A- very dark red appearing black or very brown, tan head, receds too quickyl and leaves a thin layer and little lace
S- sweet balanced with roast, cacao nibs, sweet coco, some tangy zesty smell I cant really put my finger on, Im guessing that is the raisin. Oh, its kind of a Cola smell.
T- Cacao and vanilla up front, roast balances out well, I'm glad they dried it out to balance, vanilla lingers on, little to no hop flavor, again that strange tang that I'm guessing comes from the raisins. Its that Cola flavor
M- Well dried out to encourage drinkability, if it we less attenuated I think it might be difficult to drink much of.
O- This has been my least favorite Indeed, all their other stuff is much better. To be honest I think it is just way too convoluted and over-engineered. The can reads like a cake recipe, cacao nibs, vanilla, raisins, brown sugar AND natural flavors, whatever those may be. I dont think they needed to add all those extras, each one on its own or with one more ingredient might have led to more complimentary flavors, but the kitchen sink approach didn't result in a successful beer for me.

Dark lacy concoction. Reddish hue. Light tan head persists.
Aroma of dark fruits as raisins. No hop aroma.
Rich complex malts, chocolate and vanilla dominates but loaded with cherry, brown sugar flavors too. Orange or citrus is present. Some hop bitterness way in the finish. Balanced to the malt, there are plenty of hop flavors and appropriate bitterness for a winter warmer, american style.
A little thin but clean fermentation and intense malt complexity leave palate fully satisfied.
Overall, this complex winter ale is unusual and satisfying. A little more body for a fuller mouthfeel would be a plus or just drive a little more gravity from base malt and get more warmth AND body. But this beer does not disappoint and it's unusual character and wonderful balance make this an awesome beer.

Pours near pitch black, half finger of deep tan head, nice lacing
Smell is vanilla, deep chocolate, roasted matls and not much else
Taste is deep chocolate, dark fruit raison and plum, vanilla, cherry notes, toffee and caramel, finishes with more chocolate taste
Mouthfeel is medium light, a little heavy on the carbonation, could use some more body
Good beer, would be a nice change of pace beer. Interesting blend of a lot of flavors, really lacks in the body department though.
