Appearance: Cloudy, orange color with a huge fluffy head that lingers quite a while with chunky lacing.

Aroma: Slightly toasted malt, a little bready, a little grainy, yeasty, some spice and some cooked veggies.

Taste: Grainy up front, faint hints of spice, lots of cooked veggies, a little tart and some mild lemon bitterness on the finish.

The Rest: Didn't notice the best-by date of 1/10/14 on this one when I bought it, so it's a bit past it's prime. That being said, not a great Hefe. If you have given this to me in a glass and told me it was a euro lager, I wouldn't have questioned it..

Schofferhofer hefeweizen

Served on tap in Berlin while resting for a shopping stop. Served at a nice cool temperature into a shofferhoffer hefeweizen glass.

Appearance- nice hazy golden orange color with two and a half fingers of fluffy white head, that dissipated surprisingly quickly. Still glorious in its appearance.

Smell- the usual banana and clove aromas, although more subdued than in other hefeweizens.

Taste - nice full blend of banana and clove with hints of orange although more subdued than others in the style.

Mouthfeel - full and creamy, well carbonated but not to an extreme point and clean satisfying finish, that is not dry.

Overall - a fine representative of the style, very enjoyable, although maybe a half echelon below the likes of hacker pschorr and Schneider Weisse and a full tier below weihenstephaner and ayinger's hefes.

Attractive beer with large head, nice cloudy orange colour and vigorous carbonation.

Aroma is of bananas and cloves. Not a strong smell but fairly inviting.

The taste is slightly sweet with banana notes. There is some bitterness and a yeasty presence. Well balanced and highly thirst quenching. There aren't any noticeable spicy or complex notes to this and the pleasant aromas nd flavours are too mild for my liking.

Mouthfeel is crisp and palate cleansing.

Overall this is just an ok hefe. It's good but Weihenstephaner or Hacker Pschorr' hefes are more interesting. Great bottle design on this one though!

I would mark this beer 75 out of 100.

Poured from 330mL bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: medium-light golden hue, with enough haze to disguise the effervescence. Head pours a thick finger of pillowy white foam. Not bad.

Smell: aroma has a strong banana character, over a little bit of clove and refreshing wheat. The banana is almost artificial -- I'd liken it to banana Runts. Still -- I must say I quite enjoy it.

Taste: more of that banana and clove right off the bat; it's much more smooth and subdued than in the aroma. A slightly grainy wheat flavor characterizes the finish. But, boy, that banana -- shazam!

Mouthfeel: medium body with a strong carbonation and nice creaminess for the style. Actually, I quite enjoy it.

Overall: evidently I like this beer a lot more than average. I must say, I'm a fan of sweet, banana-ey German hefeweizens. So ... this beer is for me!
