American Pale Ale (APA) |  5.40% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
Regionally grown American pale malt is blended with rich European malt to produce a lighter bodied beer, bright in color, with a taut white head. Then there are the hops - four pounds per barrel to be exact. Willamettes, Cascades, CTZ, and Summits give this brew a citrus punch and spicy character.

12 oz can served chilled into a goblet.

Dy Tripper is a pale golden amber with a slightly hazy appearance. It has tight white head with good retention and some sticky lace.

Aroma is pleasantly hoppy with great citrus notes. It's more hoppy than most pale ales but maybe not quite as much as a good IPA.

Flavor is surprisingly bitter for a pale ale. It has initial sweetness but has a great bitter bite from middle to end. The hops are fresh and citrusy with a hint of grass.

Mouthfeel is medium light in body and nicely carbonated. Bitterness is more in line with an IPA but malts are that of a pale ale. This leads to a slightly out of balance pale ale but most hop heads won't mind.

Overall an excellent beer, whatever style you want to call it.

Appearance: brownish amber color. Light head of about half a finger on the pour and was present while drinking. Below average active carbonation in the glass while drinking.

Smell: The front is airy, floral hops. Tropical fruits mesh with with a slightly nutty malt body. Accents of caramel and toffee added by the malt as well. The hop tones have a bubblegum sweetness that is very inviting and refreshing.

Taste: Semi-sweet malt presence with some piney bitter hop tones picked up on the front. More of the lighter floral hop tones pick up in the body and toward the back end. Sticky, resinous malt wears on the palate throughout drinking and provides a full body. The finish is continuing bold malt and some medium bodied bitter hops.

Mouthfeel: Heavier on the mouthfeel then the aroma would lead you to believe. Thick malt layers the palate. Hops bite throughout.

Overall: A hoppy pale ale but definitely keeps itself in the realm of being a pale ale with a big malt presence. Takes a toll on the palate though, certainly not the easiest drinking pale in the business.
