Style | ABV
German Pilsener |  4.80% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
Our Pilsner is assertively hopped with Hallertau and Tettnanger noble hops and has a cracker-like malt backbone that finishes crisp and dry coming in at 4.8% ABV, which makes this one highly drinkable (which is the point, duh).

A big shout out to the creator of the canquest, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a bright yellow color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of light grains, a bit of lemon. Taste is grassy hops, some lemon tartness, dry at the finish. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a decent beer.

Pours a hazy gold yellow with a medium white slowly fading head, mild lacing. Scents of citrus, grains and grass fill the nose with some fruity and yeast notes as well follow thru on the taste. Palate is a medium clean crisp body, fairly pleasant on the tongue. Finish is sweet mild spice fruit some lemon, yeast, grains and yeast and nutty aftertaste. Overall quite pleasant refreshing summer brew.

Pours a lightly hazed golden straw, minimal head. Musty pils malts and light doeses of grassy/spicy and citrus hops... carries forward to taste. Taste is fuller than scent dictated and a bit heavier than the stated ABVs... very pleasant, clean and refreshing but filling at the same time. Lighter side of medium bodied, lightly oily and smooth. Overall, impressed with another beer from this newer local brewery.

I am CANtinuing down the road this afternoon, CANducting The CANQuest ™ in the manner in which it was intended. In fact, this CAN and the next one were some of the first CANs released to the public at the brewery during the second Saturday of Philly Beer Week 2014! I made a day trip up to Croydon and hung out with some bikers that afternoon. Bro. Woody is of the life, just not in the life.

From the CAN: "Traditional German Pilsner".

Jeremy Myers imparted to me that the reason for brimful CANs is to reduce any possibility of oxygen in the headspace before the lid is seamed on. I do not care about why, I just dig it! It is like a Baker's Dozen and this CAN was no exception. The two-plus fingers of puffy, bone-white head looked like meringue above lemon pie filling. The good retention finally gave 'way to the production of great sticky lacing. Color was a slightly hazy Pale-Straw (SRM = 1 - 2). Nose seemed restrained in terms of the malt-to-hops ratio, coming off more like a Czech Pils. If you think that I am CANplaining, then you must be new to The CANQuest (TM)! It had a lemony-grassy biscuit-like smell, reminiscent of lemon biscotti. Man, I could go for some biscotti right about now! Mouthfeel was medium. I have got to say, this was too hoppy for its style. It was very lemon-grass bitter and while I was totally digging it, it was more like a Czech Pils. Finish was dry, no two ways about it. I still think that it and the Churchville Lager would be excellent CANdidates to fill the Summer cooler.

12 oz can poured into a tulip pint.

Appearance
Straw with 2 fingers of creamy, white head that dissipates slowly. Excellent clarity with light-moderate carbonation.

Nose
Cracker, bread, and lemongrass.

Taste
Crackery malts with deeper tones of toasted bread and caramel. A nice punch of hops forming earthy florals and notes of lemongrass. Lighter notes of golden apple and pear with hints of bubblegum.

Mouthfeel
Medium-light bodied, crisp, clean, and refreshing.

Overall
A nice refreshing Pilsner!
