Big and friendly, our Brown Ale is as approachable as its inspiration — Cedric, George Vanderbilt’s beloved St. Bernard. Our deep russet-colored beer offers hints of caramel and roasted barley, with a nutty flavor produced by Victory™ malt. The crisp finish is marked by well-balanced hops.

16 ounce pint - $5.00 at Cedric’s Tavern at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina.
Appearance: Clear, brown body with a 1/3-inch head comprised of off-white foam. Thin lace sheets on the drop. Just a good, humble appearance.
Smell: Well, it certainly smells as one would expect a thoughtfully constructed brown ale to, with notes of slightly over-toasted bread, cocoa, dark caramel, and a hint of roast.
Taste: Brown maltiness of crushed toasted bread crusts, chocolate powder, maybe a bit of instant coffee. Lightly sweet. Small hint of fruitiness. Lightly earthy hops with enough bitterness to balance things out. More caramel developing late and upon warming. Dry, malty finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Overall: A pleasant-tasting, easy-drinking brown ale.

Had this beer in a plastic cup at the Biltmore Chateau with a very nice kielbasa sandwich, which the beer complimented well. From draft, good head and lacing (despite the plastic cup) on a clear brown head. A light malty beer with smell of grass and wheat toast and a bit of caramel taste. Not bad.

On tap. Pours brown with white head. Body is medium and crisp. Toffee, caramel, herbal hops, dark fruit fill the mouth. Medium dry finish. Nice brew.

Pours a clear light brown with a quarter inch white head that left some blotchy lacing. Smell is on the mild side with some lightly toasted malts. caramel and toffee. Taste follows the nose along with yeast, mildly bitter hops, very light nuttiness, bread, sweet malts. Light to medium bodied, soft carbonation, mouth feel is on the thin side.

12/31/15 from notes...pours light see through brown. Low foam. Nutty ready nose, slightly sweet. Smooth toffee background. Sweet bite. Pretty good but not spectacular.
