Nothing special here and unfinishable. At least the L.C.B.O. didn't bring it in cans. Watery minimal taste with enormous bulk of head, that would not go away. Sour milk aroma, the yeast and wheat just didn't add value. This was a fresh bottle. Some malt, didn't work for me.

Hazy apricot colour with a good-sized head to start, minimal retention and lace.

Faint aroma of banana, somewhat soapy. Smoky or burned flavour, gently metallic aftertaste. Weak kneed throughout.

Nothing special, has some offputting flavour notes. Awkward metallic finish.

.5L, Germany, best by 6/11.

Great pour. Classic cloudy straw-orange, with a very healthy head. I got it to tower a half-inch above the glass in it's creamy glory. Good lacing, but a few clumps of yeast prevent a perfect score for appearance.

Nose is muffled, but there're hints of yeast, band-aids and ripe fruit.

Flavor is, unfortunately, not very good. Hefeweizens are supposed be lightly sweet and fruity, yet this beer has a bitter and medicinal quality. Bready, yeasty flavors are apparent, but there's no banana or fruit. Mouthfeel was well-carbonated, but the finish and feel were average due to the borderline harsh flavors.

Not a good Hefeweizen in my opinion. The appearance is classic, but the beer itself is disappointing.

Appearnace: Murky orange with a large creamy head.

Smell: Cloves and citrus are both nice and strong.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Hearty clove flavor with a hint of banana, and some bitternes. The aftertaste is somewhat metallic, and unpleasant. The mouthfeel is semi-thick with nice carbonation.

Drinkability: This hefe is average at best. If it weren't for the bad aftertaste I would probably drink this again, but being as it is I don't plan on it.

This bottle was hidden away when I held a Bavarian evening for friends of the wife (I thought it looked interesting and I hadn't drank it before), someone brought 3 of them, so I didn't feel bad about stashing away one.

3 weeks later, I poured it into a Franziskaner weissbier glass and all looked well. In fact it looked great, the aroma was also fine, bannanas and vanilla filled my head, but sadly the excitement stopped there. Very soon the head dissappeared, along with the aromatic flavours, nothing replaced them.

The taste was poor for what in was expecting, this is not a sparkling hefeweissbier with an attitude, maybe Frankfurt should leave the style to the boys down south in Bavaria, because I was not impressed at all. Yes, the yeast was there, but it was not strong enough to carry it off, in my opinion.

-A very sessionable hefeweizen if drank cold
-Subdued banana and clove compared to others of this style
-As it warms, some metallic harshness comes though
-Maybe fermented a little too cold (or fermented with a strain that throws off too few phenols) for my liking

500ml bottle best before 07.11.

It pours a cloudy orange with a smooth, but mountiany white head that leaves a thick wall of lacing.

The smell is malty with a lot of wheat. It has a light lemony note over that and just a hint of clove.

The flavor is kind of uninteresting, it is wheaty with a bit of clove and sugar. There is a citrus characteristic but it just comes of as bland.

Overall a very mediocre Hefeweizen.

Unfortunatly, I found this brew to be less than impressive.
It started out very well having arrived with a full 3 finger crown with extremly lively carbonation.
The colour is a very dull yellow and a little cloudy.
The initial aroma was of yeast followed by a sour fruitiness.
The taste has this sour/sweet/sour thing going for it but that is very short lived, leaving a dry lemony cardboard reminder to end.

Light oranged, quite carbonated, and a big hat of foam, even if not too compact.
Sweet banana in the smell; then there are also some cloves, and a ligth spiciness: orange peel. Pleasant.
Sweet malt in the taste, yeast, wheat, but again a banana a bit too strong.
In the aftertaste too, though after some while, some cloves and again the orange peel.
Quite sweetish, with "strawberry" hints?

I tried this beer when I was at Brauhaus with Paul, Andre and KK. It was a pretty
disappointing Hefe, I have to confess. It pours out a nice cloudy golden with a nice head
The first part of the taste was a refreshing and nice though a little too light wheat taste.
But what followed was a taste analagous to white board markers! This taste prolongs into the
after taste as well which made it really bad for me. The only salvaging part of it was the
refreshing hefe typicality which we see in every hefes on the market. However this part of it
was apparently only felt by me as the 3 of them begged to differ; different taste buds, I
guess.
(Disclaimer: I did not have enough of this beer to write a review. This review is based on
what I feel from what I have tasted and I am writing it because I probably would not be
having this beer again.)

Pours a hazy golden colour with a white head, not much retention, and minimal lacing. Watery taste with not a lot going on save a bit of yeast, there is an aroma of banana and clove, with a slight metallic aftertaste. Coats the mouth and pallet and hangs around in your mouth. I have a feeling that this beer might be different had this been on tap in Germany, but as it is, a beer that is not bad, just okay.

The appearance is deep gold with some hazing and a nice head. The smell is malty and lightly spicy with a touch of clove and bubble gum but hardly enough of it. Not to mention there is no banana. The taste is like the aroma and isn't bad. It tastes alright but it does not taste like a hefe. The palate is right for the style. Overall it's quite drinkable but it's not true to the style.

Hazy amber/straw colour topped by a thin, but dense, white head that showed good retention and lacing. Aroma of cloves, lemon and malty sweetness. This is over-hopped for my tastes, with a sharp bitterness that lingers through the dry finish. Citrus, banana and spicy cloves attempt to round out the flavour. Light body, a bit on the thin side, with moderate carbonation.

This is probably the most widely available hefeweizen in Australia (less so when I was in the UK where Erdinger and Schneider Weisse ruled the roost).

Poured into Weizen glass, appearance cloudy, head lasts well. The expected aromas of citrus and banana are there, oh even a touch of clove, but it is not particularly aromatic. Likewise with the taste, it has all the hefe elements but is pretty average. It improves as it warms, with a nice moderately lasting bananary finish emerging. Mouthfeel is creamy although the carbonation is a bit too strong and distracting from the already elusive flavours.

Overall, this is a rather mediocre wheat beer compared with other German exports. There's certainly nothing wrong with it, but it lacks the full taste and aroma that others offer.

Bottle BB 10/06/2011 poured into a tall wheat beer glass.

A: Pale yellow and not very cloudy at all. Nice lacing though.
S: Light banana and clove atop a bit of raw wheat
T: Thin and light flavours, mainly of banana though a bit of clove played through. A bit of chewy wheat came though
M: Viscous and gummy. The only enjoyable thing of this beer
D: Mouthfeel saves this one, though it is nothing special.

500ml/16.9oz. bottle with a pumpkin colored label with the name of the beer in black old school italics. Above the name are three gold coins with the man himself, Schöfferhofer in the larger middle coin. At the bottom are two flags with the letters "A" and "X" in them and with somebody's signature over them. The back label has the word "beer" and the ingredients in about 100 different languages. At bottom in a gold rectangle is a born on and a best before date. My bottle was born on 14 Jan 2009 with a best before date of 14 Jan 2010.

I wish I had a Weizen glass available for this beer, but I only had a pint glass at my disposal. This Weizen poured the usual hazy lemon yellow color. Nothing all that special about that, but on top was the type of head of foam that makes keep coming back to the Hefeweizen style. On top was a 1+ inch pure as the driven snow fluffy as a kitten head of foam. This head of foam had great retention that left behind a number of clingy spots and streaks of white lace around the glass. Liked the color, but loved that head of foam.

This Hefeweizen absolutely loved the scent of malted wheat. It loved it so much that everything else was very subtle. Behind the malted wheat was a subtle whiff of ripe banana and cloves. If they had increased those two scents, that would have been a nice treat. After the two subtle aromas, the aroma finishes up with a dry scent of citrus fruits. Not bad, but it could have lowered the scent of the malted wheat to let the other aromas shine a little bit more.

The aroma was pretty much the same as the taste. That's too bad! The taste kicked off with a big rich taste of malted wheat. This malted wheat will then roll into an extremely subtle taste of banana and cloves. After that, the beer will suddenly finish up with a dry taste of black pepper and citrus fruits. The taste was only average at best. The malted wheat level was fine, but where are all the spices, banana, and cloves. I don't know, but this taste sure needed them.

This was a light bodied Hefeweizen with more than enough carbonation to keep you entertained and a dry malted wheat aftertaste. Tied into the wheat was was a subtle pinch of cloves and banana.

It's not a bad Hefeweizen, bit I've had quite a few better German Hefeweizens in my time. If you're a fan of real German Hefeweizens, then it's probably best you stay clear of this one. It was mostly all about the malted wheat with nothing much backing it up.

500ml bottle from Aldi.

Looks like pineapple juice with a head. There are hints of pineapple and banana along with oodles of chalk in the nose.

Surprisingly tangy and sweet to begin, reminding me of bubble gum. The yeast takes a very long time to make itself apparent and even then isn't particularly significant. Could do with a little more hop bite to give it some edge.

It pours a light apricot/orange colour, and the head is very insubstantial. It only forms a small layer on top of the beer. It is slightly hazy, but less hazy than a typical hefeweizen.

The aroma is dominated by citrus and a bit of yeast. It smells quite refreshing, and some light malted wheat aroma mellows out the sharp citrus notes.

The flavour is light and fragrant with a hint of hop bitterness. It doesn't have a strong malt backbone, but is slightly sweet towards the end. It is very bubbly as it rolls across the tongue, and on the thin side.

Overall, it's highly drinkable. However, not an expecially great hefeweizien.

Poured a golden amber, little haze but not as much as I like in a weissbier. Smell was almost non existant, a little bit of malt and spice but the banana wasn't really there, had kind of a weak lagery smell. Taste was pretty bland, little yeastiness and some wheat, definately not very weiss. Mouthfeel was medium, as was the carbonation and was pretty smooth, disappointing though.

500 ml bottle from the LCBO BB 01 04 12
Served into a Hoegaarden Glass.

A- Foggy yellowish color with an explosive head of sticky white foam.

S- Quite fruity and yeasty with aromas of fresh melon, some citrus, and sugary malts also present in the nose.

T- Malty sweet with a touch of honey and vanilla, banana, cardamom, some citrus, Bread and grains, Tangy Metallic finish, bitterness in the end.

M- Fairly sweet, medium body, syrupy a bit.

D- Decent

Overall some good flavors in this beer but it just doesn't quite come together and its a tad too sweet and sugary for my liking. The price of the beer doesn't sit well either as you can find Hefeweizens of better quality for the same price if not better in some cases.

Throughout the entire bottle it just felt as if something was off or I got a badly unbalanced bottle...I will be re-reviewing.

The colour is orange-yellow; the liquid is hazy. The finger thick head dissolves slowly, leaving some fine lacing.

The smell is yeasty and sour in a fresh way. It is dryer than most of the Weizen I have reviewed so far. Some notes of apples, apricots and a hint of cream flavoured candy.

The taste is overall milder and less sour than I had expected. It is more “creamy” than “sour”. There are notes of green apples, sweet fruit candy and a hint of toffee. The mild aftertaste got some sourish and fruity flavours; it is short and rather anonymous.

The carbonation is a little milder than others of this style, the bubbles are very small. The liquid is creamy – almost thick.

A mild and prudent Weißbier. It is probably better paired whit some hot food than on its own.

Mellow hazy peach-nectarine body with a soft, fluff of white head. Light clove aromas mix with banana bread. Definitely a hefe, but there's a faint metallic smell that detracts. A: Slightly more amber than most; perhaps a higher malt:wheat ratio? Plenty of hefe to provide the appropriate murky appearance. Nice head, but poor retention, no lacing.

S: Not a lot of odour... just a little cloves.

T: Earthy cloves fading to a citrous flavour, with a slight tang. Taste is a little maltier than average. Not a lot of fruity esters... where's the banana?

M: Light body, moderate carbonation.

D: The flavours are very subdued... perfectly drinkable by any shmoe... not as refreshing as most, but an easy session beer.

Poured from a bottle with a best before date of 11/23/05

Poured a golden brown with a puffy white head. Not cloudy like most beers of this type. Smell is rather dull, doesn't smell like much really. Taste is a little bland, it tastes like a weak pilsener more than anything else, if anything i'd consider it refreshing more than anything, since it does hit the spot in that sense. Mouthfeel is unoffensive and smooth actually, and this is actually quite drinkable. This does not resemble any Hefe Weizen i've ever had, it resembles more of a Dark Lager/Pilsener more than anything else
