22oz bottle - yup, sure sounds like a strong dark Belgian ale to me, despite the marketing objections to the contrary. Sigh.
This beer pours a clear, dark mahogany amber colour, with three fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat bubbly beige head, which leaves some decaying Hoodoo formation profile lace around the glass as it quickly sinks away.
It smells of gritty and grainy caramel malt, a bit of biscuity crackers, rather well-behaved Belgian yeast, brown sugar syrup, ethereal tanned leather, a faint black stone fruitiness, and very tame earthy, musty, and floral noble hop bitters. The taste is grainy and bready caramel malt, a muddled Yuletide spiciness, some laid-back Mediterranean fruity notes, a fading Low Countries yeastiness, and more banal earthy, leafy, and herbal hoppiness.
The carbonation is quite meek in its barely-there frothiness, the body a so-so medium weight, and mostly smooth, as the sugary character goes the long mile here. It finishes well off-dry, said maltiness holding the key to the lingering, um, reason?
Overall - yeah, this is not exactly the sleekest or most complex version of the style, but I give it points for a certain new world earnestness, one which I find lacking in most examples of such. Not much in way of booze intransigence either, for that matter, which makes for a heady, and generally enjoyable nightcap.

22oz bottle ordered from BeerShip.com. 9.49. No bottle date but if this site is correct, it was a one time release in early 2013. Served in a goblet.
Pours a ruddy mahogany with a finger and a half of yellowish tan head. The bubbles slowly fade to a thin halo and leave only ocassional dots of lace.
Smells of dark fruit, caramel, bready malts, brown sugar and a fairly mild Belgian yeast.
Taste follows the nose. Figs, plums, brown sugar, raisin bread, caramel, chocolate, toast, apple skins, woodsy note, clove, earthy tobacco, a little leather and some booze back there popping in and out between everything else. A pretty good blend overall.
Creamy medium body with soft but ample carbonation. Just a tad thin for the style. Dark fruit, caramel, chocolate and mild yeast linger in the long aftertaste.
A petite quad, eh? Fairly complex and hitting all the typical stylistic notes at somewhere around seventy to eighty percent. An enjoyable brew for sure but I'd probably prefer if they'd boost it to a full blown quad.

Poured from a bomber into a chalice, the beer is a hazy, opaque, dark caramel-amber coloring with a filmy, sparse, light, off-white surface coating of head. Aromas of rich, sweet toffee, tangy caramel, vanilla highlights, date, fig, woody notes, and some earthy notes. Very rich and sweet nose. Flavors are very tangy sweet forward, almost sugary, with hints of booze throughout. Caramel, date, fig, nut, and hints of chocolate blast the forward tongue, but the tangy sweetness blows everything else away. You do start to get some woody and earthy notes underlying the sweetness, and a little bit of building warmth from the slightly elevated ABV. Mid-bodied, but almost too light for the flavor profiles. The aftertaste is so cloyingly sweet, with the tangy caramel continuing it's reign of dominance over your taste buds. Slick, slightly oily finish, with a lingering cloying feel. This seems a bit out of balance, for me, for the style. Tasty, but could use some tweaking.
