Our Winter stout offering is brewed with a hefty amount of 2-Row barley, as well as Victory, Munich, and Carapils malt. We round it out with some lactose sugar and flaked oats for sweetness and body. While the hops in this beer certainly don’t play a central role, we balance all that malt with a good dose of East Kent Goldings, Fuggles, and Wilamette hops.

4/13...pours very dark black, very thin layer of modestly off white foam. Dark malt nose, hints of coffee. Some dark chocolate. Creamy milky chocolate stout, light bitter. Soft mouthfeel, can taste the lactose influence. Not overly sweet though, really well balanced.

a bit thin as less sweet than other standouts in this category, just ok fo me would chooses others over this blend...do like that this one stayed clear of the coffee flavor currently running rampant in stout genre.

Sampling a cellar temp 16 oz can poured into a snifter. Part of a trade with @brendenw7. Thanks!
The beer pours a rich mahogany color with fluffy beige head of .5 cm foaming up even with an aggressive pour. Not quite as dark of a color as I anticipated for a oatmeal milk stout, but it ok.
The aroma is some dark chocolate and a bit of roasted note, but also some general sweetness, maybe molassess. I dont get any of the hops that are mentioned on the label, but that is fine for the style.
First sip reveals a smooth texture and medium body with fine and tingly carbonation. The beer drinks very easy and is fairly coating on each swallow.
Flavor is what I expect for a milk stout, some sweet chocolate, a bit of roasted note and some brown sugar. I also get a little bit of coffee, but this is subdued in the background. Again the hop is basically non-existent. I also dont get any ABV hints which makes sense for a lower booze beer. A decent milk stout that looks a little more brown ale than I expected and is not robust in flavor, but is good. Id drink again, but wouldnt search this out.

(4 oz pour at the brewery)

Dark brown liquid; slight haze?; little foam... roast barley and chocolate syrup on the nose... roasty-sweety initial pop, coffee and molasses cookie aftertaste; bit of caramel creeps in, mildly chocolaty malt (milkshake?) builds; mellow roasty bitterness eventually takes hold... delicately rich chew to its body, but short of syrupy; substantial enough... rather American malt/yeast character here - not a flaw, but arguably generic; sip to sip, wasn't making much of an impression, though it has a good degree of intensity to its flavors (1521)

Minimal head on the pour that has a brief nitro-style cascading thing going on. Lotsa chocolate on the nose as well as a deep roastiness. Kinda smells like I imagine a coffee-flavored tootsie roll would. Taste follows, as it tends to. Lighter mouthfeel than I would like. Finishes a bit flat and dry. I like the label more than I like the beer (and the beer isn't bad).

Neshaminy Creek's Mudbank Milk Stout--Got a sixer of 16 oz. cans as a gift, and the first thing I noticed was the can art. The Snowman sledding with the squirrel on his head was cool, but the bird puking up worms threw me a bit. No matter. it's the beer inside that counts, right? And this one delivers a very solid, nicely carbonated, almost black milk stout. The mouthfeel is close to that of a porter; it's smooth as heck, probably from the oat flakes and lactose. The nose has both coffee and cocoa, and the palate shares that lactose-induced milk stout sweetness. The Goldings, Wilamette and Fuggles hops are bit players, not scene-stealers, for this comforting winter stout, as they let the malts take over. A very pleasant stout experience, and at just 6.5% ABV, more than one could be warranted. As with most quality stouts, it improved as it warmed. I know that Neshaminy Creek also offers a Coconut Milk Stout as well as an Imperial Chocolate Stout. Based on this one, my search will begin.

DATE: March 9, 2018... OCCASION: Parks and Rec Season 7 begins... GLASSWARE: Samuel Smith tulip pint... first, the four-fingered head: brown, thick, bubbly, and leaving attractive lacing across the glass... its jet-black body is dense as night... aroma is heavy on toasted oats, sweetening, and lactic milkiness that evokes chocolate hints and briny, salty sweetness... sips smoothly, with creaminess, deep and warming despite its relatively substantial 6.5% ABV... sweet chocolate and oats initiate the flavor profile--much more bitter than expected... milky, yet sweet with nougat and marshmallow... light coffee au lait wins the day, but the sweetness is a bit arresting... almost a smore in itself, a dessert beer that won't fill you up....

Poured from a tallboy can into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Nearly black pour with 2 fingers of foamy white head. Great retention and lacing.

S: Charred sugars... sweet cocoa... coffee.. and roasted grains. Mild bitterness as well.

T/F: Relatively light bodied for a stout. Well carbonated and creamy mouthfeel. Great roast character... burned sugars, marshmallows done over a flame, milk chocolate, coffee with chicory, and lactose. The sweetness is tempered by the bitter roast and mild hopping. The finish is roasted sugars and grains.

O: A really nice light dessert beer... everything as advertised and one of the best milk stouts I've had. Recommended.

Four pack copped from Bottle King in Morris Plains. Pours a jet black ebony hue with moderate frothing. Assertive aroma replete with hints of chocolate and mocha. Similar overall flavor profile.

No record of purchase location, date, or price.
Undated bottle stored at 42 degrees. Served at 50 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter.
Aroma – roasted malt, perhaps slightly burnt. Lasts.
Head average (Maximum three cm, aggressive pour), tan, average density, average retention, diminishing to an irregular three to six mm ring and rocky partial layer, both fed by effervescence.
Lacing – excellent. Wide complete ring of tiny bubbles.
Body – dark brown/black, opaque, effervescent.
Flavor – roasted malt, beginning slightly sweet and ending slightly bitter. Hops and alcohol not evident. Allowing it to warm in my mouth brings out a little chocolate but no alcohol.
Palate – medium, creamy, soft carbonation.

A decent stout seemingly closer to the porter range of the spectrum. If this cost under $ 7/bomber, it’s reasonably priced. Above that, not so much.

Appearance 4, Aroma 4, Flavor 3.75, Palate 4, Overall 3.75.

Poured into a becher pint glass, the appearance was a dark brown color close to black with a finger’s worth of off white foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace. Messy lace. The aroma seemed to blend the roast to the sweet; coffee bean to cocoa bean. Lactose seems to be just an underscore to it. The flavor, once again seems to blend nice and refined with the sweetness of the lactose just there but not burdensome. Smooth sweet to roasty aftertaste rolling into the finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a smooth silkiness on my tongue. Mild carbonation. ABV felt fine. Overall, to me at least, I thought this balanced in way more roast than expected for the style, but I think I enjoyed that more than the usual suspects of this style.
