Not the APA for which I'd hoped...

Pours a hazy copper colour with a respectable whitish head that has fair retention, but not stellar and no sign of residual lacing. Has a mild malt-forward aroma that has only a hint of faded hops despite being a newly purchase bottle. I don't see a brew date on the label, but there is no sign of fresh hops in the aroma despite their presence in the other bottles in this mixed 6.

There is far more flavour than any macro would offer, but less than I'd expected or hoped. Starts with a caramelized malt sweetness and moves rapidly to "moderate bitterness", albeit missing the typical hop spectrum i.e.no sign of citrus or tropical fruits or any other distinct APA elements.

Will buy more from this brewer and glad to see them starting up, but not an APA I'll rave about...

Date tasted: July 13, 2013 at Bea McNally's in Hackettstown, NJ... Glassware: pint... Occasion: celebrating a good round (aesthetics more than scores) of golf with bro Jer and Matt....Appearance: dark amber body; slow/low effervescence; thick white head that holds a finger solidly... Aroma: bright, sprucey hops; a backbone of mellow malts keeps the profile a bit unbalanced... Palate: full-bodied, effectively working the whole mouth--a good prelude for a spicy nacho appetizer...Taste: malts are in full effect, belying the IPA style this purports to be--almost an ESB underlying its hoppy flash; the pale hops build their intensity as the glass drain... Overall: aside from Matt's sarcasm concerning the language of the beer rating world--or just me--the drinking experience was a smooth, fitting finish to a good day of golfing, with a solid strength; not so EVIL as it is EVOLVED, a pleasantly drinkable beer that subtly pushes its 6%ABV...only reservation is that it doesn't consistently present as an India pale ale....

A: Pours a copper-brown, cloudy with notable diffusion, off-white head, finger-thick with similar lacing.

S: Hop-forward scent, very abrupt with no lingering aromatics.

T: Hops are moderate and piney throughout, mild toasty-ness in the malts, finishes with a balance between the two.

O: Basic AIPA, what you would expect, would be a good for causal drinking with a moderate 6% abv.

L – Pours to a three finger head that dissipates into a half finger. Quite a bit of lacing remains as you consume. Amber in color, actually more copper, very clear with a noticeable about of carbonation.

A – Floral notes are up front with a nice aroma of sweet malt. Smell of citris and maybe a bit of honey.

T – Sweet up front taste that is taken over by a mild bitterness of hops. Has a dry finish but not at all too harsh.

MF – A lot of carbonation with attack your mouth. If they could get the carbonation a little lower I feel it would help the beer a lot.

D – Very drinkable. I could easily put down a few of these in a session. I enjoyed this beer and would recommend it to someone who is on the fence on IPA’s. The hops in this one are very mild but noticeable. They are close with this one to have a great beer. My recommendations are less carbonation and a bit more hops.

I wanted something I had never tried and I love IPAs so I bought a variety case. I tried an Evil Eye PA.
Appearance - Weak head, little or no carbonation, cloudy.

Smell - This was the best part of the beer. Citrusy - assumed it would be a good tasting, mildly fruity IPA - wrong

Taste - 1 second of ok, and straight to dry tongue and a bad after taste. My brain did not want to believe it... so I took another swig. Now I'm thinking $45 for this. Hope the others in the variety earn their keep.

Mouthfeel - Very thin. Instant dry tongue and absolutely not carbonation present.

Overall - Poor attempt. Too bad because the Brewery name and the name of the beer are so cool that this would have been a regular if it had tasted good. At 6% I hoped it would be a not-too-big beer to add into the rotation. After three or four sips I set it down and could not finish it.

I poured this beer at about 60 degrees and it was and exceptionally beautiful and clear amber colour with well over 3 fingers of head which settles to a full finger for the entire drink and leaves a nice sticky lacing on the glass.

The aroma is very hop forward floral and citrusy with a strong mix of pale malt sweetness and honey. This has to be one of the best smelling beers that I have ever had!

The taste is really mellow and sweet to begin with and handsomely the bittering hops take the lead by time the sip is finished. It's very well balanced with some notes of citrus and pepper.

The mouthfeel is a bit hot from carbonation which is noticeable on the tip of the tongue immediately but then it smooths out but leaves you hanging a little as it is a bit thin. The finish is fairly dry but not overly so.

This beer has some excellent points and some that seem like they need work. The aroma is just off the wall gorgeous, the flavour a bit average and the body too thin and carbonated. It is exceedingly sessionable though and truthfully, I would seek this out again, especially on tap as the carbonation might be different. This is a good beer!
