Style | ABV
German Pilsener |  4.80% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
Our Pilsner is assertively hopped with Hallertau and Tettnanger noble hops and has a cracker-like malt backbone that finishes crisp and dry coming in at 4.8% ABV, which makes this one highly drinkable (which is the point, duh).

'Twas a hazy straw colored yellow and poured with a moderately sticky, short lived, fizzy head. I smelled an abundance of noble hop character, plenty of grass, aspirin, and hint of flowers. Some crackers and biscuits for malt balance.

This is a very dry pils, just the way I like them, but this one may have gone a tad too Saharan. A nice grassy bit mingles with biscuits and mineral water up front for a refreshing start. The finish is a lingering, flavorful bitterness that tastes of aspirin, faint grapefruit rind, and pepper. Dry and crisp on the tongue, this is one I'd be happy to have again. It isn't quite in the upper echelon of killer PA pils' but this is no slouch either.

Neshaminy Creek "Trauger Pilsner"
12 oz. can, no apparent freshness dating

Appearance: Surprisingly hazy for a German Pilsner. The head retention is quite good however, and there's some fairly good lacing as well.

Aroma: Grassy, spicy, and very gently floral hops with a background suggestion of pilsner malt.

Flavor: Much more malt than the nose suggests, pleasantly threaded through with hops. The malt is mildly grassy, and straw-like, with an edge of sugariness. It's really nicely balanced in flavor and bitterness, although I think for style a few more IBUs might be required. The clean, dry finish leaves light washes of floral and gently spicy hops behind.

Mouthfeel: Medium leaning towards medium-light in body. Crisp, standard carbonation. Nicely done.

Overall: With the exception of the haze and a slightly restrained bitterness, this is a pretty good example of the German Pilsner style (I actually find it to be more of a Czech Pils). Regardless, it's quite charming and remarkably drinkable.

A big shout out to the creator of the canquest, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a bright yellow color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of light grains, a bit of lemon. Taste is grassy hops, some lemon tartness, dry at the finish. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a decent beer.

Pours a hazy gold yellow with a medium white slowly fading head, mild lacing. Scents of citrus, grains and grass fill the nose with some fruity and yeast notes as well follow thru on the taste. Palate is a medium clean crisp body, fairly pleasant on the tongue. Finish is sweet mild spice fruit some lemon, yeast, grains and yeast and nutty aftertaste. Overall quite pleasant refreshing summer brew.

-can. served in pilsner glass.

(3.25) A: Sligthly hazy corn yellow coloring with a weakly holding, washy, dirty white head. Faint isolated instances of carbonation with no lacing.

(3.25) S: Pale lemons and straw on the nose.

(3.70) T: Lightly sweet buttered croissant. Flowery noble hops, dry wheat stalks, with a light herbal hint. Straw, nice dry bite of of citrus and wheat funk on the finish. Hopping is above average per style. Dry buttered bread.

(3.45) M: Dry grains, light medium body, quiet carbonation factor.

(3.65) O: Overall very drinkable, kept traditional like a german style, but with a pretty good flavor intensity of noble hops. Dry, and gets better as the drink progresses. 6 pack worthy.
