Pours a cloudy brown-tinged orange. Off-white yellow head, small bubbles. Looks as cuddly as an enraged polar bear on heat.

Good hoppy happiness in this glass. Scoops aroma from the depths of your animus, and slaps you pinewards. Resiny, malty too. A tickler.

Taste is piney, and clearly attended the school of hard penis. Caramel notes, some hops calling out the chorus from the back. Basically the same old song, but it's always nice to hear it on IPA FM.

Well built, like a Discus hurler.

Is this the real life? Is this just fantastic?

Thanks to Slatetank for sharing this one with me. It pours a golden orange to yellow color with some clarity seen around the edges and an off-white cap resting above composed of large bubbles.

The aroma on this comes across very malty with caramel/toffee sweetness before the onset of hops with floral notes blending to a sort of orange liquor. Grassy herbs and a hint of cheese are the last things noted.

The taste has a touch of biscuit grain to toffee before getting bitter with herbs, grass, pine and some solvent alcohol. It displays almost a dirty, rindy melon feel to the finish which I was not crazy about - either driven by yeast or some strange hopping, im not sure. Peculiar that this a DIPA yet the profile seems more malty than hoppy.

This is medium to fuller bodied with a moderate level of carbonation. Really a peculiar offering that smells like it us going to be very malty and has just enough hops to break that up. It does have a creeping alcohol inclusion...so it has that going for it. Overall strange, I appreciate the chance to try it but would possibly pass again in the future if it was gonna cost me.

22oz bomber purchased from K&L Wine Merchants in Redwood City, CA. Shared with Sam and Rich in Sydney.

Pours a slightly hazed deep orange colour, with a properly full and thick head of yellowish white that retains well. Lots of leopard-spot lacing wherever it touches. Carbonation is fine through the deep body. Looks pretty great.

Nose is very robust and piney, with strong resinous characters coming through as the dominant aroma. There's some sweetness as well, along with a little pepper character and some preserved lemon.

Taste is clear and fine-bodied, with a whack more sweetness than I expected, and not really much of the biting bitterness I'd expect from an IPA, let alone an impy. Instead, there's a messy stewed orange character that comes through, along with barley sugar and a slightly clinging cloy. By the end, the thickest part of the sweetness evaporates a little, leaving more pleasant stonefruit characters of peach and nectarine.

Feel is decent enough, with a robust weight to the body, although this accentuates the thickness and sweetness present in the flavour.

Overall, this is okay, but not much beyond that. It's a full-bodied and full-flavoured beer, but perhaps the flavours it have aren't all that welcome in a true DIPA.

Gigantic Brewing Company - Whole In The Head, poured into a DFH Spiegelau IPA glass.

Look - Pours a hazy copper caramel with a luxurious soapy head. Lots of chunky lacing.

Smell - Some sweet caramel malt with citrus and resiny pine hop blast. Subtle for a DIPA.

Taste - Rich malty caramel followed by a low citrus hop finish. More like a smoother AIPA here.

Mouthfeel - Low carbonation. Medium-bodied. Rests slightly throat hot boozy but otherwise quite drinkable. Rests slightly pine.

Overall - Low-key DIPA in my opinion but a tasty treat nonetheless. Tried and true combination of these specific malts and hops, just not an exceptional rendition.

Poured into a tulip.

Smell - Lots of hops. Nothing too dominant. A little bit of tropical fruits, a little piney.

Appearance - A very nice golden/orange color. About an inch of think foamy head. Light lacing throughout the session.

Taste - Citrus flavors. Some mango and apricot. A lot of bitterness, but the flavors aren't coming out as much as I was expecting.

Mouthfeel - Good carbonation, the alcohol is hidden pretty well. Bitterness sticks to your mouth.

Overall - I honestly was expecting a little more out of this beer from the description. The flavors didn't pop like I wanted them too. Don't get me wrong, it's a very good beer, but nothing I would seek out again.
