A; Mildly hazy copper in color. Forms a large, fluffy white head that slowly reduces down to a patchy surface coating and a thick ring around the edge. Some nice lacing.

S: Aroma is citrus forward. Mostly orange with a touch of floral.

T: Taste is full of graininess. A bit bready. A bit toasty. But it's more like toasted grains or whole wheat grains. Hops come through as the beer warms. Much like the aroma, the hops are citrus forward with notes of orange and to a lesser extent, grapefruit.

M: Medium bodied. Medium carbonation. Moderate bitterness. Mildly prickly.

O: I really didn't care for this beer too much on the front end. It did improve as it warmed, but I still felt something was off with it. Whereas East Coast IPAs tend to be malty and bready, this one, while still being hoppy, was oddly grain-focused. In the end, it just didn't work for me.

650 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Hazy deep orange. Big white head. Thick surface foam and great retention. Sticky lacing.

Smell - Musty. Some orange hops. Smells sweet. Something slightly funky.

Taste - Orange citrus hops. Sweet pale malts. Some sweet caramel. Musty. Lingering sweetness. Medium bitterness. A hint of astringency.

Mouthfeel - A little too sweet and heavy. Medium carbonation.

Overall - Not a big fan. Too sweet for me. Not enough flavorful to justify it.

The taste of the Northwest is in good hands with Gigantic Brewing Company. Capturing the citrusy and herbal essence that make the region's hops so zesty manifests in their flagship IPA for a friendly and fruity taste.

Light amber in color, the highlights of gold and orange capture the beer's hazy character. Its unadulterated appearance quickly separates froth from beer as a creamy eggshell-white foam coats the surface with great retention. As the ale fades, it speckles the glass with random lacing.

Bright aromas of hops dominate the nose. Citrusy grapefruit and freshly zested oranges are the main culprits while more floral orange blossom and honeysuckle follow closely behind. Its light honey and thin caramel character seem to give the fruit a juicy boost while more herbal and grassy elements arise heading into taste.

Its faint sweetness greets the tongue with the light grainy sweetness of caramel, biscuit and honey. Sweetness turns dry as the middle palate introduces sharp grapefruit and orange peel, in all their tangy glory. Then as the ale trends even drier and bitter, its light grassy, chivy, and herbal flavors trail in aftertaste.

Medium bodied, the beer's early sweetness and creamy carbonation promotes more a more moderate mouthfeel. But a quick drying delivers acute citrus pith bitterness and mild alcohol warmth with light vegetative astringency lingering just behind the resinous bitterness.

With a slightly more elevated "tangy" citrus character, the ale's smooth bitterness, drier tone and short-lived malt sweetness really hits home the taste that makes Northwest ales so delicious (minus the taste or aroma of the hippies).

A: Very orange, with little head. The appearance almost foreshadows the citrusy taste.
S: Hoppy, beery, good.
T: Biting citrus with an almost floral background, fading to warm booziness. Orange peels and hops and alcohol and goodness.
M: The kind of tart that makes one red in the face. Smooth, not thick, not watery. The carbonation and bitterness leave a tang on the tip of the tongue.
O: A very good beer. Refreshing, drinkable, and a great every day IPA. Bottle bears cute shout-outs to Portland with a reference to The Simpsons (the taste "embiggens" with every drink) and to Reed College, across the street from the brewery (Reed's mascot the Doyle Owl).
