This is the best weizenbock from a US craft brewery I've had so far. It has the banana fruity esters, sweet malt, rum, and dark fruits along with a signature hint of honey. In addition, this complex bock has coffee, dark chocolate, burnt wood and friendly hop finish that does not destroy all of the other great flavors. Similar to the Neshaminy Creek Dunks Ferry Dunkelweizen times two or the Punkel Dunkel without the pumpkin or spices, this is exactly what I had hoped for in their weizenbock. Definitely more intense than an Ayinger, and more charred oak intensity than an Erdinger Pikantus. I will be drinking this whenever I can find it.

Poured from a brown 22 oz. bottle. Has a dark cola color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of malts, chocolate, a bit of honey. Taste is malty, bready, a hint of chocolate, alcohol is well hidden, Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a solid beer.

Poured form a 22 oz bomber in to a tulip glass.

A- Pours a dark brown body with a one inch brown body. Red hues around the edges. Pretty decent looking.

S- Mostly dark fruits on the nose with some wheat.

T- Slightly tart dark fruits, milk chocolate, and a little spicy. Very balanced as far as flavors.

M- Lovely mouthfeel. Very full and medium light carbonation as it warms up. Just the way I like it.

O- Reasonably enjoyable brew by Neshaminy. Can't wait until Punkel Dunkel comes out again in the fall!

Appearance: pours a dark cloudy brownish amber color with a 2" head that lasts awhile.

Smell: some fruits and wheat tones come through to the nose.

Taste: wheat, soft raisins and dark cherries, a hint of banana, some pumpernickel bread qualities, and a mild bitterness. Yeast flavors arrive late.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Crisp to start, less crisp at the finish.

Overall: this weizen bock has a decent flavor and was slow sipping.

Poured into a sam adams custom pint glass: color is brown, opaque, head is tan with fine bubbles that present about 1/2 inch thick.

Smell is sweet, deep caramel, raisins, plums, touch of chocolate.

Taste is sweet, strong sweetness but not quite cloying. Flavors are caramel, raisin, plum with chocolate finish. Banana and clove are subtle with some additional spicy/dryness.

Mouthfeel is sweet at first, then drying and kind of biting on the tongue.

Overall, a bit sweet for my taste, but the flavors are interesting as it warms with deep sweet flavors and subtle banana.

Dark raisin brown in color with deceptive opaqueness. Poured with a rich, off-white foam with respectable retention. Sweet malt aromas were prominent with earthy, ripe, dark fruit in the background. On the heavier side of medium bodied with rich, somewhat aggressive, pleasantly tangy, carbonation.Sweet caramel and wheat malt flavors up front followed by earthy, herbal hop bitterness that slowly builds through the middle to the end. Ripe, raisin and dark fruit flavors throughout. Finished semi-dryly with a earthy hop tanginess followed by a sweet  bready, yeasty aftertaste. Dangerously drinkable considering the +8 abv. Certainly an under-appreciated style.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a lighter brown-chestnut color with a one finger of tan colored head. The head has a good level of retention, very slowly fading over time to leave some nice streaky lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma isn't as big as one may expect for a Weizenbock of 8.5 %. Aromas of a toasted malt and wheat along with some darker fruit smells of cherry and raisin are the strongest of the aromas. Other aromas of a yeasty smell as well as some spice aromas of clove are there as well. Some honey sweetness rounds out the smell overall giving a lighter Weizenbock smell.

Taste – The taste begins with a sweet taste of cherry and plum with some wheat and bready flavors and a bit of roasted malt. The sweeter flavors seem to intensify even more with more dark fruit flavors coming to the tongue as the flavor advances further. Along with the increase in sweetness, so too comes some lighter yeast flavors more toward the middle of the taste. Some banana flavors as well as some spice of clove also come to the tongue along with the yeast, giving it a nice fruity flavor at this point overall. A little bit of an apple flavor as well as some lighter grassy and herbal hop flavors come to the tongue at the very end of the taste, and along with the other flavors and a little bit of a rum and honey taste, give a rather sweet, fruity, and nice darker heavy flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thicker and chewier side with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. Both are great for the big fruity flavors of the brew as well as wheat and roasted flavors, overall producing a rather nice creamy and enjoyable feel to the brew.

Overall –A fruity and sweet Weizenbock with nice big and thick flavors and a great feel. This is an enjoyable and robust brew that is nice for the cooler winter weather.

a: Dark cola brown; poured with a thick, creamy, long lasting, sticky head.

s: Not much going on here. This is vaguely vegetal with some sweet bread a faint dark fruits.

t: A bit better than the smell. Sweet flavors of faint honey, bread, and raisin. A little cocoa and just a trace of stewed veggies at the end.

m: Big, thick, and chewy.

o: Some good stuff going on here, but this is a miss for me. Honey bock sounded good too.

Nice to see this style on the US shores. A bit sweet, but even some of the German varieties are guilty of that. Dark brown body with near perfect beige head, thick and creamy, coats the glass. Aroma is sweet (raisins), taste is also led by the sweetness, but with the body of a decent hefeweizen nice and chewy. More sweetness on the finish.
