Once again, Anheuser Busch is putting the bucket down the well. This times it send down Budweiser Black Crown, but what will show up once the bucket is pulled back up? The label looks clean, but to answer the question of what's inside, let's open the...errr....black crown and move on to the beer:

A little paler than orange is the color with hues of amber mixed in, depending on the lighting of the room. Bunches of carbonation bubbles race to the top, where a small fuzzy soapy head sits on top and slowly eats away at itself. Tiny dots of lace stick around as the liquid contracts. The smell actually borrows some notes from its stablemate Budweiser; clean with a fruity rice note. Or is that the yeast? Either way, it's not very exciting.

Take Budweiser, add a little more body, a little more overall flavor, and of course, a little more alcohol. The malt has a sweet potato accent to it. Vague fruitiness. Is there rice in there, because there is this note which I've tasted in Budweiser which I'm tasting here. The flavors aren't working together, nor particularly well. The alcohol makes its presence known, not so much in the mouth, but in the chest. The body is light with a wateriness to it, with big bubbles exploding on the palate.

Uninspiring. For an amber lager, I was hoping to get a little more out of it. And if I'm looking for an Anheuser Busch product to drink, does Michelob still make their porter and dunkelweizen?

Clear amber body with an eggshell white head forms fine evenly dispersed lacing, somewhat fizzy carbonation a stream of bubbles rise from the bottom of my glass. Aroma has some actual cereal grains going on with a touch of Beechwood or at least reminiscent of the regular Budweiser. This one kicks up the alcohol at 6% abv, and also invites a touch of fruitiness and mild caramel accents, earthy jumbled generic hop accents. Flavor wise it's a bit rough, each sip has an edge that I'm just not in favor of, light cereal grain sweetness with a dry finish with rough cooked vegetable notes and some woody bark like notes that don't add to the complexity but only fortify the reason why I drink craft beer pre-dominantly. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with aggressive carbonation, harsh finish I spoke about continues to effect the palate in a negative way. This is Budweiser's answer to Yuengling let's add some caramel coloring to a similar Budweiser recipe and compete directly with a brand they we now do a lot of distribution for. Overall impression is that I won't be picking up more of this, the plus side is that it's only 2 bucks for a 22 ounce bottle of it, and I believe pretty affordable in sixers, and twelve packs.

A - Very good looking beer. Poured a deep golden color and had a nice white fluffy head that disapted rather quickly

S - Really doesnt have much smell. Definately no hops aroma. There is a slight hint of maltyness.

T - Too "winey" tasting for me. Taste like a rice beer in my opinion. Nit unpleasant, but if I'm goning to drink this type of beer just give me a Bud Light.

M - Very light bodied beer. Goes down easy and could put several down. No burn

O - I wanted to try it because it was something new. Wasn't bad, but nothing I'll seek out for sure. If I'm not drinking good beer, I'll just stick with Bud Light.

Bitter, almost sour. Not red in color as amber would suggest. Not terribly pleasant but the ABV gives a good kick from an atypical macro. Kudos to Budweiser for the effort though.

Looks: great, the color is phenomenal, golden copper(ish) look to it, quick falling head that doesn't stick but no biggie.

Taste: a maltier more flavorful Budweiser. I like the occasional bud so this is a good thing, could go for a larger variety of hops, or maybe even just more hops.

Mouth Feel: over carbonated like Bud, but not as much, a significantly smoother drink kinda just melts in your mouth down your throat.

Aroma: Much lacking here, would really appreciate some aroma, however it is just a very bland smelling beer. Once again, use a different variety or more hops.

After Taste: Not a lot to it, it goes down smooth then it's kinda just gone.

Overall: Better than Budweiser or most of the American yellow fizzy water out there. However still lacking in some areas that I could see making the beer better. With that said, I would recommend this to almost anyone to try a solid simple beer that is not overly complex, or to throw down a 6 pack with some buddies after a hot day in the sun while relaxing under a tree or around a pool.

12oz bottle, pours golden-amber with striking clarity, thin, bubbly, white head dissipates very quickly. Aromas are lager yeast, metallic, faint toasted grain. Taste has some nice toasted grain up front, but other than that it's pretty much like most of the other AB offerings: not much for flavor, cereal, faint grassy hops. Mouth-feel is thin and watery with the higher carbonation making it feel a little fuller. Overall, I didn't expect much here, so I guess you could say it delivered?

Appearance: Pours a quickly dissipated 2 finger head that leaves little in the way of lacing. Color was deep golden-copper...I don't see the red. Lots of action going on in the glass as well.

Smell: Picking up a little malt...I think. Some stale hops too. Wait...There's the hops and some other metallic smell too.

Taste: Light caramel malt with noticeable alcohol in the back. Bitterness is at least balanced but not enough character to support alcohol content.

Mouthfeel: Crisp and smooth. Goes down fast and would suffice as a lawnmower. Carbonation is a tad high and decreases the smoothness a touch.

Overall: Not the worst beer I've ever had and certainly not the worst from the brewer. This is one of the better efforts from AB.
