650ml bottle poured into pint glass 25/5/13

A clear dark copper with a very slight haze, lots of tiny bubbles but only a thumbs width of tan foam that doesn't last long and leaves a couple random patches of lace

S orange creamsicle, canned peaches, floral notes, very faint catty aspect, lots of caramel, a little pine and some rind, simcoe and citra? not overly strong but decent

T much more rind and not as floral, slight herbal aspect and just slightly more pine, I prefer the nose but its so close it scores the same

M has some body and it has enough carbonation to give it life stopping short of creamy, long finish of rind and caramel, mild bitter bite

O decent beer but doesn't quite pack the punch of the typical West Coast IPA, it has some balance to it but I prefer hop overkill from the style

respectable brew but its not going to stand out if put up against other BC IPA's, worth trying but a hard sell with so many others on the same shelf

Appearance - Pours a dark copper brown with a finger of foamy beige head.

Smell - Citrus, piney hops, caramalts, some tropical fruits.

Taste - Citrus and pine hops, malts taste like they are a more grainy caramalt, along with tropical fruits. Light bitterness in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with light to moderate carbonation. A little sticky.

Overall - A little weak on the hop front for what I think the style requires, however it is something that can be easily improved and make for an excellent American IPA.

Poured from a 650ml bottle. This beer pours an orangey copper colour. The nose has nice (if not a bit muted) pine and lemon notes. The flavours are similarly unobtrusive: earthy, citrus and a decent bitterness. This is definitely more like an English IPA. It's not particularly assertive hops-wise, but it's still quite a lovely, drinkable beer.

650ml bottle. Definition #4: a homemade foil head garment, for fending off government mind-reading spy satellites. Or something.

This beer pours a slightly hazy, dark copper amber hue, with two fat fingers of densely caked, solidly foamy ecru head, which leaves some decent layered fuzzy lace around the glass as it slowly ebbs away.

It smells of creamed caramel malt, some biscuity breadiness, rather neutered citrus peel, a touch of astringent pine needles, and further floral, somewhat perfumed hops. The taste is more caramel malt up front, with a twinge of edgy toffee, muddled orange and overripe grapefruit, ethereal pine forest notes, a touch of lemon cleanser, and further hints of warming alcohol.

The carbonation is present, and quite well distributed, the body an adequate medium weight, mostly smooth, and with an entry-level, who do I gotta blow to get anywhere here sort of smoothness. It finishes off-dry, the biscuity caramel malt still holding purvey over anything hop-oriented.

An agreeable enough IPA, one of that particular west-coast sub-style, i.e. the one from the part of the PACNW still beholden to the British crown. Ergo, the malt cannot be outshined by the hop. I guess that this isn't altogether a totality, as Philips has well demonstrated, but I have to extract a meme from someplace other than my ass, non?

Picked this up at the brewery last wednesday night after a nice tasting with the lovely Emily. Thanks for the dinner recomendation, the meatloaf sandwich and pints of Townsite were awesome!

Appearance. Pours a deep, lightly hazy amber with a finger of just off-white head.

Smell. Bright citrusy hops and some grainy caramel malts. Just a little pine and light fruits.

Taste. Again, bright citrusy hops and some slightly grainy caramel malts with a little more pine than the smell. Nice bitter finish. Just a little alcohol coming through.

Mouthfeel. Medium+ body with medium, smooth carbonation.

Overall. A very nice west coast style ipa. Another great beer from a great new BC brewery!
