A - Pours a very dark black color with a finger of frothy chocolate colored head. The head fades down fairly slowly leaving behind some good lacing.

S - Aroma is a mix of milk chocolate malts with some roastiness, minerals, and a touch of coffee.

T - Starts off with some roasted chocolate malts with a hint of coffee and a bit of a mineraly flavor. Through the middle, some sweeter milk chocolate flavors come through with a bit more roasted flavor. The finish is a mix of roasted chocolate and coffee with a touch of sweetness and minerals, and a hint of dark fruit.

M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a roasted and dry finish.

D - Very drinkable. Nicely balanced Oyster Stout. Really clean with a nice malt profile.

Pours wall to wall black. The head is dark brown but dissipates quickly, leaving little lacing.

The aroma is big on chocolate with some lighter coffee and roast flavors in the mix. There's a pleasant caramel malt sweetness holding things up. The contribution from the oyster shells is more meaty than fishy. The beer has a salty, umami-ish character. Sorta reminds me of how caramelized onions combine savory and sweet but with a fresh sea breeze twist. The beer has a surprisingly rich aroma for a <5% abv beer. Seems like HenHouse did a nice job with this one.

The taste starts sweet with caramel and grows increasingly roasty and savory. It finishes with a touch of hop bitterness and a lingering coffee aftertaste. Feel is smooth. Carbonation is pretty low. This oyster stout is a great example of a lower abv beer that doesn't skimp on flavor or creativity. It's hearty, interesting and only 4.9% abv. Great stuff.

This is an excellent, clean but characterful stout.

Black, it has a fairly big tan head slowly shrinking to a foamy ring and a bit of lace.

Aroma is light roasty - earthy and minerally.

Taste is light but characterful roastiness, slight toasty caramelly quality, light mineral, and a light gaminess throughout. It is clean but not bland and maintains its flavour nicely, has nice balance and is highly drinkable. However, this is a lighter type of stout and its character is not overly strong.

Had this at the 1 year annivesary of Henhouse at Taps in Petaluma. I absolutely loved it. There aren't enough dry stouts being brewed, at least here on the west coast (Russian River, Ruth McGowan's and Moylan's are the only ones I can think of).

I'm not sure what the oysters bring to the table, but this is a nicely drinkable dry stout, heavy on the bitter coffee and hop bitterness but somehow balanced with the sweetness and carbonation just enough to cut the typical roasted barley astringency you get from something like a Guinness or RRBV stout. Normally I prefer these on nitro, but this one had enough body, sweetness and creamy mouthfeel that I didn't really miss it. Heavier on the late hopping than is typical, but that isn't a bad thing, as it still tastes balanced and malt forward.

I'll be on the lookout for this one and will definitely drink it again. Also, it's nice to be able to finish a pint (an imperial pint no less) and not be plastered.
