“This is the greatest and best song (beer) in the world… Tribute.” Not only are we huge Tenacious D fans, but we’re also huge Belgian Tripel fans, so this is our “Tribute”. Brewed with a whole lot of Pilsen malt, Hallertau and Saaz hops, as well a pinch of coriander and bitter orange peel, Tribute has a soft malt backbone that’s paired with a fruity, citrusy flavor, and spicy, yet not over done phenolic character imparted from our use of an authentic Belgian yeast strain. At 9.3% ABV the alcohol is well hidden and very deceptive, and the dry finish will leave you eager for more."

Poured from undated can into a tulip glass. It pours a hazy, honey-orange color with a half finger of foamy, bright white head and lacing that dissipated quickly. On the nose there is sour lemon and orange, along with the obligatory coriander and pepper. While I'm not tasting any banana, there are whiffs of honey and sweet malt. The taste opens with a lot of orange/tangerine and it has more fruity sweetness than other Tripels I've had. The coriander and Belgian yeast become more pronounced as the glass warms and it finishes with a peppery, hoppy bitterness. It has a full mouth feel with a pleasant level of carbonation, and it's potent with an ABV of 9.3%. Overall, Tribute is a fine offering but I'm simply not a fan of the sweet orange.

(4 oz pour at the brewery)
Hazy yellow-gold liquid, gummy froth sticking to glass... mild, dry banana burst up front, quickly followed and finished by a smooth spice and nutty yeast; aftertaste is initially fruity-estery with slight bubblegum tone emerging... supremely smooth, lithe body with very little warmth, let alone heat lingering; too easy to drink... bought a can (or sixer?) of this a couple years back, thought it might be a bit old, the nutty yeast (and toasty spice?) accentuated too much - so, perhaps this doesn't age well - but this (ostensibly fresh) draft sample was rather enjoyable and may have just changed my mind on this; do think I'll seek out a (fresh) sixer and give it another shot (1519)

13 ounce pour at the brewery's Borough Brewhouse. Poured into a snifter.
L---Crystal clear, rich gold color. Small head with no retention and left no lacing.
S---Fruity. Banana & coriander are the most noticeable notes.
T---Light coriander & light orange. Taste is not as full as I was looking for, like it was a Tripel Lite or something. Alcohol was really well hidden. Barely noticeable, you could get in trouble with this one.
F---No bite to it. Smooth. Medium mouthfeel.
O---Not what I was thinking it was going to be, much lighter. I regularly drink tripels, and they are a lot more assertive than this one.

‘‘Tis the season for tripels ( for me, anyway ), and this beer does not disappoint. Lots of notes in this 9.3% golden brew, starting with coriander, orange zest and what might be clove, but could be black pepper. Either way, the combination of these flavors with a nicely balanced malt presence make for a delightful drinking experience. A billowy white head enhances the appeal, provided you pour properly and use the right glass. (I used a snifter.) The alcohol does not intrude nor overpower, but it produces a wonderfully dry finish that will have you asking for another—and another. Just be sure you’re not driving or operating a backhoe afterwards. Unsurprisingly, a very solid tripel from Neshaminy Creek.

Look - opaque golden color with a nice foamy white head that has low retention and spotty lacing.
Smell - big tripel aromas in the form of coriander, banana, bubble gum, and pungent yeast notes.
Taste - very similar to the nose with the yeast hitting hard and lingering throughout and after. The coriander, banana, and bubble gum notes shine through here and there and make for a nice overall flavor profile.
Feel - high carbonation, medium slightly chewy body, and partially dry finish.

Neshaminy Creek Brewing Co. "Tribute Tripel"
12 fl. oz. can, no production coding or freshness dating.
$2.99 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ
Notes via stream of consciousness: Interesting can. Very hazy golden body with an orange cast beneath a massive head of off-white - I let it get away from me a little, which is normally OK, but apparently this one has really good head retention to so I have to wait. The lacing that's forming as the head falls is quite nice, so I assume that it'll be like that throughout the glass. The aroma is a little bit yeasty, spicy like coriander seed, and just a touch banana-like over sweet grainy malt. Wow! The flavor is much fuller than the aroma suggests! It's loaded with fruit (apple, plum, tangerine, banana, mango) and sugary malt that somehow dries in the finish, perhaps due to the black pepper spiciness of the yeast, the coriander, and the hops. It's floral, spicy, mildly herbal, and just a touch grassy. A median bitterness helps to balance it as well - ahh, I just got it - as does some alcohol, which is part of the peppery spiciness I'm finding in the finish. Thankfully that's not overdone as I can sometimes find too much peppery spiciness, or alcohol, distracting. No, this is very well balanced and rounded. This could be a dangerous beer for me, I'd gladly drink two of these in a row, and then, when I'm not thinking properly, have another! Looking back the lacing was not as good as I'd hoped it would be but the head retention remained. Medium to medium-light in body with a bristling, finely effervescent carbonation. Certainly worth trying!
