Date tasted: July 13, 2013 at Bea McNally's in Hackettstown, NJ... Glassware: pint... Occasion: celebrating a good round (aesthetics more than scores) of golf with bro Jer and Matt....Appearance: dark amber body; slow/low effervescence; thick white head that holds a finger solidly... Aroma: bright, sprucey hops; a backbone of mellow malts keeps the profile a bit unbalanced... Palate: full-bodied, effectively working the whole mouth--a good prelude for a spicy nacho appetizer...Taste: malts are in full effect, belying the IPA style this purports to be--almost an ESB underlying its hoppy flash; the pale hops build their intensity as the glass drain... Overall: aside from Matt's sarcasm concerning the language of the beer rating world--or just me--the drinking experience was a smooth, fitting finish to a good day of golfing, with a solid strength; not so EVIL as it is EVOLVED, a pleasantly drinkable beer that subtly pushes its 6%ABV...only reservation is that it doesn't consistently present as an India pale ale....

A: Dense dirty orange coloring has a good deal of protein haze and sporadic carbonation release. Frumpy cottage cheese textured head is barley tinted and shows some resilience. Spongy band lacing.
S: Citrusy-pine and orange on the nose. A touch of fresh grapefruit with a decent level of awareness.
T: Flavor of sweet grains come first, musky damp citrus seem a bit old, damp, but still bitter with some orange and grapefruit flowery bitterness. Grainy, dry, almost pilsner like malting backbone but still shows a bit of washiness.
M: Light and frothy mouthful, bitter, with some musky hops. Maybe the hops are showing thier age or lack of respect in handling. Carbonation is light could use some tightening and crispness.
O: Overall due to lack of bottling info, it is hard to determine if this is after best consumption or just a bad usage and/or storage of materials. Very musky, old hop feeling, average C rated drinkability and excitement, a pass unless your a ticker.

12oz bottle into tulip.
A - Rich orange amber with a large, rocky white head.
S - Grapefruit, faint mango, caramel malt, and floral hops.
T - A subtle blend of grapefruit, orange peel, pine, and caramel malt. Compared to the aroma, the hops are very subdued. The caramel malt and a woody, grainy flavor are dominant throughout. A slight bitterness persists into the finish, but grainy malt flavors linger.
M - Smooth, medium body and medium carbonation. Dry finish.
O - An okay IPA. Not terrible, but not great either. The dark, woody/grainy flavor is a little too much and pushes the citrus element into the background. On the other hand, this is an extremely easy drinking beer with decent flavor.
