Served in a Shaker pint glass at the brewery.
Appearance: Mostly black, with some color coming in at the edges showing a dark cola brown. Very little head when handed to me, barest amount of lacing, but what was there tended to stick around, even after a swirl of the glass.
Smell: Bittersweet chocolate, some sweet cocoa notes with a deep inhale.
Taste: Roasted malts with caramel notes. Some chocolate notes as well. As advertised on the sign in the brewery, well hopped (51 IBU) and the finish had some definite pine and citrus notes - a combination of orange peel and grapefruit citrus bitter finishes.
Mouthfeel: Nicely thick, lively carbonation but not fizzy.
Overall / Drinkability: Each individual component of this beer by itself isn't outstanding, but combined they work well. I would call this an above average stout. The bitter finish was interesting combined with the roasted stout flavors. The hops really popped out at the end more than I expected them to. The beer grew on me over the course of the glass, but not enough that I would want another one.
Serving type: on-tap
