look: 4.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.25 | overall: 3.75

Appearance: Pours a cloudy honey color with an impressively characteristic German head; nice retention and lacing action

Smell: Banana bread, clove and coriander tones

Taste: Banana bread, clove and coriander, right up front, with a touch of vanilla building; grainy, wheat tones add a bit of a tart character in the finish

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body; somewhat creamy but rather flabby for the style

Overall: Nice flavors but not in the top echelon with the more famous German hefes; the mouthfeel just isn't there, either

Poured into a wiezen glass. Pours a hazy medium golden amber. Nice two finger coarse head with moderate retention, leaving nice lacing. Aroma of wheat, banana, light fruit and clove. Taste is citric wheat with light malt and wheat. Finish is rather dry with light citrus and a light hops and clove bite. Somewhat subdued flavors with wheat dominating; dryer and less fruit flavors than other hefeweizens. Nicely carbonated, contributing to a medium, above average body for a hefeweizen. An interesting different take on the style.

A: The beer is hazy yellow in color and has a two finger high white head that slowly died down leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface. There is a moderate amount of carbonation.
S: There are aromas of bananas and bubble gum in the nose.
T: The taste has flavors of banana, bubble gum and wheat along with some hints of clove.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate, rather smooth and has a moderate to high amount of carbonation.
D: The beer is very thirst quenching and is quite refreshing. This would definitely be a good beer to drink on a hot summer day.

A - Peachy orange in colour, hazy and quite effervescent.
S - Quite fruity with tastes of bananas and oranges coming from the yeastines.
T - Yeasty at first, then rather sweet. Tastes of orange and citrus and largely banana. A quick finish, quite a nice Weizen, but a little sweet.
M - Medium body, a bit heavy for a Weizen. Lots of carbonation.
D - Quite good, very refreshing summer beer.

A- Cloudy gold body with a huge, fluffy white head that fades to a lasting film.

S- Wheat and banana dominate the nose with some subtle yeasty notes as well.

T- Some wheaty and malt flavors start it off, and a little bit of spice comes in. A mineral and yeasty base kinda dominate though. Semi-sweet overall. The banana is very sublte. Not a lot going on overall, a little on the bland side.

M- Medium body with a creamy, smooth feel. Good carbonation level.

D- Not overly sweet, leaves no lingering taste and goes down so well.

This poured to a nice light gold and yellow color, with a large head that lasted well. A thick lace looks good too.

The taste has a light grain feel, along with hints of banana. The smell is highlights the etsers. The mouthfeel is pretty solid, and it's easy to drink.

Picked up a single at EuroMarket in Astoria for $2. It poured a murky amber with a short white head. Mmm, there's a nice juicy aroma and flavor with a mix of banana and orange peel. There's a mild spice and smooth bready undertone. The clove is mild and pleasant, but the flavors seems to drop out toward the finish. You might say it's too clean for a hefe, but I like it. The banana notes ar especially tasty without going over the top or dominating the beer. Give this a try.

hazy gold with a thick creamy head that laces a bit on the way down the glass.
lots of bread, creamy citrus, soft banana, some clove and a little tiny bit of a licorice make up the aroma.
a slightly tart under ripe banana and grainy wheat dominate the taste for the most part, followed by bread, citrus, and then clove towards the back to accompany the bitterness. fairly balanced and not overly sweet, if not a little muted.
fuller medium body, with active carbonation that seems to fizz itself out and flatten quickly. not flat by any means, there is just a bigger contrast than usual in my opinion.
good drinkability, for a solid and pretty tasty middle of the road hefe.

oddly for a beer which is so impressively cloudy the taste itself is quite tart and sharp. A long lasting white head lurks on top of a beer that hides whatever is on the other side of the glass. Refreshing wheat flavour with little to no lingering bitterness and a tingle to the tongue as it goes down.

This is sort of a different, more smooth, less "pungently yeasty" take on a Hefeweizen which, in my opinion, is a nice take on a Hefeweizen. Poured glowing orange with a nice high head with little retention after about a minute. Smooth wheaty taste with a slippery mouthfeel. Very very very drinkable.

This pours with a big head from my over vigorous pours. Eventually settles down to a half finger which lingers. It's cloudy and dark golden.

The nose - there are some bananas in there trying to get out but it seems a bit dumb for a hefe.

The bananas come through a lot more on the palate.

Medium to high carbo rounds it out in the mouth.

Plenty of length and a good zingy bitterness.

Served in a 0.5 liter ad hoc hefeweizen glass.

Appearance - light orange, cloudy, two fingers of head, nice carbonation helps with the retention (half a finger nearly all the way down)

Smell - Light citrus and orange, with a hint of grass. All in all, not much of a smell; in my opinion, the weak spot of this beer.

Taste - banana and orange, touch of nutmeg, light bitter aftertaste. Alcohol a tad too present, but still very drinkable.

Mouthfeel - rather creamy but not thick

Drinkability - enjoyable and drinkable, you can easily have a couple of these although the alcohol feels a bit too present for only 5% abv. All in all a good enjoyable hefeweizen.

500ml bottle, best before December 2012.

This beer pours a misty, yet bright, medium golden amber, with three fingers of slick, shiny white whipped egg yolk head, which settles at an agreeable canter, leaving some ambitious geologic arches of lace around a portion of the glass.

It smells of grainy wheat malt, banana muffin, mild lemon oil, earthy clove, and subtle musty hops. The taste is fruity wheat, further mild banana esters, a bit of yeast, pleasantly muddled spice - I get more clove and some pepper, mostly, with a soft earthy dryness rounding things out.

The carbonation is a tad zesty at first, but drifts into a more somniferous state soon enough, the body a decent medium weight, no more, no less, and adequately smooth. It finishes off-dry, yes, but between the edgy, spicy wheat, and the latent ambiguous hops, it's not by much.

An enjoyable, fruity, well-balanced hefeweizen, which really has no problem showcasing what the wheat can do for you.

Looks the part with a bright, golden orange body and a creamy, ample 2 finger head. Nose reveals the typical banana notes mixed with some clove and spice. A bit of huskiness there too. The flavour is true to style but a touch lacking. A little watery at the back. Doesn't have the same creamy smoothness you find with some other top German hefs. Good, not great.

Schofferhofer hefeweizen

Served on tap in Berlin while resting for a shopping stop. Served at a nice cool temperature into a shofferhoffer hefeweizen glass.

Appearance- nice hazy golden orange color with two and a half fingers of fluffy white head, that dissipated surprisingly quickly. Still glorious in its appearance.

Smell- the usual banana and clove aromas, although more subdued than in other hefeweizens.

Taste - nice full blend of banana and clove with hints of orange although more subdued than others in the style.

Mouthfeel - full and creamy, well carbonated but not to an extreme point and clean satisfying finish, that is not dry.

Overall - a fine representative of the style, very enjoyable, although maybe a half echelon below the likes of hacker pschorr and Schneider Weisse and a full tier below weihenstephaner and ayinger's hefes.

Appearance: Darkish cloudy orange, that reminded me of peach juice. Large off-white head with great retention.

Smell: Banana is evident from a few feet away. Pineapple, peach, citrus, biscuity malt.

Taste: Very fruity - pineapple, peach, banana gives a creamy taste to a subdued bready malt... like drinking beer bread

Feel: Somewhat flat tasting... not crisp like I expect hefes.

A: Pours a bright yellow-orange, cloudy to the point of opaque but with some visible carbonation; has the usual billowy, long-lasting head of dense white foam which settles to a healthy cap and leaves loads of frothy lacing.

S: Wheat malts with a biscuity hint, fresh banana bread, yeast aromas, hints of cloves and cinnamon, and a citric but especially lemony note.

T: Robust, wheaty, and slightly biscuity malts are quickly joined by clove and brown spice overtones and a citrus taste, the lemon less pronounced than in the nose. It all combines in a sort of banana bread flavour towards the finish, balanced by faint herbal hops.

M: Medium-bodied with champagne-like carbonation - lower than in other Weizen, but still lending lively crispness. Refreshing and well-balanced on the whole.

D: Schoefferhofer makes a good, solid Weizen, but it wasn't too remarkable besides the biscuit malt notes.

A - poured a one finger head - fine sticky lacing - cloudy orange wheat colour

S - sour - wheat - banana - orange - no spiciness

T - malt and wheat - banana and citrus - good but not exceptional - the flavors are present but not bursting out - missing a clove spiciness I like for the style - nicely balanced bitterness

M - medium carbonation - refreshing bitterness in the aftetaste with just the right amount of tingling in the mouth - a little sour as well

O - decent Hefe that one could session on a nice hot afternoon on the deck - not the best Hefe I have had and not overly complex but still very good

The beer is clouded amber, has an off-white head that leaves little lacing, but some curtains.

The smell is fruity, spicy and yeasty, banana, oranges, cardamom, clove.

Starting with sweet wheat bread, banana, oranges, cardamom and clove spiciness.

Medium high carbonation, a fresh feeling, almost coarse and a slightly dry finish.

A fresh and refreshing crisp Weizen (less citric than on tap last year).

Poured from a 50cl bottle into a 50cl tall glass.

A - Very cloudy dark golden colour. About a finger of head.

S - Banana, pear and peach. Slightly tangy.

T - Fairly smooth at first but with a bitter and slightly sour aftertaste following very closely. Soothing on the way down. Typical wheat and various fruits in the taste.

M - Quite bitey on the tongue. Bitter and sour at the back of the mouth.

D - Enjoyable and fairly easy to drink.

A solid wheat beer if not mind-blowing. Has enough variety to keep you interested but isn't overly complex so can be consumed without any trouble.

Arrives a straw-grapefruit blend in color. Completely cloudy yet translucent, it almost looks lit from behind. Good lace for a hefeweizen.
Smell is somewhat restrained but notes of malt, cloves, bananas, and yeast. Well balanced.
Taste is more forward than the nose with the same malty backbone carrying bananas, clove, nutmeg, yeast and vanilla notes. Very good balance. Good complexity.
Medium bodied with a pronounced and tangy effervescence. Drying from the middle on. A mere whiff of warming late. Well done.

I had this with a pig's leg dinner in Frankfurt. These are the memories that keep me thinking of when I can get back to Germany again, the food is exceptional for a carnivore.

The beer was poured from a 0.5L bottle into a weisse glass, and showed a hazy pale orange color with a big frothy head on top. The aromas were all the standard yeast bu-products in a good weizen, bananas and floral aromas. The taste was nicely fruity as well, but had a noticeable bitter bite at the end. I've had 2 endings to weisse beers in Germany, buttery or bitter. My current tastes run towards the buttery more than the bitter, but neither one is entirely appreciated by me. Good thick mouthfeel helped the drinkability somewhat, but not enough as the bitter after-taste limited my thirst for another.

Served on-tap in branded weizen glass at 12 Apostles in Savignyplatz neighborhood of Berlin, Germany.

A: Creamy gold-yellow with tall 1-2 finger off-white head with nice retention and lacing down the glass.

S: Banana and clove are there but pretty light in comparison to others in the style. Herbal hopping is light.

T: The wheaty tanginess is more pronounced and melds well with the herbal hops and banana esters and clove components. It is an above-average weissbier but a very enjoyable brew enjoyed with friends.

M: Creamy and thick like the good examples of the style. Freshness no doubt helps in this category.

O: I liked this brew and it was a great accompaniment to great company to finish off a fantastic trip to Berlin.
