This beer is made in the state of Hesse, and it makes a great wheat beer. It is the national group of Binding in Frankfurt. The orignial brewery site was the home of Peter Schoffer, a pioneering printer from the same deal as Gutenberg. This is very dry with a plummy, damsonlike fruitiness and a suggestion of grapefruit zest in the finish. It is widely available in Germany and can be drunk at any time of the day (trust me). It is one of my absolute favorite beers in the world.

Appearance: Cloudy apricot, beautiful balanced head which lasts for a nice while it thickens, leaving a nice display of lacing. It looks like what a Hefe Weizen should look like.

Smell: smells strongly of banana and earthen spices. Great Smell

Taste/ Mouthfeel: Cloves and earthen spices hit the palate and release a range of tarty sweetness on the edge which then changes into the banana we witnessed earlier in the smell. Meanwhile the earthen spices and wheat course dryness attacks the centre of the palate asking for another sip. The aftertaste is that of apple skin with a bitterness of the edge of the palate. The whole mix has just the right amount of carbonisation to make it refreshing yet goes down so easy that drinking this is a breeze

Drinkability/Overall: A great Hefe Weizen. Easy drinking. This one has all the right moves. A great Hefe Weizen to introduce to a beer drinker unfamiliar of the style.

Gorgeous thick, rich sturdy head stis atop an opaque orange gold body. Some light carbonation. A very good-looking beer.

Delicious fruit-sweet nose. Touches of orange, lemonade laced with hops and sweet malt.

A fair amount of bitterness on the palate, a little more than I've come to expect from a wheat beer. Long finish that starts with a lip-smacking bitter hops freshness (almost reminiscent of an IPA) and mellows to a coppery sweetness at the back of the mouth. There's a dusty dryness at the very, very end which just wonderfully caps off this beer.

This is a very, very pleasant brew. I've tried a few of these now, and every time I find something new to appreciate. Wonderful job

If you're in Frankfurt am Main and looking for a pleasant, refreshing beer, you need look no further than Schöfferhofer. I'm a fan of hefeweizens. I have probably tried at least thirty five different examples of the style, and I'd say that this is solidly in the top ten. It pours like the typical hefe, and it has a very balanced, pleasing taste. Definately worth a try, especially if you're new to hefeweizens. Unfortuantely, I've never seen this outside of Germany.

Poured a huge, creamy, vanilla head that sat a half inch above the top of the glass until it faded slowly leaving thick strands of lace. Hazy golden colored beer. It smells amazing. There is a dose of soft yeasty banana, a pinch of clove, and underneath it all are citrus and floral notes. Soft, moderately full bodied beer holds a good amount of carbonation that keeps it fluffy on the tongue. Cotton candied citrus flavors are supported by yeasty banana flavors. Citrus flavor is a hair sour like a Witbier at first, but then switches to slightly bitter towards the finish. Flavor could be a bit fuller, but otherwise this is a really tasty Hefe Weizen.

The orange labeled Hefeweizen has a yellowish orange cloudy color. The nice and creamy off-white head has pretty good staying power with a little cream at the bottom of the glass and produces a maze of lace from the rim to the base. The back label shows to pour most and then swirl the bottle to pull the sludge off of the bottom and then finish your pour. I tried it without the swirl and with the yeast mix and did not notice much of a difference. A soft fragrance of spice and citrus builds the anticipation for the fruit/spice flavor that goes down smooth with a touch of bitterness towards the end. I found this German Bier to be very drinkable and tasty. One with which I will build a lasting relationship.

The beer pours with a very rich thick white head. The liquid is slightly cloudy and dark yellow. Exceptional in all aspects.

The aroma has slight cloves but no banana aroma. I could not detect any hops.

The flavor has bananas and light cloves. With every mouthful, the banana flavor increases and improves. The wheat flavor is present. There is a tartness that is not from hops and the carbonation plays with the tongue.

The mouthfeel is creamy and full of carbonation.

I LOVE hefeweizen and find this one of the finest I have had since coming back from Germany last May. I would recommend this beer to anyone looking for a great wheat beer.

Pours a cloudy lemon yellow with whipped cream head that clings to the edges of the glass with trailers. Wax, clove and deep honey-banana sweetness on the nose. Banana creme pie/banoffi malts, then mild nutmeg, lemongrass, and soft mint hops. Soft, creamy, round, a touch thin.

Not the most complex or challenging, but better for it - creamy body and mild flavor makes this an easy-drinker for a night out or to go with food. Fills a niche for a sessionable weiss.

What can i say - a classic Hefeweizen but not my favourite - an Erdinger rather than an Ayinger I m gonna say:

A - A golden cloudy body with an orange tinge and very good head that doesn t just fizz away

S - Typical wheat beer smell - bananas, orange and clove but this one is a bit bready

T - Das ist sehr gut ja albeit not outstanding decent bananabread with spice taste but lacking in depth and not quite fruity enough for a Hefeweizen

M - High carbonation but pleasant big bubbles not fizzy and refreshing on the tongue

D - Yes all year round high drinkability

WOW.
What a great hefeweizen from germany!
I was a huge Paulaner Hefe Weizen naturrub before this beer. I liked this Schofferhofer alot more because it does not taste as heavy ( fruity ) and it has a very crisp clean finish to it.
With the right pour in a freshly rinsed 500ml Weizen glass( very important ) this beer goes an amazingly long way. Its one of the least expensive Wheat Brews we have here in Winnipeg and it honestly can be called better than the others.
It does not lack the taste such as the more expensive erdinger weissbier ( HELLES )

Now to the beer
Like i said it has the perfect mix of fruit and yeast taste, not overpowering in any way.
A very nice fluffy white head and a very light orange colour.
Smell.... Delicious.
This beer is easily a great for the summertime with barbecues or just hot days in general. Pair this beer with a lovely Weisswurst and you can't go wrong. I guarantee it!

Also A little tip on pouring a hefe weizen - Put the glass overtop the bottle, flip then slowly pull the bottle outside the glass as the beer slowly flows in. DO THIS SLOWLY or it will overfoam and you will make a mess. Youtube this before you do it and practice makes perfect!
Cheers!!!

I like the simple orange label on this beer. It pours a glowing hazy orange with a huge pillowy head thats the consistency of softserve ice cream. The aroma has green apples, citrus, vanilla and cloves. The taste is a blend of green apples, pineapples, bananas and a crisp wheat edge. Theres also some noble hop sea air in there. The mouthfeel is creamy and thick with carbonation.

This is a decent and very fruity hefeweizen. While its not as complex as some, its still an eminently refreshing hefe.

Appearance - Cloudy. Two fingers of head, which reduced slowly.

Smell - Strong, with banana and cinnamon the main odours.

Taste - Very typical of a Hefe, nutmeg and cinnamon balanced with a light banana flavour. Just about as good as Weihenstephaner in this category.

Mouthfeel - Good carbonation level and aftertaste.

Drinkability - Very refreshing and easy to drink.

Overall - Almost as good overall as Weihenstephaner, and significantly cheaper at my local bottle shop. I can see this becoming one of my favourites.

Yumm. I love this Hefe because it's good and available. After pouring into a hefe glass there was a substantial and persistent head, cloudy but not opaque. Initial aromas were on the clovey side which is OK but I really like the banana flavour of Hefeweizen and it took some time to kick in. On reflection the slightly repressed banana kept me looking for it and adding to the interest. A more complex hefe might have some citrus and vanilla notes as well but this one is pretty good and true to style. It's also good value. Heavy carbonation prevented cloying and didn't detact from great drinkablity. A great session hefeweizen. Yumm.

500ml Bottle poured into Schofferhofer Weizen glass.

A - Deep peach colour, Large ice cream like frothy head, lively beading.

S - Bananas and vanilla

T - Banana flavours come through with hints of vanilla however quickly dissapates into a very watery finish

M - A little thin compared to some other hefe's. Very lively carbonation with medium body.

D - A run of the mill hefe, a sweet vanilla like aftertaste lingers after a glassful. The lively carbonation makes this a little uncomfortable if a few of these were consumed.

The trusty Schöfferhofer is really good value at $19 a six pack, when singles of Schneider are $7 and Erdinger's at least $6. Reliable - doesn't vary much in flavour. Appearance is good - strong dense white head sticks around, carbonation great, colour is a rusty yellow, spot on for a Hefe. Smell is overwhelmingly overripe banana, and a few other aromas, nothing too complex but nice, and appropriate. Taste is predominantly thirst-quenching - it's not a rich melange of curious flavours but it's refreshing, tasty, and goes with anything that's not too potent. I had it with some Wensleydale cheese and marinated artichokes today and that was a great combination. Kalamata olives were too powerful in flavour, as was some ashed Tasmanian goat's cheese. Right now I'm having it on it's own and it's delicious.

Mouthfeel is a little thin but undistracting. Better hefes have more to them, and the wateriness of this refreshing beer is noticeable. Still leaves a damn nice taste in your mouth though. As for drinkability - at this price, you can't do better. I had two this afternoon, my girlfriend had one, and I've just had three delicious Schöffers in a row and wish I had another six to enjoy. This isn't the first and definitely not the last time I've had this beer. It's extremely good value for money and every last beer is rewarding. Best value for money Hefe I've had in Australia - with the different beer taxes in Germany, I may find another favourite. Overall, a splendid brew.

Bought at Bert's Bier Huis

Poured into a weizen glass

APPEARANCE: Deep yellow golden orange and is very opaque. No carbonation evident. White medium-sized head looks medium thick and levels off into a thin film. Leaves some lacing.

SMELL: Wheat malt and some clove and banana undertones in the background. Very nice and strong; makes a statement.

TASTE: Wheat malt, clove in the background, and some of the nice banana characteristics in the background. I missed the lemon parts though. No strong aftertaste at all. Very nice.

PALATE: Medium body, goes down creamy smooth and finishes pretty dry for a weizen. No bite and the carbonation is in good balance. An excellent feel for this style of beer. Nice job.

OVERALL: An excellent all-round weizen. I didn't know what to expect from this one, but was pleasantly surprised. This one will definitely feature again.

Bottle from the LCBOm best before April 1, 2012. Into my Schneider Weisse glass.

Pours an opaque golden orange, with some lighter browns intermingled throughout. Turbulent carbonation that produces a head that fails to settle for quite some time. Fluffy offwhite head and some webbed lace. Nose is fairly standard for a hefe, banana and some wheaty grain. Some light spicing, mild citrus zest. Nothing out of place, and pretty straightforward (and pleasant) for the style. Taste leads with the banana and wheat again, the wheat having a particularly 'sharp' character (couldn't think of a better way to describe it), likely accentuated by the prevalent clove notes. Some mild citrus in the mouth as well. Mouthfeel is relatively full, with a moderate carbonation. This one went down surprisingly easy and was quite nice.

Tasted on tap in Frankfurt airport in a traditional wheat beer glass.

A - Color is medium gold. Cloudy, but still lets light through. Thick, white head. Massive lacing.

S - Clean wheat and pilsner grain aroma. The malt is well balanced against grassy hops and clove.

T - Clean malt and wheat flavor. Clove is muted. No banana noted. Solid hops bitterness and grassy flavor.

M - Medium to full body. Smooth and creamy feel. Prickly carbonation. Light alcohol presence.

O - This is a very cleanly made and balanced Weizen. Surprising creaminess and low yeast esthers make this stand out from the crowd for me.

Sampled on tap at Solber Fäss'je in Frankfurt.

This hefeweizen poured a cloudy, golden color with creamy, white foam that settled but left lace on the glass. The smell was mild banana and wheat with some yeast. The taste was mild banana, malt, and yeast with a slight sweetness. The body was medium and the carbonation good. There was a tanginess and a pleasant banana and mild caramel flavor that lingered. This was a good hefeweizen fresh near the source.

It has a golden orange body with a lot of haze at first that slows down to a moderate haze. The creamy head has some good staying power. When it does start go it makes a great lace. The flavor is bread like and yeasty giving is a spicy clove taste and aroma. There are fruit banana and citrus esters. The mouthfeel is smooth although there is some carbonation bite. A full bodied beer.

A: Cloudy light orange-colored with an enormous white thick compact creamy head. Extremly slow dissipation leaves very rich lacings and a nice crater.

S: Wheat, ripe bananas. Some sweet malt. Spices and yeast together with citric notes.

T: A nice balance between the sweet and the spice. Ripe bananas, not to sweet. Wheat. Citric notes and perhaps some bitterhops.

M: Aftertaste is surprisingly long, sweet at first and then bitter. Body is light and carbonation is moderate. Refreshing.

D: A nice Hefeweizen that's a bit drier than others. Not bad, not bad at all.

Served on a Mug at WOB's Oktoberfest. Review from notes.

A: typical Hefe in appearance. Cloudy golden/amber body with small foamy white head. No lacing present.

S: slight banana and wheat features along with a sweet fruity aroma. Very nice but a bit faint unfortunately.

T: this beer is yummy. It has a very strong fruit presence with banana leading the way followed by peaches. Wheat and clove notes are found in the taste as well.

M: very smooth and very drinkable. Medium carbonation with light to medium body.

O: a very appropriate Hefe for the occasion, as this one is a bit more light and on the drinkable side. Very good banana taste, makes for a good fest beer.
