Mondiale 2013. A very good porter. Black with almost no head, yet a lace trail. A tasty hoppy porter, nicely roasted, with good drinkability. Chocolate malt, caramel, and not overly sweet rather well balanced.Middling mouthfeel. One of my favourites over this fest.

Appearance. Pours a dark cola-brown with a finger of thick khaki head.
Smell. Light caramel and milk chocolate, some grainy dark malts.
Taste. Dark malts and milk chocolate, some grassy, maybe slightly herbal hops with a little bitterness in the finish.
Mouthfeel. Medium body, maybe slightly less with medium carbonation.
Overall. A good porter but doesn't stand out from the crowd as much as the other offering that I've tried from this fine brewery.

Near black pour, minimal near finger of tan head, fairly good retention and decent lacing. High roast, with almost burnt malt note. A Belgian dry chocolate nose, with faint bitterness and sweet nutty toffee. The taste is dominated by a dark Belgian chocolate with a dash of toffee, a stark roasted note and a hint of smoke. Finishes with a tinge of espresso bitterness. Body is medium, somewhat creamy and smooth. ABV is lower, so it feel mostly appropriate. Overall, it's pretty solid.

Poured into an Elysian snifter. Pours a very dark brown, appearing black in the glass. Fine half finger light brown head that dissipates to a thin film and ring around the glass and lacing. Light aroma of toasted malt, chocolate and and hint of coffee. Flavor follows aroma, toasted malt, chocolate and coffee. Nice toasty chocolate finish with lingering hop bitterness. Long lasting toasted malt and hops aftertaste. Medium bodied. A quite nice roasty porter that has above average flavor complexity and density for a 6% porter. Another nice Gigantic offering.

Poured from a 650ml bottle. Pours a dark brown colour. The nose has big, delicious chocolate notes. Hard to smell much more than that. It tastes like a well-made porter. Lots of roasty coffee/chocolate flavours, and a good bitter, earthy finish. It's dry and very drinkable.

Poured from a bomber into a shaker pint, the beer is a dark brown-to-black coloring with chestnut highlights and a thick, dense, frothy, foamy, light tan head that slowly settles and clings to the glass as it retreats. Aromas of chocolate, both milk and bittersweet/baker's, with a touch of mocha coffee and some roasted notes. Great, inviting nose. Flavors are roast forward, with chocolate notes in the forefront, as well, providing a good, rich blend. Bittersweet carries throughout, with an earthy and roasty overtone. Light, slightly effervesced body keeps things crisp and refreshing, not allowing the richness to lull you into a hibernative state. The aftertaste is roasty and bittersweet chocolate, with a dry, clean finish. Solid brew, and with a lean towards the chocolate, which hits me right in my sweet tooth.

650ml bottle poured into a Gigantic tulip.
The beer pours a nice black color, touches of cola brown with a fizzy khaki head that dissipates quickly leaving a slight film atop the beer with minimal lace. The aroma is of lightly roasted coffee, dark chocolate and soft and sweet coffee malt, fairly simple and very straightforward. The flavors are very simple, bitter coffee roast, slightly toasted grain, touches of chocolate and just a smidge of fruit at the finish. The body is a little lighter with crisp carbonation and an easy finish that does get a touch abrasive from the carbonation.
Verdict: Simple, straightforward, not intimidating and rather light. This is my first experience with Gigantic and while this wasn't a home run, I'd still be very interested in sampling more of their lineup.

Lightly chilled 22 oz. bottle into a shaker pint. No visible bottling or best-by date.
Look- Clear deep brown with three fingers of toasted marshmallow head. Very nice lacing.
Smell- Very interesting, unique aroma. Reminds me of beech nuts and root beer. Very appealing. Dark nougat and rum balls.
Taste- On the first sip, I almost spit this out. Thankfully, I gave it a bit and it grew on me- I'd definitely let this one hit room temp or near before imbibing. Started with a harsh, ashy, metallic flavor that mellowed out as it fell flat and warmed up a bit. After a half hour or so, some nicer flavors emerge- dry dates, heavily toasted graham cracker, strong nuttiness. Light, crisp black tea bittering cleans it up at the end. Overall-decent.
Mouthfeel- Light-medium body, smooth, juicy feel with a roasty bite. Mild coating, Dry-ish finish, goes down easy once it warms a bit.
Overall- Not quite sure what to make of it- pretty off-putting to start with, but it grew on me. More good than bad, but I'd probably avoid it if I saw it again.
