Our Lemon Shandy is a unique take on the classic Shandy that is distinctly Shock Top.

Brewed with two row and six row malted barley and five different types of hops, this Belgian-Style Wheat Ale is then combined with citrus peels, coriander, natural lemonade flavor and a hint of sugar for a subtle sweetness. The end result is an incredibly refreshing, crisp and smooth beer that hits the spot.

Poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: Opaque light gold, similar to lemonade. Thin head that quickly disappears.

Smell: Not much, the smell is lost.

Taste: Saves the beer a bit. Sweet, lemonade. Not much "beer".

Mouthfeel: Smooth, well carbonated.

Overall: I am a fan of Shandys and this one fits the mold. Smooth and sweet. But not much "beer" and almost no aroma.

473 mL can picked up at TBS; served well-chilled. It seems that InBev has seen fit to unleash the deluge of Shock Top varieties into Ontario - as far as I know, only the flagship witbier was available in this province until quite recently.

Pours a pale, cloudy golden-yellow colour, topped at first with over two fingers of frothy white head. It disappears steadily over the course of the next two minutes, leaving behind a fine coat of lace and a thin, soapy cap. Looks fine, with a mild, muted aroma of lemonade, and not much else. Not offensive, but not even slightly interesting.

Tastes a little better - this is a passable, if uninteresting shandy. Sugary, with some lemon tartness and light orangepeel and pale, wheaty malt sweetness. Tangy, somewhat tart finish that doesn't linger long. No sign of coriander. Light-bodied, with fizzy carbonation appropriate for the style. Nothing about this really stands out, but in hot weather after some hard work, I could see myself opting for this again if presented with a mediocre selection.

Final Grade: 2.91, a C. I'm not real big on shandies, but Shock Top has cooked up a drinkable one here. It lacks the dish soap/furniture cleaner vibe that plague a lot of these macro lemon beers, and would be refreshing enough served ice cold on a hot day, perhaps at the clubhouse after a game of golf or some-such. The final verdict? I don't entirely dislike this, but it's still annoyingly sweet.

Can: Poured a light yellow color ale with a light bubbly head with average retention. Aroma of lemon syrup with quite a bit of residual sugars is closer to juice than beer. Taste is a mix between some wheat malt notes with quite a bit of residual sugar and some lemon syrup notes. Body is light with good carbonation. Easy drinking wheat beer with a tad too much sugar thought.

Appearance - Pours hazy, but thin looking straw yellow with a white, 2 finger head. Average retention, results in very little lacing.

Smell - Decent aroma of wheat and lemon. That's the gist of it.

Taste - Wheat hits first, followed quickly by a moderate lemon sourness, leading the charge into a simple, quick finish. A faint lemon note lingers well into the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Razor thin watery body, with almost zero carbonation.

Overall - Another substandard Shock Top brew. Not a bad flavor, but the lack of any kind of body leaves this beer tasting a bit like lemon water.
