My first time venturing out to the far west side of town to check out this heralded Mecca of beer here in Madison. I must say I was impressed. Their selection of beers is huge, a entire wall of refridgerated cases with vast amounts of local, regional, and national crafts brews, a nice selection of imports (more british brews than I've been able to find elsewhere in town) and plenty of swill too. One of three places in Madison (along with Riley's, Star Liquor and their University Ave. location) to find Lake Louie brews as well, which are always worth a try. The best part is their walk-in singles cooler, behind the huge wall of cases.A big shelf of rare and not-so rare crafts and imports. Lots of Belgians, lambics, Rogues, Young's, Sam Smith's and a host of other brews I've never seen anywhere else. Beware - it's fricking cold in there, I was pretty indecisive and froze my ass off in shorts. I've pretty much exhausted Riley's singles case so it was ncie to see some fresh meat. The sales staff is incredibly friendly and the lady who checked me out seemed very knowledgeable about beer, and told me a little about some of the beers I picked up and how I got some pretty good stuff. Like Riley's you get a 10% discount on 6 or more singles, which is a nice little deal. A little on the pricey side, some a little more than Riley's which is pricey in and of itself, but not astronomical. Definitely worth a look if you're in town, I only wish it was closer to campus.

Stop by when I am in town. At least once a month. They carry a large selection of local craft brews and Wisconsin beers. Given the smaller size of the store, they provide a very good selection. Make sure to check the walk in cooler for a nice selection of bombers.
Wife enjoys the wine selection and a helpful staff.
Thirsty Thursdays offer specials and taste testing of beers. One Saturday afternoon they were taste tasting vodka.
A very helpful, non snooty, staff. A Total Wine has opened about a mile from Steve’s causing some concern for Steve’s future. I give Steve’s the bulk of my business and will continue to do so.

I've been here once. It's smaller than the McKee location but it's clean and well lit. Service was friendly and helpful. There is a pretty good selection of quality craft beer from around the country. I'll stop here again.

Stopped in on our last day in Wisconsin to put together a couple of mixed 6's of Wisconsin only beers for friends at home.
Left with nothing more than a sampler 12 of New Glarus.
Staff didn't seem to have time to be bothered, even though the store was nearly empty.
There where numerous empty spaces in the single bottle section which was quite small. Actually saw a much better selection in a BP gas station earlier in the day, but held out for Steve's because of the reviews here.
Oh well, live and learn.

Staff was helpful and gave me accurate information on when to expect a shipment. They also do a good job keeping their Facebook page up to date with new arrivals. If you are in the area, I recommend stopping in to see what is on hand. I was able to pick up some nice bottles from TG and Karben4.

Recommended as the bottle shop to stop in by a friend-of-a-friend from Madison. Stopped in here on the way out of town during a road trip from Chicago to Decorah, IA. Did not get to go to any other bottle shops in Madison but this place had a great selection. I found all of the New Glarus fruit beer 750mls and most of their regulars. I also got some Central Waters beers and other random WI locals of which there were many. Be sure to look in the walk-in cooler as I found a few bombers in there that were some of the best bottles I found during an 8000 mile road trip around the US. Prices were great compared to the East Coast cities, which was a big plus for me. I was also impressed by the fact that almost all of the beer was in the fridge, perfect since I had to put it into a cooler anyways. All around great bottle shop if you are looking for some quality brews.

I love this store. I live in Madison and stop by most of the liquor stores around town every couple weeks, but always seem to find the best selection at Steve's. It's a solid mix of the good local brews, without filling half the store with junk. They are always one of the first to get new breweries to town and have a Twitter presence which I personally love. They generally run $1 per product that other stores, but totally worth it to support local and have that extra knowledge on tap. My only knock is that they could have more singles for sale, but that's not a big deal. Also love that everything, including bombers, are in a cooler.

Visited Steve's on recommendation from a friend while in Madison to visit family for the holidays and was incredibly pleased with the highly knowledgable staff and selection.
I'm looking forward to coming back around Christmas time when I visit my family next.

Well, there hasn't been a review of Steve's for almost a year now, so I'm happy to give it some fresh props.
Emily and I made our way out to Steve's in hopes for some off the wall stuff (actually, I was thinking they may have some Blushing Monk left, but no luck). They had a really nice selection of singles both in 12 oz. and larger format bottles. The cooler is stocked with all sorts of beer, with a great selection of all these fine Wisconsin beers that aren't available anywhere else.
I ended up scoring a couple bottles of Pannepot 2010, and some Lagunitas Sumpin Wild, which I was surprised to see still on the shelves, I thought this went quickly. A great lil store, well worth the effort to make it out from downtown.
