Poured into a narrow pint glass: color is dark brown, head is tan and presents 2 fingers thick, head lingers with a solid top with some spots on the glass.

Smell is light chocolate, hint of spice with clove leading, some toasted and caramel malt, light herbal quality.

Taste is lighter chocolate/cocoa, light spice with clove and some cinnamon, toast and caramel malt flavors, no real hop taste.

Mouthfeel is low carbonation, moderate sweetness, low bitterness and lingering spice bite.

Overall - a lightly flavored pumpkin spiced beer with light chocolate notes; spicing seems to have softened but chocolate is not overdone.

From the bottom of the can: "2022216 11:55AM"

Appearance: The body is black with hints of dark mahogany brown at the edges as light comes through. The head starts super-massive and requires a double-pour to wait for it to recede. It has a light khaki head that borders on the edge of dirty cream. It is fluffy and has good retention. No lacing.

Aroma: There is a carbonic note that comes through on the nose at first. After that there is a bit of clove. Not much is coming through in the aroma of this beer.

Taste: Up front there is a ton of clove. Towards the middle the clove becomes even stronger but there are hints of other spices in the background. It seems like there is a bit of nutmeg but just as any flavor pops up the clove buries it. The beer is a bit reminiscent of potpourri.

Mouthfeel: The beer has a pretty solid body that rests towards the upper edge of medium. It feels smooth on the palate. It has a mild bitterness which is a bit earthy and grain-derived which is pleasant. The can indicates "Alc.7.8%" and it does a good job of concealing the alcohol.

Overall: The beer has some merit points when it comes to drinkability and appearance, but it falls short very heavily when it comes to flavor and aroma. The can states that this is a "CHOCOLATE PUMPKIN PORTER ALE WITH NATURAL FLAVORS ADDED." It is important to note that the chocolate seems to be missing from this beer entirely. The can also states that this is "a dark roasty porter with cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and chocolate." There isn't any indication of where the natural flavors came from but it seems like the pumpkin pie spice might have been heavily tilted towards the clove. I wouldn't buy the beer again or recommend it for this year, but it might be worth trying again in the future to see if the brewery gets the spice ratio better tuned.

Tis the season for pumpkin! I. unashamedly love pumpkin beers, though many can go wrong so I understand (some of) the disdain by others. I've had pumpkin in a stout base, but never a porter. And this one has chocolate as well. I'm interested to see if the chocolate shines through or if they just overdosed it with pumpkin

Pours a very dark brown with 3 fingers of light tan head that slowly fades to a cap and leaves minimal lacing

In the nose this one definitely shows an interesting balance between the pumpkin and the base beer. I'm picking up on aromas of pumpkin meat, pumpkin seeds, roasted malt, milk chocolate, nutmeg, brown bread, and a touch of smoke

I would argue that the balance is even more compelling in taste, feeling more like the porter is the main focus with pumpkin as an afterthought. On the front end of the sip I'm tasting roasted malt, cococa powder, cinnamon, brown bread, and light pumpkin. The swallow brings notes of roasted pumpkin meat, milk chocolate, raisin, cinnamon, rich vanilla, smoked malt, and light nutmeg

A medium body pairs with very gentle carbonation, resulting in a a creamy and smooth beer. Finishes off dry with a nice pumpkin character

I like this one quite a bit. It's a nice best of both worlds for people who may just be getting into pumpkin beers. However, it seems like people are rating this one as if they're bitter that it's not a straight up porter. It should be pretty clear what they're getting themselves into

12 ounce can poured into a snulip glass. Canned 8/13/21.

L---darkest brown color. Khaki head faded immediately to a ring and left nice lacing.

S---Strong pumpkin spices, cinnamon & nutmeg. Milk chocolate.

T---Pumpkin spices are milder than on the nose. Lingering chocolate finish.

F---Medium/full body with light carbonation.

O---A nice take on all of the pumpkin ales.

Smooth and well complexed. A boozy 7 abv clove pumpkin and cinnamon with some pumpkin well blended brew. Dark color and super drinkable. Would definitely drink again. Drink out of a Rastal teku.

4pk of 16oz cans (082620) obtained fm the Bolton Hill Food Center: a standard pour into a nonic pint glass produced a frothy mocha head with good retention and plenty of lace over a dark brown body. Faint chocolate on the nose, more on the tongue - perhaps a hint of the gourd in the aftertaste? Medium body & carbonation. A solid chocolate porter, but billed as a chocolate-pumpking porter, so...

Appearance:
Dark, chestnut brown with a head like pale sand. Moderate retention and the rare spectacle of perfect, unbroken lacing a good two inches down the glass.

Bouquet:
Pumpkin pie filling with a drizzle of brown sugar, accompanied by a nearly-mute choir of cardamom, clove, and cinnamon singing softly in the background.

Feel:
A smooth medium mounted on rumbling tank-treads of carbonation. The steady thrum of bubbles gives it ‘oomph!’ and elevates the flavor profile.

Taste:
A cluster of milk chocolate candies zooms by on a comet of crisp, pumpkin puree. The unusual pair blend seamlessly, folding into one another, creating a mouthful of silky, mildly-sweet dessert. A quick whisper of roasted toffee and a reluctant tickle of the bouquet’s spices linger and gain strength in the aftertaste. Superb balance.

Overall:
This is the first pumpkin beer I’ve had where the baking spices take a backseat to that elusive pumpkin flavor. Just the right amount of sweetness. Even better than the vaunted, Schlafly’s Pumpkin Ale, which struggles to put its pumpkin ahead of its spices.
