Barrel Stout - served in a shaker pint glass on tap. 52 IBU, 7% ABV. Aged in Jack Daniels bourbon barrels according to the server behind the counter.
Appearance: Black, mostly opaque. Thin tan head with some persistent small islands of lacing here and there.
Smell: Mostly bourbon with some vanilla notes upon swirling, not a lot else.
Taste: Tennessee Bourbon style dominates the flavor, but not overpowering. You get that smoother filtered bourbon flavor up front and in the middle, with some roasted malt showing up in the middle and a very mild bittersweet chocolate finish.
Mouthfeel: Thick, but not creamy. Mild carbonation.
Overall / Drinkability: The bourbon barrel aging I think takes over the stout a bit too much with this beer, but it's still a good beer, just not a great one. Maybe with a more flavorful stout you'd get more stout flavor mixing in with the bourbon as an accent. Don't get me wrong, it's a tasty beer, but I've had better bourbon barrel aged stouts. One is enough per evening, but I think this beer would pair really well with a meal, such as a burger or a dessert...I'm leaning towards something meaty with this beer. I may have to try it again next time the food truck is present and see how things pair up.
Serving type: on-tap
