APPEARANCE: Sickly fizzy clear light pink. Looks like a wine cooler.

SMELL: Rasperries and stale, left-in-the-glass-overnight merlot.

TASTE: Raspberry flavoring leaving a slick coating on the palate. Wine cooler like taste, this should be called " Sea Breeze Raspberry Mixer". Like in medieval times, maybe urine could have been added to balance. It's not far off in its current state.

FEEL: Overcarbonated sweet cloying mess that really sticks with you. Oof!

OVERALL: Fizzy fruity berry. Not beer really a shame it boasts itself as one. Money was never exchanged but trust me I paid for it. (596 characters)

12 oz twist-off bottle poured into a pilsner glass.
8% ABV, 12086 printed on label.
(Reviewed 06-24-12 - from notes)

A - Deep ruby pink in hue, the color is so rich it's frightening. A fleeting light pastel head drapes a few fingers of lace on the glass before collapsing to next to nothing.

S - Thick raspberry fruit puree is reminiscent of sugar-laden IHOP syrup, though not as inciting. Grainy pale malt barely makes it through but it still features a crisp lager finish. While it smells artificial, I can't bring myself to say it's offending but maybe that's my love affair with raspberries coming out.

T - Abundantly sweet, cloying, completely fake raspberry flavor overlaps the generous helping of cheap malt liquor flavor behind. It's not pleasant at all.

M - The 8% doesn't hide well here. You can just feel it's warmth on retronasal breathing. Thick and cloyingly sweet with a moderate carbonation level and grossly grainy finishing.

O - A poor substitute for a wine cooler, Rascal's Wild Red is sickly sweet to the point a diabetes warning should be included on packaging. It's like mixing IHOP syrup with half a can of Steele Reserve. Avoid this one. (1,166 characters)

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass

A: Hey who put cool-aid in my beer... Poured a blush wine color with a little pink head that disappears more quickly than it arrived and with not lacing at all.

S: Sweet, tart raspberries wine with a hint of alcohol.

T: Sweet right up front then the tart raspberries kick in. Hardly any any note of alcohol in the taste. Very clean finish.

M: Light bodied, wet with a crisp carbonation.

O: This is more like a wine than a beer... But for what it is it is spot on for the style. If you like raspberries this might be for you. (566 characters)

Doesn't look like a beer. Yeah, it's liquid and has a head, but that's it. It's a reddish burgundy pour. It's got a large pink head. Mix cranberry juice and 7Up, same thing.

Offensive smell of raspberry juice...from across the room. I give it an extra half point because I like raspberries.

It's terrible. Tastes like an extremely bad kriek mixed with too much raspberry juice.

It was actually painful going down. Due to overwhelming carbonation, it actually burns the whole way. Far too sweet.

Overall, it's shit. It's really not a beer. While I actually kind of liked Wild Blue, this was a disaster from start to end. (624 characters)

this is just awful. the bottle says lager, but they lie. this "beer" is a sham. avoid at all costs.

I was looking for something new and flavorful at my local liquor store. I settled on this because I hadnt really heard of it before.

I cracked open the bottle and was assaulted by the aroma of raspberries and sweetness. Didnt think much of it. Ive had beers before that had strong smells that I very much enjoy. If I only knew...

The first sip. Oh boy, where to begin. At fist it tasted like a wine cooler. Then the alcohol flavor kicked in. And by kicked in I mean kicked me in the face. If malt liquor and Smirnoff ice had crazy drunken sex, this would be the bastard offspring it produced.

I assumed that it may just be the way i was drinking it. Maybe it just needed to let the smell take over. I poured the bottle into a goblet and holy crap. Its pop. its a damn pop labeled lager. It looks like pop, it pours like pop. There was very briefly a pinkish head. What was left in my glass was nothing more than soda water with 8% alcohol mixed in like the marketing team had no better ideas on how to sell this crap other than making it into train wine.

I ignored all the signs and my own conscience and took a long, slow drink. Ever have your mouth washed out with flavored soap? Did the fact that it was flavored make it any better? Didnt think so...

Just dont. Dont buy this. This is not a beer, it is liquid lies. (1,426 characters)

Looks like a Lindeminns product, clear and cherry red with a wisp of white head on top. Smells like cranberry juice or a box drink on steroids. Interesting that this is a beer. It tastes like candied raspberry syrup shots someone would put on a snow cone. Instead, said shot was pumped full of carbonation and busch light. It is syrupy and sticky with a medium body. I could see some HS kids liking this or maybe mixing it in with a sangria, but it is a little too much for me right now. (487 characters)

A - Poured out a clear, red color with a one-finger, pink head of bubbly foam. It short-lived head left little to no lacing.

S - It smelled of raspberry juice. Not awful but not beer-like.

T - Tart raspberries lead the flavor profile, but there is also this strange burn -- the alcohol maybe?

M - It was crisp and sharp. A light bodied beer with a clean finish.

O - Not so good, but sadly it might be better than the blueberry one. (435 characters)

Dark red with a thin fizzy pink head with poor retention and next to no lacing. Smells like artificial raspberries which are way too sweet.

The taste is like sweet fake raspberries with an attempt to balance with a little bitterness. Not much to get excited about here.

Light to medium bodied with plenty of carbonation. This is just bad, and is not recommended. (365 characters)

A - dark, red with a fizzy layer of pink head that fades quickly

S - sweet, tart raspberries

T - tart raspberries, sweet, faint bitterness in the finish

M - crisp, medium bodied

A bit sweet and very forward with the raspberries. This tastes more like juice than beer. Fruit beer lovers will probably enjoy this, but for me it was a bit too sweet and overpowering. (367 characters)

12 oz bottle served in a snifter.

A: Bright red color carries over into the pink tinted head. This head doesn't last too long and leaves little lacing. Enjoy looking at it; refrain from consumption.

Smell: Smells like raspberry candy or Jello, with a bit of raspberry soap. and alcohol.

T: Excessively sweet, like a raspberry soda, but with a bit of bitterness that lends it a medicinal flavor. Artificial raspberry dominates almost everything else, but some vague spicing is also evident. Aftertaste comparable to that from eating cheap raspberry candy.

M: light-medium body with ample carbonation, yet somewhat watery.

O: Not beer, and a not good beverage. At least as much like a wine cooler as a beer. Might work for somebody who loves fruit sodas and dislikes beer. Alternatively, if a bottle comes into your possession and you can't pawn it off on someone else, perhaps you could use some of this to add some fruit flavor to another beer. (952 characters)

This raspberry lager pours a bright red with some scary pink carbonation and no lace.

The aroma is an olfactory-pleasing raspberry, so not bad there.

Taste? First, this isn't beer in any way I can detect. I get a heavy-flavored soft drink with 8% alcohol. It's super-sweet and artificial-tasting, with no trace of hops or grain. Avoid this awful travesty and don't look back. (379 characters)

First off, these styles are so hard to judge because it's like trying to score a Wine Cooler on a beer website. Anyhow, it poured a red wine looking body with a finger, pink/red head. Retention was poor and lacing was barely seen.

S- Rasberrys, malts and spices. Smells like Sunny Delight with a kick.

T- Once again, this beer screams wine cooler. Rasberry taste with an alcoholic kick. Not hard to tilt back and I could drink this with a burger.

M- High carbonation, thin bodied and easy to drink.

If for some reason you are trying to get away from the norm, then this is it. You could even tell your friends that its cheap wine. (634 characters)

The two new wild beers are out, I thought I swore off Wild Blue, but here goes the raspberry version with a cartoon Basset Hound named Rascal. Premium lager brewed with spices and with natural flavors and color from juice added. Aroma has tart raspberries, candy like sweet cane sugar, a bit of alcohol underneath the fruit. Basically a higher hand kill yourself loko alcoholic pop. Flavor is super sweet but backs off enough with carbonation and earthy raspberry seeds to let it not be straight sugar, a touch of alcohol makes it through onto the palate. Mouthfeel is dry with some tart/sweet/earthy edges to it, not as cloying as I recall the Wild Blue being, I'm actually taking small sips of this one and it is halfway gone. Alcohol does overburden the palate but I can detect it's presence. Overall another big fruit beer that will be sold for 8.99 a six pack of 8% fruit lager, is this good for craft beer when somebody starts playing beer pong with this or wakes up with a killer hangover, or worse yet gets alcohol poisoning because it tasted like soda pop and they didn't realize it was 8% abv. (1,103 characters)

This beer poured out as a deep fake looking red color with a pink colored head on top. The smell of the beer is sweet and fruity, there is a light grainy booze aroma in there too. The taste of the beer is sweet, similar to a wine cooler. The beer tastes like sweet raspberries but unnatural. The mouthfeel is kind of bland. No real complexity or anything like that going on here. Overall it's a flavorful drink but nothing too natural about it. Not a fan. (455 characters)

My girlfriend absolutely had to try the new Wild Red because Wild Blue has always been one of her guilty pleasures. I'm going to take sips from her pint glass and review this one.

Scarlet red, almost magenta, hue to the beer, and it shows some haziness. Light pastel pink head that doesn't keep too long. Some alcohol legs fall around when the liquid is swirled. 3.5

Smells almost exactly like black raspberry JELL-O. No detectable hops and only the slightest whiff of wet cereal. A little bit of alcohol in the nose. Not much else to say. 2.0

Soda pop sweetness triple-dosed with artificial raspberry, Grenadine, and alcohol. Tart astringencies are drying, sticky, and puckering in the inside of the mouth. Has the mouthfeel of fruity malt liquor. Head-rushing sweetness that beckons the hangover gods. Next to nothing along the lines of malts, hops, or yeast lingering in the finish. And, when I say finish, I mean aftertaste. A similar aftertaste to eating red gummi candy. 2.0, 1.5

I don't really know what this is, and quite frankly, who it appeals to. Besides actual definition, this is just that short of 'NOT BEER'. My girlfriend would trade this for a Miller Lite any day. There's another bottle in the refrigerator, which I'm sure will be saved for a fifty-fifty mix with Hoegaarden (as soon as we get some Hoegaarden). Yep, this is what I have to look forward to. 2.0 (1,382 characters)

Appearance, well red, no we mean red. Like bright red, berry red. The smell is very berry, as in raspberry. Taste is very berry, we have a hard time here at Barley Road call this a beer. Mouthfeel is good with very little lingering on the tongue. Overall this is a nice cooler and a great summer drink. We here at Barley Road had a time mixing this brew with some sparkling lime water. We created the RAZ, the Barley Road girls loved this mix. Enjoy, nice alternative to beer. (476 characters)

Served in a Local Option glass.

The long-awaited, highly anticipated raspberry follow-up to Wild Blue. Hoorah, amiright? It pours a murky maroon topped by a half-finger of off-white foam. From the moment the cap was twisted off a blast of raspberry filled my nose (and my room), and that's what dominates my glass. It's sweet, sugary, and berry-y. Damn, I wonder what this could be made to taste like...? Unsurprisingly, my tongue is also met by a blast of artificial raspberry (I'm leaning toward blue raspberry, actually), but with a strange off-flavor running through things at the same time. It's hard to explain, so I'm gonna put it this way: Imagine Lindemans Framboise, in all its artificially-sweetened raspberry glory, then add, say, the earthy skins of ripe raspberries that have been left out somewhere to "age". Something like that. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a sorta dry finish. Overall, a pretty sad beer, but one that could have probably turned out much, much worse. I frankly liked the blueberry better, and don't see the same focus in this offering. (1,108 characters)
