Pours near pitch black, half finger of deep tan head, nice lacing

Smell is vanilla, deep chocolate, roasted matls and not much else

Taste is deep chocolate, dark fruit raison and plum, vanilla, cherry notes, toffee and caramel, finishes with more chocolate taste

Mouthfeel is medium light, a little heavy on the carbonation, could use some more body

Good beer, would be a nice change of pace beer. Interesting blend of a lot of flavors, really lacks in the body department though.

very easy drinking winter warmer, sort of modeling itself on a belgian quad, at least in terms of malt bill and flavor notes, but drinking a whole lot easier. the can says brown sugar, but i don't get a lot of that after the head has settled well enough for me to take a big whiff. i get the vanilla, and i really get the raisins, apparently pureed or something before added to the kettle. all the sugar that should be here is fermented out, this is not at all sweet for what it is, a testament to the yeast, which has cleaned the beer up nicely without imparting a ton of flavor. balance with the additives in taste, but the vanilla is the strongest. fuller bodied but honestly just a bit light for the style. like that we have a winter warmer here without all the usual spice accompaniment. i would buy this, great use of raisins too

Produced a finger, and a half of beige head. Beer color is a dark mahogany, (just about translucent).

Smell is of dark fruit, biscuit, brown sugar. Nice, would be nicer if it was a bit stronger.

Taste is similar, but with some added dark chocolate taste, and light hop bitterness. Medium mouth-feel, and carbonation.

Good seasonal!

Pours out dark as night with a tiny brown head that dissipated right away. Smell is of raisins and other dark fruit. I really don't get much else from the nose. Taste is much like the nose. Really I only get dark fruits, maybe a little brown sugar, really just not that much going on but it is pretty tasty but nothing special to be sure. Mouthfeel is ironically slightly thick even though it seems not very carbonated. Just not a very complex beer in my opinion. It tastes OK and I wouldn't not drink it but it's not anything that I would buy again.

Pours out a deep dark brown with a light white head and not much retention. Deep malty aroma, smells like husky English malts, cocoa and dried fruit. Flavor is balanced to slightly sweet with brown sugar and chocolate, dark fruit and a bit of roastiness showing through. Raisins and vanilla add a nice touch. Hops show up on the finish as a light bitterness. Mouthfeel is lacking a bit – on the thin side and bubbly.

Overall, I enjoyed this much more than I was expecting considering how much I disliked Old Friend. Interesting and light enough to have a few in one sitting. Will purchase again.

Edit: had another six pack and had to bump it up. Lot of nice flavors here packed into a 6.5% beer.
