Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company
Pennsylvania, United States | website

Style: Vienna Lager

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.90%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Pennsylvania breweries are known for world-class lagers, and this 2013 Great American Beer Fest Gold Medal winning Vienna-style, no fuss amber lager is clean, crisp, and brewed with Munich, and Vienna malts that give it a touch of malt backbone and toast-like character. Hopped exclusively with German Tettnanger hops, it’s got enough hop bitterness to counter that malt backbone as well. Lagered for six-weeks, Churchville Lager comes in at 4.9% ABV, and is the perfect beer for a night out with friends, and family, or the holiday BBQ. Don’t be afraid to order the new ‘Lager’ in town.

Amber in color with a honey yellow hue. Slight chill haze at first pour but cleared beautifully in a few minutes. Poured with a thick white foam that reduced to a healthy cap and left rings of wet sticky lacings on the glass. Earthy, grainy, toasted malt with sweet caramel malt and earthy hops in the background. Medium bodied with a pleasantly smooth, delicate feel. Fresh, clean, toasted and caramel malt flavors throughout with earth, herbal flavors emerging through the middle to the end. Finished crisply and cleanly with a pleasant herbal tanginess followed by a sour bread aftertaste. Crisp, clean, drinkable and refreshing.

Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company "Churchville Lager"
12 fl. oz. can, no production code or freshness dating
$1.99 @ Giant, Havertown, PA

Churchville Lager pours a slightly hazy deep copper colored body beneath a creamy head of off-white. The head retention is good but the lacing is just average. Gently fruity and mildly toasty malt greets you in the nose along with some floral hops, and unfortunately, some detracting esters. The flavor follows suit, opening up the malt to display a little bit more grain, and the hops a touch more grass and spice. It's medium-light in body and gently crisp, balanced by a firm bitterness that's somewhere in the 20 - 25 IBU range.

A dark toasty lager with a smooth mellow and crisp mouthfeel. Darker than Brooklyn lager and from what I remember more toasty than Sam Adams but on a similar level of quality.

A big thanks to woodychandler for yet another canned beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a dark golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is, well, faint. Several large whiffs resulted in just a few faint malts. Taste is malts, some sweetness, bready, a touch of hops. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a decent beer but nothing special.

12oz can. Pours dark amber with a small off white head. Aroma and taste is mild toasted grains, grass, hay, some yeast and mild fruity notes. Palate is a medium mildly crisp body, moderate carbonation. Finish same as taste with some lingering yeast and toasted grains. Overall a ok drinking brew.
