Our Lemon Shandy is a unique take on the classic Shandy that is distinctly Shock Top.

Brewed with two row and six row malted barley and five different types of hops, this Belgian-Style Wheat Ale is then combined with citrus peels, coriander, natural lemonade flavor and a hint of sugar for a subtle sweetness. The end result is an incredibly refreshing, crisp and smooth beer that hits the spot.

Big white head, quickly dies above a very light hazy pale to washed out light honey golden colored ale.

A big sweet lemon aroma overpowers everything else that might be there.

A light sweet yet unsweetened lemon with light sour grains coming through in the taste.

A light bodied beer that finishes with a light dry aftertaste that has some lemon hanging on to it.

Yuk, seems like they have this super huge vat of Bud Light and siphon off a few thousand gallons add some flavoring and give it a shock top name, getting a little old already. (543 characters)

Appearance was hazy, yellow-tan, with a very small head that immediately disappeared and left zero lace.

Lemons on the smell. Maybe some malt but no hops.

Taste is struggling. It's like carbonated lemonade with a little bit of beer in it.

Watery and moderately carbonated. Might as well be lemonade.

I'd skip this one if I were you. It's a malternative at best, if not just carbonated lemonade with a little alcohol in it. I wouldn't call this one beer. Despite slick packaging and no doubt some fancy advertising, this is typical of the crap that budweiser is trying to pass off as craft beer in order to keep their market share from declining even more. This is not even beer, let alone craft.

I'm glad I was given a bottle of this, because if I had bought a six pack I would have had to dump five of them. (816 characters)

Pours a predominantly clear light straw color, with a thin white head that dissipates rapidly. Lots of carbonation, accompanied by an audible fizzy hiss.
Aromas are of fake lemon and wet cardboard.
Palate is light and crisp. Tastes are of citrus lemon, and ginger ale.
Overall, the list of ingredients is rather off putting. The first two ingredients to this thing, which the can claims is a "Belgian Style White Beer" is "beer" and "ale". Wait how is beer an ingredient in beer? Next on the ingredient list is sugar, and a long list of words like "flavour" and "modified". No thanks. (584 characters)

Bland.

Update: It is my understanding that the morons at Anheuser-Busch are considering marketing this dreck here in Canada as craft beer. Lie to us some more. We love it. Jerks. (179 characters)

Looks the part, smells the part, but lemon La Perrier sparkling water has got more body and flavor than this. Thank god it was a sample. Not that leine summer shandy is my cup of tea but even that mops the floor with this, at least that tastes like it has malt in it. (267 characters)

A - Pours a yellowish orange with a one finger white head. Left no lacing.

S - Smells like lemon dish soap.

T - Tastes like lemon dish soap.

M - Medium bodied with medium carbonation.

O - Overall, Tastes like the most artificial soapy lemon I have ever witnessed. (267 characters)

Bottle (2012)

Thanks for the gift, Alucard4!

Hazy golden and light yellow with no head and very little visible carbonation. No lacing left down the glass.

Simple grain and lemon combine for...not very much at all.

Mild grain, corn, and artificial, overly sweet lemon are the dominating flavors here, though everything is so muted it's not intolerable. This tastes like a Bud Light Lemon.

Thin to medium bodied with low carbonation.

I won't be revisiting this. (466 characters)

Shock Top Lemon Shandy

LOOK: Pours a cloudy yellow with a short lived head. Tons of tiny little bubbles rising to the surface shows a high level of carbonation.

SMELL: Artificial lemon scent and husky, adjunct ridden, cheap beer smell .

TASTE: Lemon flavor has faded to watered down lemon juice, and sharp grains with just a pinch of what may very well be hop bitterness . A bit of wheat, and kind of watery. Tastes like old, carbonated lemon juice.

FEEL: Lighter bodied with a gross, palate coating must.

OVERALL: Not too great. There are much better shandys out there. This just wasn't refreshing and a chore to drink. (625 characters)

It pours a cloudy lemon yellow with close to a 2 finger head of foam with loads of bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass.

It sure does smell like lemonade. The label says it's brewed with spices and natural lemon flavor added but I'm not finding any spices. Maybe in the taste?

Yep, there is some coriander there, along with the lemon flavour. There's not much more than that going on but a shandy beer, by nature, is pretty simple.

Light bodied, watery finish, I didn't expect more than that.

This was a freebie from my retailer friend; I would have never ponied up the bucks for a 6 pack... (610 characters)

12oz bottle, pours a cloudy yellow with a tall, bubbly, white head that holds decent retention, but leaves no lacing on the glass whatsoever. Aromas are lemonade, faint wheat and yeast. Tastes are very one dimensional: lemonade. There are some faint wheat and yeast notes, but the lemons dominate. Mouth-feel is thinner than it should be, considering there's wheat in it. Ample carbonation and goes down smoothly. Overall, it is refreshing for a hot day, but rather bland and more like lemonade than beer. I would not try this one again. (537 characters)

Poured into a hefe glass.

A: Cloudy, hay colored, billowy eggshell white head, lots of bubbles. Even some lacing. Nice.

S: Was expecting a big lemon and other lite citrus note, but I got a typical weak macro-lager grain note. Lite dishwasher liquid and maybe a whiff of lemonade mix powder at the end. Disappointing.

T: Watered down lemonade... virtually no malts or hop taste. Not as tart as I thought it would be either, so its not even *that* refreshing.

M: Its spritzy and drinkable if you you're dying of thirst. A good substitute for ice water.

O: A very weak beer, even grading on a curve it fails. Good thing I managed to buy a single instead of a six pack. I don't think I'll ever buy this again. (715 characters)

12oz Bottle from CJ's NY for 1.75$

Appearance - Hazy gold colour with an above average size fizzy white coloured head. There is an average amount of carbonation and there is some faint lacing. The head lasted for around 5 minutes.

Smell - Corn, bread, lemons

Taste & Mouth - There is an average amount of carbonation and I can taste bread/wheat mixed with a sugary sweet lemon taste. It actually reminds me a bit of a lemon cough drop. There is a light amount of tartness, but it's more on the sweet side. It ends with an artificial sugary sweet lemon aftertaste.

Overall - Not something I'd ever buy or drink again. It's way too artificial tasting and it was tough to get through my glass. (694 characters)

12 oz. bottle, with code on the bottleneck label 13114. Acquired this bottle as part of a mixed six pack at the local beer store. A horrible idea I'm sure, and another awful incantation of the Shock Top brand. For the sake of knowledge!

Poured into a Lagunitas mason jar.

A - Pours a sickly pale yellow color with under two fingers of white fizz for a head that sizzles it's way out of existence. Looks pretty bad.

S - Smell? There really isn't any. Dusty yeast, pond water, and some grains. Artificial lemonade in the background. No spice character detected.

T - Taste is the same: dusty wheat, malts, grains, and some carbonated artificial lemonade soda mixed in there as well. I can see the wheat beer part, but the "Belgian", not so much.

M - Feel is crisp, light, watery, and mildly refreshing, in the same sense that a soda is. Light bodied with high bloating carbonation.

Overall, it's pretty bad, but it is drinkable and sessionable on a scorching summer's day. I can indefinitely say I would even prefer a Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy over this garbage. Avoid.

Tried at the end of the brewery tour in St Louis. Only one available I hadn't reviewed. Two finger bright white head on a cloudy but still bright golden body. Musty wheat, rice, hint of lemon citrus but very light. The flavor starts with rice, wheat ad grain with carbonated not so fresh lemonade rounding out the finish. Light body and high carbonation. Pretty gross beer. Worse than I would imagine lemonade being spiked with bud light. (438 characters)

12oz bottle, my girl's impulse purchase at the local grocery store in Waikiki. Man, the ingredient list here is not exactly what one would imagine goes into beer, even a fruity one.

This beer pours a hazy, pale golden straw colour, with one skinny finger of thin, wispy, and fizzy dirty white head, which leaves a low broken wall of ebbing lace around the glass as it quickly sinks away.

It smells very much like Lemon Pledge, sans the alcohol, with a mildly sour, underwhelming graininess (again, weirdly muffled - but I suppose I shouldn't get too miffed about differentiating rice and corn in such an offering). The taste is sweet lemony grain (like artificial lemonade crystals dropped into a Bud), with a bland honey sweetness addendum, and a weirdly ethereal, zingy, and yet hard to define, um, 'edginess' - hops, maybe? Hell to the no.

The bubbles, they be a bit too frizzy up front, but that doesn't last, the body quite light in weight, and weak, yet it's neither thin, nor watery. It finishes a little more grainy, even wheaty, with that fake lemon fruity party crasher.

Not exactly a shandy, as it's not a half and half deal (maybe they do math differently in St. Louis), but more of just a weakly-flavoured adjunct-buoyed wheat ale. Too much to pick apart, and not worthy of satisfying any sort of fruit-beer craving - I'm thinking of tossing in something from that huge wedding gift basket sitting on the desk over there. (1,438 characters)

S: artificial lemon;

T: follows the nose; sweet - no tartness;

M: light bodied; moderate carbonation:

A: A hazy straw colored soda. Big carbonation bubbles that shoot up the beer.

S: Lemon perfume. Kind of like a woman's lotion that is lemon scented.

T: Lemon. Also a fruity pebbles cereal grain flavor. Finishes fruity and sweet with the lemon flavor dominating.

M: Like a somewhat flat soda. Light and thin.

O: I happen to like lemon flavored things, so this wasn't terrible for me. There are other lemon beers out there that aren't so one dimensional. (456 characters)

My wife administered a taste test between Shock Top Lemon Shandy and Leinenkugel Summer Shandy. I had Leinie's Shandy last summer and enjoyed it...so refreshing. So, my comparison might be a little biased, having known quite well which to expect.

As for Shock Top

A - Yellow with just a touch of an orange tone. Looks like lemon juice. The head is fizzy...larger bubbles...but fades pretty fast and resides comfortably as a scarcely thin layer. Not much of a head, really, to look at. Pretty carbonated; bubbles rising a a fairly constant rate.

S - Lemon, cardboard, and a minimal Heineken-like skunk (not unbearable, though). No lemon peel as one would expect. Not beer like at all - almost zero hops or malt. Not much, really.

T - What the tongue's been waiting for. In collision with the nose, there's a minimal lemony flavor - kind of fake - coming through. Yeah, definitely not beer-like. Cardboard flavor is there (as it was with the nose). Super watery ( typical of most things "Anheuser Busch"). I get the watery thing because of the summer time, but WE WANT FLAVOR! This beer's for pansy Bud Lite drinkers who want somethign "a little different:...well it's different, but it's NOT different. If you drink it, you'll know what I mean.

O - Egh. Definitely prefer Leinenkugel Summer Shandy over this...much more bitter lemon flavor, citrusy refreshing taste. This? No tengo nada!

A-pours a cloudy pale straw color with a sudsy white head that quickly fades
S-lots of mr clean floor cleaner lemon, a bit of malt struggling to get through
T-Aroma directly translates into flavor. and thats not good. The lemon almost acts as if it shouldn't be in there. not for the style, just for this beer.
M-light bodied
O-not a very good shandy. I don't mind a nice shandy or half and half once in awhile but this one is just off. (437 characters)

A pretty bland shandy. The appearance was a very light yellow with a fizzy head. The smell was mostly of the lemonade. The taste was very tart and seemed like this was much more lemonade than beer. Wasn't very blown away by the flavors as everything was overrun with the lemonade. Mouthfeel was light but nice for the summer. Overall I'd say I'd be fine with it if I saw it at a picnic but I'm not going to search it out. (422 characters)

Pours hazy straw yellow, white head is decently pillowy and sticky, surprisingly. Faint aroma, hint of lemon, memory of coriander, only a foggy remembrance of wit yeast. Taste is similar, splash of lemon, slight coriander and wit character, mostly water. Very light in body, spritzy. Watery to a point of refreshment, more of a sparkling water than a beer, though the ABV is actually surprisingly high for the style. Overall probably a success for what they are shooting for here. Inoffensive, refreshing, and an overall lack of "beer" character. (546 characters)

Is this Pine-Sol?

But seriously, this is a bad shandy. No lemonade sweetness, just tart lemon juice ruining an otherwise-okay wheat beer. Just not my thing. (157 characters)

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a 14 oz "pint" glass. Pours a cloudy yellow straw with a little head, but that disappears very quickly. Smells of lemonade with a hint of wheat. Tastes of a little bit of lemon with some wheat, but is not very strong at all. Beer is very light and goes down well, but has a bit too much carbonation. Overall, a below average beer. (362 characters)

Yellowish in color with a cloudy body, Shock Top Lemon Shandy emits an aroma of lemons, a touch of clove, and a small amount of bread. Foam is okay at first, but doesn’t hold together very long.

This beer has a flavor that combines wheat, grains, lemons, and just a hint of clove spice. The taste keeps going back to the lemons, as expected, but there are some other flavors in there, mainly light wheat. The lemon flavor is the one most noticeable, but even the lemons are not that strong. The beer finishes watery and even though the product claims to use real lemonade, the taste is not that natural.

Shock Top Lemon Shandy does have one positve point, and that its thirst- quenching quality. Drink it very cold on a hot day and you won’t be disappointed; not thrilled, no, but not disappointed either. It seems made for this purpose, but little else. The body is a too light and too lacking in basic beer ingredients to recommend for anything else. (960 characters)

Hazy, honey colored body with a tiny head and no lacing. Smells of lemon zest, a bit floral and wet hay. Taste follows closely behind but with a presence of mango. High carbonated, dry finish "beer" which is refreshing at least.

Overall- On a hot day I wouldn't mind having one or two. I dont see myself purchasing one any time soon but if it is offered, try it. (363 characters)
