Sallow maize, not the 'rich amber color' that is claimed. The cotton white head isn't as soft, as unsticky and as short-lived as the heads on some beer of this style, but neither is it anything special. It looks slightly pathetic as is deflates, and results in no more than scattered sudsy specks of lace.
The nose is almost absent. And what I do appreciate... I don't appreciate. Kirin Light doesn't really smell like beer at all, more like faux beer. At best it smells like low-alcohol beer. Even though it doesn't make me turn away in disgust, I have no desire to keep on sniffing.
Because Kirin Ichiban (a Japanese rice lager) was so weakly flavored and had such a light body, I wasn't expecting much out this offering. Actually, it has a little flavor (although I wish it didn't). It tastes as artificial as it smells; as if beer extract was added to lightly carbonated distilled water.
There's nothing resembling malt or hops in the flavor profile. The brewery must have a terrific sense of humor since (in addition to the 'rich amber color' gag) they claim that Czech hops are used. Trust me, there isn't one shred of hop flavor or hop bitterness is this abomination of an alcoholic beverage. At 3.31%, we can't even count on alcohol to add a little flavor.
Amazingly, the body/mouthfeel seems lighter and more insubstantial than water. How is that possible? A fine fizziness early gives way to a barely noticeable fizziness late. This beer has one of the most crapalicious mouthfeels that I've run across in a long, long time.
Kirin Light is bad. It's even worse than some low-alcohol beer and I have a hard time thinking of them as beer at all. My advice can be boiled down to one word that can be found on the reviewing drop-down menu next to the number 1.0. And that word is... avoid.

My girlfriend says that this beer smells like wet-dog. She makes me laugh. Actually the beer smells quite grainy for a light lager, and with an earthy hop character that hinges on the pungent side. The good news is that that's the worst of it. The beer pours an expected crystal-clear, fizzy brew with fleeting head retention. After the aromas, the flavors offer little of anything. Very faint pils malts and rice, but those are short lived. The hops only encorage a balance and are equally as fleeting. The feel is quite watery and carbonated. The beer simply offers little character or interest.

Went out to the hibachi steakhouse last night and they had the last two on the menu that I had not tried, this being one of them. Poured a dull straw yellow with a big white fizzy head. Lots of visible carbonation, but the fizzy yellow water type, no lace. The smell was very faint, if there at all. What I could pick up was maybe a hay, or wheat smell. Again very very faint, and hardly there at all. The taste was very light and non descript, but that is about what one would expect from a light lager. A light grain, just enough of a taste to know I was not drinking water would be the best way to describe it. Decent feel, again just the cold well carbonated. Crisp, and a clean finish, no aftertaste. Overall this was totally forgettable, as I imagined it would be. Their version of Bud Light I imagine and if thats the case, it is spot on. Nothing to see here, move along people.

A: The beer pours a clear golden straw with a fluffy white head, with surprisingly good retention.
S: Halfway decent nose. Not shockingly, it still pretty much just smells like rice. But, there is a bit of yeast and some light hop notes (mostly grass). Some light fruity esters of sweet apple.
T: Flavor is not too bad either. Lots of rice with a light malt note. Grassy hops with minimal bitterness and some more green apple esters and yeast.
M: The body is very light with a medium to high level of carbonation.
O: I liked this one better than Sapporo light. Nicer flavor with a bit less reliance on the pure rice flavor.

Half finger head on a clear straw to bright golden colored body. aroma is minimal with grains and some sweet corn. Flavor is the same but I am happy there are no off putting flavors although little flavor is there at all. Light body and moderate to high carbonation. Easy to drink, not flavorful but nothing really to turn you off. Basically slightly bitter water.

Appearance: Pours a clear, light yellow body with an airy, well-sized, white head.
Smell: It's a pretty mild aroma at best, with only some light, clean notes of barley and spicy hops.
Taste: A thin, light taste of malted barley marked by a faint degree of sweetness and lightly spicy hops with a complimentary bitterness. Clean, crisp finish.
Mouthfeel: Light-bodied. Medium-plus carbonation. A tad watery.
Drinkability: A light beer, of course, but one that's at least clean-tasting and fairly refreshing. There's a lot of true horrors in the land of lagers, but, thankfully, this wasn't of them.

A - Poured out a light yellow color. Highly carbonated with next to no head.
S - It smelled sweet and of corn/grains.
T - Tasted like corn and a little watery.
M - It is thin and very light-bodied.
D - Not the worst light lager, but certainly not the best. Nothing really jumped out at me.

Pours a crystal clear, very light straw gold body. It's topped by a full, foamy, bright-white head head, but unfortunately it drops almost immediately! It keeps a thin foamy collar but hardly any surface covering, and leaves no lace. The aroma is nice with a softly sweet graininess. Exceptionally clean. The body is light and gently crisp in the mouth - quite appropriate for a light beer. The flavor, however, expresses less character than the nose might lead you to believe. There's just a mild touch of grainy maltiness, and it's much less sweet than might be expected. It doesn't really finish as much as it just ends. In fact, the entire flavor is just like a short dry finish. Disappointing.

12 oz brown long neck bottle with an A&B “Bottled On” date on the back label. Brewed by Anheuser-Busch in the US.
The head retention is awful, barely a ring of lace. Good clarity, but that is a given. Very pale yellow colour.
Clean aroma, too clean with a hint of cereal grain.
Masterful crispness within a thin malty character, thin bodied and full of light cereal grain flavours. Hops are just another pawn in the game of lackluster flavours. Clean, clean and clean with little flavour to notice and a seltzer water influence.
What would be the politically correct term for this beer? Japanese American Light Crap? Please this beer is horrible, and now it is brewed in the US like that would make any difference other than someone cutting costs to line their pockets.

Born on date - as it's made for Kirin by A-B:
Pours light straw yellow with a thin white head that becomes a wide disappearing patch. Typical for style, at best.
The smell is not much of anything but seltzer water and some husk.
The taste is of lightly sweetened carbonated water. Pathetically void of anything, even for the style. Maybe some light husk, certainly seltzer water. Finishes...well, it hardly began, so there's not really a finish. Not really...anything, really. Yet, there's something going on that just doesn't taste right.
This reminds me of lightly sweetened carbonated water much more than a beer - even a macro light. Sad. A neighbor of mine likes this. She can keep it. I'll pass.

I was down in Baltimore this past weekend, visiting a college chum and attending the annual Brewers' Art Mid-Atlantic Holiday Gathering. I took Amtrak to Penn Station and then began walking south to The Brewers Art when I passed Aloha Liquors, a little store that never fails to have something new and unusual available, prompting me to stop in. I scored a 22-ounce bomber of this, as well as some Korean gems that are sure to be just as good.
My initial pour netted me two-plus fingers of foamy, bone-white head with extremely limited retention. Hey, I realize that I am not the handsomest of guys, but do you have to take off so quickly? Color was a pale lemon-yellow with NE-quality clarity. I have urinated darker water than this. Nose had a faint lager/corn adjunct sweetness, but it was all pretty mild. Mouthfeel was thin and watery with only the barest of taste in the mouth. I am glad it was nearing my bedtime as this was a major snooze-a-thon. Holy boring, Batman! Finish was equally band and ho-hum, making for a less-than-scintillating experience. That said, I do not feel that I should dun it too badly. I knew what I was buying, but I had never seen it before, either in CAN or bottle, and I have certainly had much worse, including from the style. Hey, it beats a cup of tea before retirement, I promise you. Don't avoid it if it is one of the few options open to you - it could be the lesser of several evils.

A: Pours a crystal clear pale yellow in color with moderate amounts of visible carbonation. The beer has a half finger tall fizzy bright white head that quickly reduces to nothing. Minimal lacing is observed.
S: Light aromas of grain and rice adjunct malts.
T: Slightly sweet with flavors of the rice and grain adjunct malts. Some light amounts of bitterness in the finish.
M: Light bodied with heavy amounts of carbonation. Slightly thin.
O: Very easy to drink and very sessionable. This is probably one of the less offensive light lagers as it at least still has some taste to it. Would not be on the top of the list of beers to have again.

Pours a pale yellow color, some carbonation, little foamy white head, with some sticky lacing left behind. The nose is sweet, grainy, with some rice notes. The taste is sweet, kinda malty, grainy/ricy/skunky. Light Body. Would not drink this one again.

A: Poured a clear maize-gold with a frothy white head that started out 2 fingers high and was very active on the surface with tiny eruptions and craters. The head soon diminished to a thin, fizzy covering while retention was moderate and the lacing non-apparent. Visible carbonation was very light.
s: There was a slight skunkiness upon first opening which thankfully was not detected on the actual nose. The aroma had light corn, dried rice and was very light overall.
T: For flavor there was some light dried butter grains with hints of fresh lemons. Overall was hard to judge, but was clean, crisp, refreshing, and faired well considering the style, which is all you can ask.
M: light, a little watery, with a brisk lemon hopping while finishing with a dry hoppiness. For a light beer it actually felt pretty good on the tongue.
D: Drinkability overall was average, per style. Certainly had no problem putting this down and at 95 calories and being a light beer I would ponder to say this is one of the better light beers (with exception of sam adams) that ive tasted, and I could drink a couple of these without hesitation.

Had these at an overpriced dinner for the quality with a borderline crazy chick. They had a similarity of appearing light and ditzy. Aroma wasn't offensive, very mild and bland of medicinal corn notes.
Really wasn't much to speak of, lots of water, more bitterness than it should have given the lack of much substance to the beer. Prickly carbonation. Pretty clean overall except the bitterness, must be a decent use of rice to this beer.

As a rule Id never sample one of these Light beers, but as I was given a sixer by my neighbor, as her soon to be daughter-in-law is from Japan, so she bought the beer only to find out she doesnt drink, so here goes nothing.
The beer escapes the bottle a very light translucent yellow with a moderate in size bright white head that is frothy in texture, and the lace a very thin sheet to conceal the glass. Nose is all malt what there is of it, crisp and clean, start is sweet, thinly malted, top is light to moderate in feel. Finish is sternly acidic, hops sparse and the aftertaste desert dry, drinkable if youre into light beers and I must say a tad better than most.
