Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: TheFightfan1 on 06-29-2013

Pennsylvania breweries are known for world-class lagers, and this 2013 Great American Beer Fest Gold Medal winning Vienna-style, no fuss amber lager is clean, crisp, and brewed with Munich, and Vienna malts that give it a touch of malt backbone and toast-like character. Hopped exclusively with German Tettnanger hops, it’s got enough hop bitterness to counter that malt backbone as well. Lagered for six-weeks, Churchville Lager comes in at 4.9% ABV, and is the perfect beer for a night out with friends, and family, or the holiday BBQ. Don’t be afraid to order the new ‘Lager’ in town.

A big thanks to woodychandler for yet another canned beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a dark golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is, well, faint. Several large whiffs resulted in just a few faint malts. Taste is malts, some sweetness, bready, a touch of hops. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a decent beer but nothing special. (350 characters)

12oz can. Pours dark amber with a small off white head. Aroma and taste is mild toasted grains, grass, hay, some yeast and mild fruity notes. Palate is a medium mildly crisp body, moderate carbonation. Finish same as taste with some lingering yeast and toasted grains. Overall a ok drinking brew. (296 characters)

A: The beer is crystal clear amber in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high off white head that died down, leaving a short head covering the surface.
S: Light to moderate aromas of toasted malts and earthy yeast are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell, but has stronger flavors of toasted malts along with notes of earthy yeast.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is easy to drink and is a good representation of the style, especially with its malty flavors.

The beer pours out a clear, almost copper amber color into a Duvel glass with a 1/2 inch ivory head that soon recedes to a thin covering of the surface leaving a ring of foam on the sides of the glass. There is light, visible carbonation. Sipping leaves small patches, speckles and legs of lacing.

The aromas include some nice rich bready malt and some faint touches of grassy, earthy hops.

The flavors are pretty much predictable from the nose with the rich bready rich malt flavor and some grassy character and light bitterness from the hops.

The mouth feel is on the light side of medium and there's a light persistent prickly carbonation. The finish becomes nicely dry inviting the next sip.

This is a nicely drinkable beer. It definitely fits the style guidelines as I understand them and will most certainly be a repeat in the future.

Note: After finishing this review I found in some other information about Neshaminy Creek won a GABF medal in 2013 for this lager. Having now had the beer I can understand why it made it into the finals of the judging and eventually won the medal. (1,100 characters)
