Notes/Commercial Description:
Raspberry Wheat delivers the same smooth taste of Shock Top, with a hint of raspberry flavor. This traditional Belgian-style wheat ale is brewed with essence of wild raspberry and hand-selected hops. It’s this combination that gives it its crisp and distinctive Shock Top taste, with its own flavorful twist. This unfiltered ale has a light-golden color and a smooth finish, and if you’re curious, it technically doesn’t, not count toward your daily fruit intake.

This one was a gift to my wife from a friendly neighborhood A-B distributor. She didn't want it, so I might as well try it (for science). Poured from the bottle, this one has a slightly hazy apple-juice-golden-yellow color and a modest, fizzy, cream-colored head that quickly evaporates to almost nothing. The aroma of raspberry juice permeates the area after this pour. The fragrant light fruitiness smells like a bottled fruit juice that contains enough real juice that you wouldn't be ashamed to give to your kids (occasionally).

Unfortunately, the flavor goes the other direction. The fruity sweetness again dominates, and the only thing that reminds that this is beer is a dull, yeasty earthiness. In contrast to the aroma, the fruit juice flavor starts to become more and more unpleasantly artificial with each sip. The mouthfeel tries to help, with a light, smooth body and only a mildly tingly carbonation. In the end, however, this just doesn't taste like beer. Light and very fruity, it's more of a fruit juice spritzer than a beer. It's actually somewhat pleasant when viewed from that point of view, though, making it a potentially fine summery change-of-pace or a first stepping stone towards beer for a wine cooler drinker.

Had this in an outlet mall bar with my wife, while she was on a shopping break. Light amber color, small head with no real lacing. Head disappeared fast. Smell was fragrant and strong of raspberries - taste was similar, but less fruity. More along my wife's taste than mine, but choices were limited...
