A: Yellow straw in color, with a small amount of white head that rapidly disappears into the body of the beer.

S: Pretty standard fare, some light crisp malt aromas with perhaps a touch of skunk to it.

T: Tastes like a pale lager, some malt flavor, a touch of fruitiness, and a little lingering bread.

M: Medium with high carbonation.

O: Overall not bad, your basic run of the mill lager. (395 characters)

I just drank a 25 oz got it from the store in florida at Publix for 2.13 after tax its 1.99 before tax its a nice morning drink.

this is an amazing beer, really nice taste and gives you a nice feeling doesn't give you the real cheap feeling like some other high gravity beers give you, doesn't make you have all kinds of weird things going on in your head like some of the cheap beers do, really pleasant

highly recommend (425 characters)

12oz bottle, 4mos old, brewed by Anheuser Busch.
A: slightly spicy, Saaz?, light biscuit;
A: golden copper yellow.
T: light malty biscuit, nice Saaz flavor, metallic aftertaste...old malt? Mod+ carbonation.
Overall: decent pale lager. Better than most American adjunct lagers. (279 characters)

Look: Crystal clear pale yellow. Poured a nice big soapy white head that tripped over its self to dissipate. Mild Carbonation.

Smell: Just strait up pale bready malt.

Taste: Its a little brighter than the nose would indicate but is pretty much just pale bready malts. Also, there is a weird metallic thing going on that isn't very pleasant.

Feel: Light bodied. A little fizzy carbonation.

Overall: Not much to it. Not terrible but not very inspiring. Meh (458 characters)

Okay. This shits made in Los Angeles. It's all malt. Listen. All malt. Usually 8.99 a 12 pack 5% and all malt. It's delicious. I just drank an old chub Oskar Blues then cracked this one. It tastes silky smooth. No nasty aftertaste. It's pretty fucking premium tasting and it's a god damned macro. I keep a few cold. When you just don't want fuck my mouth flavor(hetero but not hateful) it's the perfect beer. I will drink this over any other macro. Period. Think again if you think this has rice round eye. (506 characters)

Limpid yellow with good white head. It smells like a rice lager. Sweet and a bit foul. It tastes okay! Not overly sweet. Lagery and watery and lightly hopped. Well carbonated. Aftertaste is slightly metallic. A pretty palatable rice lager. (302 characters)

Aroma: 70% grassy, 30% malty/grainy. Nostalgic summer "beer smell".

Appearance: two finger white head, soapy, dissipates; clear, light bubbles, golden-yellow.

Taste: Grain all the way through, carbonation upfront, dry hops in the middle-end; also in the end is a flowering of breadiness, still with grains in the background, bready and almost tangy aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: semi-dry, carbonated, light.

Finish: crisp, refreshing. (434 characters)

Nothing wrong with this macro. It's malty with a medium bitter finish. Maybe a bit grassy, maybe a bit cheap tasting, but I'm no snob--it is what it is, a malty beer that you try once at a Japanese restaurant. (209 characters)

A: crystal clear; medium gold in color; 1 finger white head that receded to a wispy cap; nice lacing;

S: grainy; a little bready; a little skunky;

T: grainy up front; a little malt sweetness by mid-palate that increases toward the end; finish is lightly bitter;

M: medium bodied; moderate to high carbonation;

O: I like this with Japanese food; (349 characters)

Served from a 25oz. can into a mug.

Look - darker yellow than it's American BMC counterparts. Clear and effervescent. Kept its head for the life of the pint.

Smell - metal, buttery. Not a whole lot going on.

Taste - more buttery flavors, more metal, small but sharp bite from the carbonation. With a large enough quaff you get some muted hops. According to the can this is a 100% malt beer so no corn flavors.

Feel - there's a sharp bite from the carbonation but is smooth otherwise. Not offensive.

Overall - Comparable to a good pilsener or helles lager. Even my wife who doesn't like the aforementioned styles enjoyed it. Would recommend versus any BMC & and many Euro imports. (684 characters)

Served cold from 330ml bottle into American pint glass. This one is contract brewed in the UK.

L) Light golden colour, crystal clear, lots of small bubbles. Thin but stable white head. Looks alright.

S) Mainly sweet munich-type malts, although some hints of sulphur.

T) Pretty good - a bit like a cross between a helles and a German pils. Slightly sweet bready malt dominates, with just a touch of hop bitterness if you look hard enough.

F) Fizzy and refreshing, same as any decent lager.

O) A good lager, would buy it again. A decent substitute if you can't get hold of a good German helles or pilsner. (612 characters)

Lousy, piss like color and flavor. Also a big headache beer. Last time I had it it was brewed in Canada, pretending to be Japanese. If your at a Japanese place try to find something much better, even mass produced Thai beers. (225 characters)

Based on the category this beer was placed in, this is the best there is. I can't think of another beer this style that has a better flavor and drinkability. I'm very very surprised Kirin Ichiban has such low ratings. (217 characters)

Tastes like newspaper. That being said - I'd drink this all day over a Miller Lite. This beer is useful if you're having incredibly spicy Thai food and need something to wash the fire off your gums. (198 characters)

Sampled last night on 4/12/15 but had this once before but that was a many years ago at a Japanese restaurant. Comes in a 12 ounce (355ml) bottle and maybe in cans as well. "Brewed under Kirin's strict supervision by Anheuser-Busch in Los Angeles and Williamsburg, VA." their "KIRIN ICHIBAN" contains right at 5% alcohol (ABV), like all other Bud's products. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured in to a 10 ounce vintage 'COORS' pilsner glass.

Brew pours a hazy golden-yellow in color with a thin white head. A good amount of lacing was seen when sipped that stuck to the sides of the glass.. The aroma is of malts with a hint of sweet corn and rice. Pretty much is said for the taste. Nothing special at all really. Drinkable but that was it. Lighter-bodied with higher carbonation. Overall, it probably is better on tap (if it comes that way) at a Japanese restaurant. (899 characters)

Poured from the large bomber size at a Japanese Steak House in Douglasville, GA. into a pint glass.
Aroma- Has that malt aroma that I remember well from my Marine days spent in Japan.
Appearance- Has a weak clear yellow color that reminds me of watered down Miller High Life.
Taste- This is purely a Japanese version of an American Macro Lager, it is ok at best.
Palate- This is a light bodied beer with moderate carbonation. Has a slight skunk finish to it.
Overall- Kirin Ichiban is not "number one" in my book when it comes to Japanese macros. I find Asahi and Orion to be far superior in flavor both in Japan and imported into the states. (643 characters)

Pours a clear yellow, left a fizzy white head that receded quickly. Left no lacing on the glass.

Malt with an odd fruity like note in the scent which was interesting.

Malted grains take the start and middle, and grape like fruity note takes the finish. Light american style lager, slightly sweet.

Thin, light-bodied. Refreshing and easy to drink.

Not terrible by any means, would prefer this over American macros. (417 characters)

Light flavored American style lager. All the malt and taste is up front and has a smooth clean finish. It tastes better than it's slightly skunky smell. (154 characters)

Very nice for mass produced beer. Tried the original Japan made version, there are other country specific origins but when having to taste review do the original? (163 characters)

Review: Can of Kirin Ichiban Pale Lager, 5%ABV

Kirin Ichiban, my first time having a Japanese beer, was impressive on its first showing. In general it was pretty nice and quite drinkable

On pouring, the appearance was of a pale yellow colour with a very big creamy head that lingers for some time, and leaves a bit of lacing on the glass. Had a nice look to it.

Aroma: A pleasant sweet smell of a light grain and malt aroma.

A nice light beer to drink and went down easy enough.

The taste had some initial sweetness followed by a very enjoyable bitter aftertaste of hops, kind of creamy. Tastes of hay, wheat, and light floral hops.

A good clean, crisp beer, smooth, I liked it. Recommended for someone who is looking for a nice light beer to relax with (765 characters)

Despite the claim of 100% malt this smells like an adjunct lager. Corny, with bubblegum sweetness there is some barley malt aroma.

The flavor tastes like an adjunct as well. Very corny, sweet and some grain it's easy to drink but I'd dispute the malt claim.

As far as Japanese beers go I find this to be less attractive than Sapparo but better than Asahi. (357 characters)

Ok I rated this awhile ago but was working in the yard this weekend and needed refreshment bad. Lo and behold there was a 24 ozer in the back of the beer fridge that looked like it would fit the bill. That thing was canned in April 2012 and I think It was a leftover from the beach vacation later that same year. It said best within 180 days so I figured should still be good 3 years later. To my amazement it tasted no different to me than if I had just picked it up that afternoon. Went down smooth as hell and the desired effect was achieved.

Really, it's not awful. (572 characters)

Kirin Ichiban - Kirin Brewery Company, Limited. Poured from a bottle into a pint glass, this brew's got no head or lacing, mild carbonation, and a clear medium gold body.

Smells like banana esters, and that's pretty much it.

It tastes very malty, yet clean and smooth

Mouthfeel is very crisp.

Overall a 3 for Kirin Ichiban - Kirin Brewery Company, Limited. I may buy this brew again, but I highly doubt it. (426 characters)
