I know ..I know it's from AB so who cares...well I do. This is a fine backyard hot summer kind of lager. I have fond memories of this being known as 'The good stuff ' back in the late 1970's when we were deciding what to bring for a day out water skiing on the Connecticut River in Charlestown NH. The taste any good beer revisited will serve as a reminder of the good times enjoyed with family and friends.

After finding out that they were retiring this, my Fiancee found a case of this and picked it up for me as a last hurrah. I also need to remind people that this was reformulated in 2007 as an all malt beer. There is no rice, there is no corn. This was my go to beer in my younger years, so I figured I would finally give it a rating!

L: Pours a clear golden that forms a rocky, 2 finger, white head that dissipates quickly into a thin, white ring. Little to no lacing.

S: Smells of lightly sweet, yeasty malt bread with mild spicy and floral noble hops to finish. Smells pleasant.

T: The flavors follow the nose to a T. Lightly sweet, yeasty malt bread forward with the noble hops to finish and cleanse the palate.

F: Medium bodied, ample carbonation, smooth and refreshing.

O: In no way does this beer deserve a 64. Beer snobs will ruin a good thing as long as AB is attached to it. Is it top tier amazing? No, but it sure is pretty good and was one of the only macro all-malt beers out there at the price. And now it is gone. I will savor this last 12 pack and remember the good times I had enjoying this lager alongside good friends. RIP, Michelob Original Lager.

Poured a clear golden yellow color with a light white head. It had as a very mild flavor that is not too bad. A little too much carbonation but overall, it's a refreshing summer beer for those hot and humid days.

Sampled multiple times from 1981 onwards. A typical commercial American pale lager, quite refreshing and better than it’s reputation, after all. Contains some rice. Tasted good in the heat of a Californian summer, but when I had it again in Norway, the magic was gone.

Pours a clear golden straw color. The head is two fingers high and white in shade; retention is pretty damn poor. The aroma offers a nice (yet subtle) hit of grassy hops, backed by the sweet malt backbone. Simple, yet effective. It seems to taste a little sweeter than the nose indicated, but only just a little bit. There's a touch of darker malt character to this beyond the classic white bread and cracker notes coming from pale malts; touches of toasted bread and nut comes through. The finish has enough hoppiness to cleanse the palate, no more and no less. It also seems to be a little buttery on the back end, maybe even a touch grainy. This is one of the few beers I've sampled that I can truly call bone dry. It manages this without being ridiculously over-carbonated. The dryness helps counteract the decently full body, though it does seem slightly astringent at times. Look, I know it's a 64, and that sucks. And while I definitely wanted a little more from this, it's not really BAD. It just isn't all that great. But hey, it's cheap, and better than Budweiser (and FAR better than Michelob Ultra). In the right place and right time, that's all that matters. There are other cheaper lagers I'd take over this, but it'll get the job done in a pinch.

Poured into a pilsner glass

L; 3.25. Nice coloration but the carbonation leaves much to be desired. Thin head.
S: 3.75. Barley. Spicy German hops. Light on adjuncts, Corn.
T: 3. Quite malty. Barley. Corn. Light bitterness from hops.
F: 3.25. Medium bodied. A bit heavy for a lager.
O: 3.25. This is a go-to. Not too expensive and the quality is pretty good. One of the better American lagers.

Found some 6 packs of 12 oz bottles with twist offs
The pour revealed a crystal clear american lager whaddaya know. Head isnt all that fine and dissapeared as quick as it was poured. Visually cant differentiate between any other macros, except that its darker than light beers.

The smell has a strong corn aroma but hops do shine through unlike other macros which is a nice surprise. My sense of smell still isnt 100% here though. Almost smells like a grainy pils.

Flavor is even better than the smell. Bitterness from noble hops is obvious and appreciated with much of the grain covered by them while cold. Surprisingly dry for a macro full flavor. Quite nice for when you dont want something heavy but also not grossly sweet and grainy, but also dont want to shell out for a german import.

Feel is actually very refreshing the strong carbonation combines with the bitterness of the hops to create a refreshing experience with just enough grain sweetness to balance it out but not weigh it down.

Overall, one of the best cheap beers ice had, idk why irs rated so low here, for the style and brewery it's actually quite good. If you see it and havent tried it but like lagers, I'd pick it up, maybe if enough people buy it we can give it a new lease on life.

A vigorous pour produces a tightly packed white head that quickly recedes to nothingness, no lacing is left on the glass. Some bubbles rise from the bottom of the glass, but otherwise it looks like apple juice. The smell is of malts with some bittering hops. The taste is ok, there are no off flavors and the balance of malt and hops produces a decent bitterness that's correct for the style and the beer, but it's nothing special. The mouthfeel is not good, there is a prickly carbonation that can be a bit much especially if you have more than one.
