12 oz twist-off bottle poured into a pilsner glass.

A - Shadow's Wild Black pours a dark plum purple with ruby highlights and is crowned by a light purple head. Effervescent and fizzy, it evaporates to a thin skim with a wimpy collar of foam.

S - Artificial jam aroma. Should I be getting ready to spread this beer on a toasted English muffin, or drink it? It also has a very awkward light scent of pizza sauce spread over thin crust, oddly enough. A swirl of this beer brings out plenty of sugar.

T - Exceeding my expectations, the blackberry flavor, while artificial and sweet, isn't plain awful. Grainy malt lingers behind but remains at an acceptable level.

M - Cloying sweetness shouldn't be any surprise following the other two versions of this beer. Thick feeling through the moderate carbonation, Wild Black has a faint alcohol kick along the finish.

O - Out of all the "Wild" series of these AB beers, I find this the least offensive and most likely to substitute well for a wine cooler, but it begs the question, "why?" Sadly, I'm left speechless for an answer.

When taking the first sip of this beer it tastes like blackberry juice and you will think oh man for 8% this is pretty delicious, but the aftertaste is like someone spilled their lager into your cup of juice. Drinking more than one of these at a time made me sick because of how sweet it was. I cant safely say that its NOT my type of lager.. or that i even consider it a lager. Its worth a try though, some people enjoy that overly sweet taste. I consider it more of a sugary mixed drink, but that's just my opinion.

Had Wild Blue a few years back and it remains one of the worst concoctions I've ever had. For some reason, I was in a Total Wine about a year and a half ago and saw this and thought, "Man, it can't be worse that Wild Blue. But I HAVE to know how bad it is." Walked out of there, only then remembering how torturous the experience of drinking Wild Blue really was, and then parked this in my fridge, where it has sat for 18 months. I'm moving soon, so it's time to clear some inventory. Even if it kills me.

A: Pours a deep purple color, similar to wild blue. Has a faint tinge of purple to the head, but nothing crazy alarming just yet. Definitely looks like more of a Juice Squeeze than beer, but I've had weird looking beer that tasted good before. Who knows...

S: Nope, this is gonna suck. A sickeningly sweet artificial blackberry monster attacks the nostrils immediately. Behind it are "notes" of chlorine, concord grape, artificial blueberry, wet cardboard and what I would imagine dog vomit would smell like if that dog had just scarfed a BUNCH of Starbursts.

T: Scared to do this after the smell, but it's a little too late now. For science! A faint dash of faded hop sourness is first, but it's quickly obliterated by sweet and sticky notes of grape jelly, pureed raisin and blackberry Robitussin (if that's a thing). There's a brief really sweet wine-like note towards the end, kind of like those fruity berry Arbor Mist things that you used to see those dumb commercials for with dudes jumping on trampolines. Leaves a lingering note on the tongue that's somewhere between what it would taste like if you blended blackberries with tar and pure shame. Somehow, this is better than Wild Blue, but that's kind of like saying that Pizza Beer is better than Rogue's Voodoo Maple Bacon Ale. Bottom of the barrel caliber stuff here. Just say no, my friends.

Appearance: Pours purple in color with less than a finger of a pinkish head that dissipates instantly to a thin collar. It looks a lot like grape soda.

Smell: Aroma is artificial grape, and blackberry. It's a pretty strong aroma as well.

Taste: Same as it smells, artificial berry, grain alcohol, slight cereal grain.

Mouthfeel: Heavier side of medium bodied. Syrupy mouthfeel. Finishes cloyingly sweet, with a mild alcohol burn.

Overall: This is bad. It's nothing more than artificially flavored alcoholic sugar water. The only reason I can think of to drink this would be to get a quick buzz, and even then, I can think of much better ways to go about doing that.

Eye: It pours looking like a Merlot, or blackberry wine, I guess that's on par. However; head formation is pitiful and there is no retention, what little head does form vanishes very quickly. Looks like a darkly colored malternative, or a slightly carbonated fruit wine. Not really what I want from a fruit beer. Beer being the word there, not flavored malt beverage-smirnoff etc. As with the others the label states that this is a lager then contradicts itself on the side of the label near the questions/comments phone number saying that this is a flavored ale.

Nose: Huge blackberry aroma and very sweet. Smells more like a blackberry syrup for pancakes. Very alternative-esque. Nothing beer-like in the aroma. All fruit, all very sweet and all very very malternative like. Just too syrupy sweet for beer in my opinion. Is this actually a beer? or is it a malternative?

Tongue: Sweet, thick, jam-like and syrupy. As with the others in this AB fruit series I'd rather make a reduction sauce with it and pour it on my waffles or pancakes than straight up drink it. Blackberry is prevalent, and the beer is sweet, close to cloying. Its tastes like a malternative, not a "premium lager with natural flavors and color from juice." It literally tastes like blackberry flavored pancake syrup. Not a good fruit beer, wouldn't perform well in a fruit wine category either. But a thin waffle syrup, well hell sure! Again, this would be a good cheap flavored beverage to cook with if you are looking for intense fruit flavor. Body is heavy which is helped out by higher carbonation, very sugary and leaves a thickness on the palate.

Drinkability: I've been saying it over and over. Not worth the money, or worth trying, however, if you are looking to use something to make a reduction sauce with this'll work and be cheaper than fruit wines. I'd not recommend this one to anyone, just because there is way better out there. I might as well tell you to go drink Smirnoff Ice something or other.

Pours blueish black with thin whispy head, looks a bit chemical. No lace, very soda like. Nose is of blackberries, and somewhat artificial blackberries.

Cloying sweet blueberry, almost soda like. A bit of bitter finish that transitions to sweet and then back to bitter astringency.

Almost like drinking an alcoholic soda that seems more intent on hitting you on the head with blackberry flavor. No trace of nuance. A fun beer if you don't care what you drink, and want something sweet, but other than that a bit of a disappointment.

Another gem from match1112. 12 oz bottle into an over sized wine glass.

A - Pours a dark purple body with thin light purple edging. Straight 4'Loko style.

S - A pretty intense aroma of fake blackberries and a touch of vodka. Such a strong smell!

T - How do people drink this? Sugar, sweetener, sugar syrup, black berry jam, and sugar cubes. Its so over the top, this taste like an alcoholic sucralose fruity blackberry bomb. Thick and syrupy.

O - There are zero redeeming qualities to this beer. Its cheap and highly alcoholic, but you would have to break through a wall of artificial sweetener and defeat the inevitable headache to achieve any sort of buzz. Just stick with fruited vodka.

12 oz. bottle, with no apparent bottled on date present. I tried this beer and it's two companion beers sometime last summer, and I remember being underwhelmed, but for the sake of knowledge I decided to give this beer another go. I do remember enjoying this one the most out of the three.

Poured into a Firestone Walker pint glass.

A - Pours about two fingers of fizzing pinkish / purple/ white colored head on top of a ruby red / purple berry fruit juice concentrate colored body. Looks like some fruit juice concentrate in a glass with some cotton candy head on it.

S - Smell is of generic berry juice concentrates more than it is of actual genuine blackberry or blueberry flavor. No natural beer flavors to comment upon.

T - Taste is comprised of artificial fruit juice flavor and a hint of hot medicinal alcohol presence. Tastes like some kind of punch mixed with a bit of cheap vodka more than it embodies an actual fruit beer. Minor tartness. Virtually no legitimate blackberry flavor to be found here, and that is apparent from the first sip onward. I suppose you could argue that there is faint corn husk and grain adjuncts present here as well, but that is debatable.

M - Feel is fruity, sugary, sticky, & artificial. Some burning nail polish remover alcohol astringency.

Overall, another awful Anheuser-Busch attempt to infiltrate the world of craft beer, with shady marketing schemes like releasing this beer under a separate moniker so you wouldn't know it was an Anheuser-Busch product, until you got home, drank it, and realized what a horrible rip-off it is. However, in the grand scheme of the beer world, it is palatable, inoffensive, and packs a solid 8.00% abv so it is sure to please those looking to rage during the summer.
