.

Appearance (N/A) - poured into glass. One small ring of lacing that's almost invisible. It disappears into a tiny bubbled carbonation circle. As far as beer is concerned, this one fails at appearance. But, considering most aren't going to be pouring this into a pint glass (and I don't know who in their right mind would serve this on tap, I'm going to give it an N/A score.

Smell (1.5) - Stale cornbread, malts, and mildewy barn grain. Some artificial adjunct dextrin, as well. Bouquet is very weak.

Taste (2) - Very cornbready. Stale malt and corn husks. It's dry.

Mouthfeel (2) - Very fizzy. Refreshing though. Easy to drink if you're guzzling it down for hydration.

Overall (1.87) - Bud 55 is truly a light beer cut in half. 2.4% ABV, 55 calories. As a beer it is not a shining example. For a quick refresher or something light with lunch, it goes well. It's guaranteed to not offend, and it drinks easy. It has its place, although it's not as good as Miller 64.

Appearance: Clear medium golden in color, with a moderate, persistent white head, good patchy lacing, and an abundance of small fast-rising bubbles.

Aroma: Dusty, with mineral notes, and a faint caramel presence. There seems to be a slight herbal hop presence.

Taste: Opens with slightly toasted caramel malt, as the taste progresses, a mild vegetable note appears, somewhat like cooked corn. Finishes with a lingering graininess, somewhat like unsalted, air-popped popcorn kernels.

Mouth feel: Rather thin, with aggressive, slightly stinging carbonation.

Drinkability/notes: I am not trying to be excessively critical, but at fifty-five calories, and an ABV of 4.8 percent, I wonder how different this would be from a "normal" 110 calorie, 5.0% ABV lager cut with fifty percent carbonated mineral water.

Presentation: Packaged in a twelve-ounce aluminum can, served in a standard Pilsener glass.

Poured into my Stella glass for maximum enjoyment.

A - Appears as ginger ale with a foamy one finger head that quickly dissipates. Clear and straw colored with very apparent over-carbonation.

S - Smells like chalk, tin, and cheap booze.

T - Completely bland and almost tasteless. It's as if they put cornflakes into a bowl of water and sprinkled dried paint chips in. Grainy aftertaste.

M - Very light but the carbonation is harsh. Not enjoyable.

D - I guess you could session this is you wanted. I would take almost any other light beer over it, though.

Had this today at the brewery after the tour.

Pours a familiar clear golden color and was presented with no head, although a bright white foam circled the edges of the glass.

The aroma was pathetic. There was basically nothing there. Very bland, but a bit of malt, and slightly sweet.

The taste was even worse. There was just nothing to it. With a lot of Macro beers there is at least a bad taste, this has no taste. I compare it to carbonated water. My fiancee said it's like when the fountain soda machine runs out of syrup.

Mouthfeel is thin, on the watery side with a high level carbonation using a very fine tingley bubble.

Drinkability depends how you look at it. The sessionability is ridiculous so in that regard yes it's drinkable. On the other han I like to consider the flavor profile and whether it brings me back for another sip. In that regard, this is easily the most boring beer I've ever had. I've found more enjoyment and flavor in nonalcoholic beer. Just really a bad gimic beer and it's sad to think that this will pass as beer to the masses.

12 oz bottle poured into an American Tumbler Pint. Born on 08OCT09.

A - Pours a decently golden yellow color. Clear and effervescent, the white head disappears instantly. I expected it to be almost clear in color.

S - An initial burst of sulfery skunky aroma comes out. At this point I'd just stop but I'm never going to buy this beer again, so let's go. It disappears in favor of an insanely light rice aroma. Almost indistinguishable as a beer aroma-wise.

T - A bit sulfury and very watery. Almost no real beer flavor. Actually, if the skunked flavor wasn't there, there would be no flavor. haha.

M - Thin, watery, and sharply carbonated. As close to water as you'll get. In fact, have a Perrier instead.

D - Why would you ever want this? A pointless beer geared to guilt-filled individuals who lead horrible lives if their beer drinking comes to this...
At less than 4% you'd be bloated from drinking this before even feeling a slight buzz, but I suppose, as water, it's drinkable.

Select 55 has a thick, yet quickly dissipating head and a clear, bubbly, yellow-golden appearance. The aroma is very slight, but some sweet graininess is picked up. Taste is quite dull and mineral water like. A little grain and not much more is detected. The overriding taste is tap water. Mouthfeel is super-light and watery, and the finish of Select 55 is like water finishes. So dull! Overall, this is poor, and I advise you to stay away.

A - Urine. Seriously, it looks like a glass of urine. It leaves a decent lacing on the glass but, yeah, so does urine.

S - Ever strain the water out of a can of corn? It's like a shot of that dumped into a gallon of distilled water.

T - What taste? Seriously, there's nothing. At least with tap water I taste flouride and metal. Know how the Marlboro Man welcomes you to flavor country? This beer gets you kicked the hell out into, like, Delaware. This is the Dane Cook of light beers.

M - Frothy and unpleasant, like a worn-out whore. Alka-Seltzerish.

D - If drinkability is characteristic of a beer's ease of consumption, sho' nuff. If I was struck blind, and asked someone for a glass of water, they could fool me with this. Thought I might accuse them of having peed in my glass.

Select 55 hits the glass with a fizzy, over-carbonated pour with lots of aggression and anger. Straw in color, the beer is crystal clear. The carbonation fuels a light lace of foam and there's actually a bit of lacing. The appearance is on par for most German Helles.

Faint aroma of grain.... and that's about it to the nose. A quick mention of sulfurs, apple, and corn could make the notes on aroma a bit more thorough but really, it's a stretch.

More grain in the flavor, accompanied by a harsh minerally taste that kills any of the lighter malt compounds. A light corn flavored sweetness emerges in the finish and aftertaste. Metallic and grainy.

The thin mouthfeel and over carbonation gives a harsh carbonic bite that nearly stings the tongue. The beer feels (and tastes) a lot like Alka-Seltzer.

I was hoping to find a clean beer that was void of both meaningful flavor and flaws. Looks like I was right about the meaningful flavor omition....

Crystal clear and a darker yellow (almost gold) than I expected. A fizzy white cap disappeared shortly after the pour, leaving nothing on the sides of the glass. Light grainy aroma, faint apple, slightly vegetal - not much to talk about really. Low bitterness, minerals, cereal grains, metallic and watery finish. Thin bodied, sharp carbonation, super dry. Sort of tastes like carbonated water with a little bit of flavour added. Not much point here, as I expected - time to move along.
