From BeerAdvocate Magazine #83 (Dec 2013):
Really not much to this brew at all. It has a half-decent malt base for a “bock,” but nothing really pops with this beer. Barely balanced and pretty much one-sided all the way through. We could really see the restrained character and loss of potential here.
STYLE: American Bock
ABV: 6.0%
AVAILABILITY: Rotating
LOOK: Light mahogany hue, ample suds
SMELL: Hint of caramel, chicory, faint broth, spice, clean, faint cocoa powder
TASTE: Smooth, crisp, wet, light bodied, watery caramel, malty, modest hopping, kiss of alcohol, slightly bready, dried grass, dry finish, very clean aftertaste

This beer is a back of the fridge pull. It is about one year old at this time.
Clear amber with one finger of off white head with not much retention.
Smell is all malts.
Taste is mostly bready with some caramel malts. The label says chocolate malt as well but it is very faint. What hops are present are just enough to provide some balance. No real bitterness in the finish. Light bodied somewhat watery with adequete carbonation. Finish is lightly sweet with a tiny amount of bitterness. Overall I think this is a typical A-B craft attempt that is one of the best of last year's mix 12 pack version two. Maybe a good one for those Bud drinkers that want to try some new styles.

Had to do a double-take in the make-your-own-six-pack aisle of my local Jewel-Osco when I saw they had both the limited edition Budweiser Beechwood Bock and North Pacific Style Lager. Not just like one or two dusty bottles, but like six or seven of each, leading me to believe that they found a stray twelve pack or something in the back that they hadn't touched in a wild. Not even mad that it's probably a little aged; just bless to try at least two of these rare offerings.
Appearance: Dark amber in color, just like the bottle states. Very brown and just looks dark and brooding from the color. This could go one of two ways.
Smell: Can smell the chocolate and faint caramel undertones, mixed in with what smells like alcohol, almost, but not wholly equivalent to, a malt liquor. Again, this could go one of two ways.
Taste: Luckily, it goes the way I wanted it to. The beer is delicious, following the nose with a chocolatey-beer taste with the caramel hops making themselves known. Heavier while, at the same time delicious and thoroughly enjoyable to sip or slug.
Mouthfeel: Present and not too carbonated, just the way I like it.
Anheuser-Busch, in my opinion, is making a more hearty effort to branch out into the more complex, craft market than I believe they're given credit. With the variety of delicious Shock Top flavors and this project to give different tastes from different locations a try, this definitely proves that AB has the resources and tools to churn out more acceptable offerings than their average to awful mass-produced brands; now if only they show ambition.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a shaker pint glass.
APPEARANCE: pours deep reddish/amber with less than 1 finger creamy off-white head that dissipated quickly leaving a ring of bubbles, higher than average carbonation and almost no lacing on the glass.
SMELL: toasted malt, sweet caramel and bread.
TASTE: the taste follows the nose, sweet caramel, toasted malt, a mild hop profile, the alcohol 6% is imperceptible, this is a malt forward beer to be sure.
PALATE: smooth and creamy with higher than average carbonation, finishes clean.
OVERALL: this is not a bad beer for the style but nothing special, I preferred the North Pacific Style Lager for this second edition of the Brewmaster's Project Twelve. Anheuser-Busch is moving in the right direction.
