Poured from tap at Indeed tap room into a clear glass.

Appearance: Pours opaque black with a one finger creamy tan foam head. Foam fades slowly, leaving a nice sticky lacing.

Smell: Bright pine and citrus hops followed by whiffs of dark roasted malt and coffee.

Taste: A blast of pine hops up front followed quickly by stong dark roasted malts and coffee flavors. The hops leave a lingering bitterness that mix well with the strong roasted malts and coffee flavors.

Mouth Feel: Creamy and medium-full bodied with a good medium carbonation. Finishes with a bitter snap and dark roasted malt tang on the finish.

Overall: Love this black ale, but because of the big flavors and high ABV I limit myself to just one or two. This is a great fall/winter ale, and I hope they bring it back this fall.

Indeed is one of my favorite new local breweries. I've had this once before, on-tap at the brewery. Enjoying this bottle on a lovely Sunday. Tasted 4 May 2014.

The beer is stunning. Pours black, though it's a sort of light black, in that it's not totally opaque. Deep brown at the edges. Three fingers of cascading medium tan head, outstanding retention, and some of the best lacing I've ever seen on a beer. Essentially perfect.

Smell is that unique mix that hoppy black ales bring. Citrus hops that blend so well with roasted, lightly charred malts. It's like orange-flavored chocolate, and it works just as well. What sets this one apart from so many others is the bright aromatic hops, and their near-perfect balance with the dark malts.

Taste isn't as good as the smell, but it's still pretty darn good. There's a lot more char, a lot more bitterness, and that (combined with the way aromatic hops never come through nearly as much in the taste) makes it more tilted, sharper, less dimensional (I'd say one-dimensional but it's better than that). In this respect, it's like many others.

Feel is fine. Medium-bodied, kinda chewy. Has that "I expect a stout and get something lighter" surprise factor that this style often does. Carbonation is right where it should be, and it's persistent, but not too much.

A very tasty hopped-up black ale, with great light citrus character over the darker base. Reminds me a surprising amount of Surly's Damien, though that is a much lower-ABV beer. To be fair, though, the alcohol in this is shockingly well-hidden. I'd believe it if someone told me it was half what the bottle says. Really good stuff.

Appearance: Black, lots of sediment, slow settling frothy head. More sediment than I typically like

Smell: Very hoppy.

Taste: smooth start, bitter finish that mellows quickly

Mouthfeel: Watery and dry finish

Not the best black Ale I have had but not bad. A bit pricey given alternatives.

Appearance: Black, enormous head.

Smell: Medium strength piney aroma.

Taste: Moderately sweet chocolate with a piney finish.

Overall: I'm not a big black ale fan but this was getting good reviews and I enjoyed Surly's Blakkr, so I figured I'd give Haywire a try. It is a solid beer with a good malty, chocolatey base and a noticeable piney hop finish. Still not my favorite style, but a pretty good beer.

Awesome 750ml received from a great BA, split into Deschutes tulips.

A: Not quite pitch black; tawny/transparent brown on the edge of the glass. Head is frothy and retains well.

S: Lots of pine and roast, some coffee and cocoa and a dusting of citrus hops. Smells spicy and earthy as well. Definitely a lot of hop presence for a beer thats been in my fridge at least a couple months...

T: Lots of hop presence, pine and that earthy spice seem to stand out the most. Roasted malt backbone is significant though, lending flavors of burnt barley, smoke, espresso and unsweetened bakers chocolate. Dry, piney finish.

MF: Bitter, medium-full body with ample carbonation.

O: Really hoppy and unique Black IPA. Good stuff.
