Spot on appearance for a lower abv milk stout; very dark brown, to blackness in the center, revealing some transparency at the edges. Abundant head, pretty dense and lingering, minimal lacing. Smells pretty solid, dark / bitter chocolate, a nutty / milky sweetness. In memory, evokes pistachio ice-cream. The bitter chocolate note builds over the glass with the sweet nutty elements laced throughout. I didn't find the flavor overly artificial, nor did I find it rustically pure; it never came off as a novelty though and getting through the pint was no chore.

Really nice beer IMHO. Dry Hop gets rather overlooked locally - probably the location, which makes it tough for people from out of the neighborhood to swing by - but they're doing interesting work. Hopefully more shows up in cans.

i love the idea, it sounds amazing in theory, but as it turns out, this beer doesnt need the milk sugar, and it ends up being a distraction and an unnecessary component rather than a desirable ingredient. it looks shiny and thick, creamy on the head, sharp in the nonic pint. smells good too, but a little fakey on the pistachio. i get the icecream green thing rather than the oily nut itself, and that carries over to the taste a little bit more intensely. in the flavor, it seems really fake, so its strange how it says made with actual pistachios. perhaps there is some chemical reaction i am unaware of that would change the flavor of the nut so drastically, but its sweet, and with all the lactose, its way too sweet. one pint was even a bit of a trudge for me because of this. the base stout is very nice though, and the addition of the bitter cocoa helps a little bit for balancing, but it doesnt get all the way there. my first beer from these guys, and the idea was far better than the execution. of the beers i had here, it sure seemed like the hoppy stuff was dialed in a lot better than the malt or additive driven beers. still worth trying just because its so unique. cool spot too, cant wait to go back.
