Elegant bottle, let's see its interior beauty. Yellow golden color with a thin head with low retention.
It has a bad Adjunct Lager aroma even at cold temperature, notes of corn, booze and sweet bread.
Refreshing flavor of sweet corn and malt, a bit of spices, oxidized apple, diacetyl and light herbal hops.
Light body with good carbonation.
A mass adjunct lager below average given more noticeable defects. Not awful while near freezing temperatures and if you like the style.

Earlier tasting the beer showed much better than the new bottle that was just brought back from Bolivia for me - 10/25/10.

Pours a very light gold with a lovely firm and thick pure white head.

Nose is almost non-existent; very slight yeast character but one must really search.

Mouthfeel is thin but well balanced for what it is and with decent albeit light/quick carbonation.

Flavors are also virtually non-existent! No character - almost nothing describeable. Tastes like carbonated slightly bitter, slightly citric water.

A very light yeast bitter finish if you look for it.

11-07-09 Review: Light clear orange amber, nice white head.

Nose slight, hints of sweet pineapple with sour orange. Almost a light sour nose character.

Mouthfeel is thin and light with light carbonation.

Flavors are very light but not without some appeal. Light, almost smokey fresh peaches, light malt, hint of grilled grapefruit. Interesting flavors, wish they were more assertive and a bit bolder.

Light watered malt/grapefruit finish.

Not sure if I will be able to reach 250 characters, it's a very simple review: one of the inanest beers I've ever had. Not aroma, not taste, not body... nothing. In the best scenario, a good thick head. Bland and boring, I can't even find it refreshing or drinkable.

Pours a somewhat clear pale/white with a small almost non existent head. Smells of tons of corn and some malt. First sip is corn and more corn with a not much hop presence with a bitter finish. Very light bodied and typical of beers from Latin America. Pretty bad stuff...hardly worth boiling hot dogs in.

exp 10/25/2012

A: Very light, tons of violent carbonation rushing to the top, huge head
S: a hair sweet and grassy for an aal. a bit sour.
T: Not great, weird sourness, muddy flavor,
M: Leaves the mouth kind of grimey, filmy, almost slimy.
O: A pretty bad AAL.

look: 3 | smell: 2 | taste: 2 | feel: 2.5 | overall: 2

Appearance: Pours a clear, golden body with a tired, thin ring of white bubbles.

Smell: Light pale maltiness with some faint floral hints and an odd accompanying note of bell peppers.

Taste: Pale malts, lightly sweet. Floral tones and again there's a slight vegetal quality running loose. No apparent bitterness. Unfortunately, that odd taste holds fast all the way through the finish. Bleh.

Mouthfeel: Thin-bodied. Medium-low carbonation.

Drinkability: A poor, shameful example even for a South American lager.

Pours a glass full of gold content with a small (just about a finger) white head that quickly settles to only a small lacing.
The aroma is gentle. There is some malt and also some grains. Also some sour aroma is noticeable.
The taste is slightly sweet at first but the body is completely bland with no real finish. Lacks some bitterness and is slightly watery.
Drinkable, but not much to the taste.

Clear, bud light like in color and taste, Pacena is Bolivia's national beer. I wasn't thrilled with my choice at a local Cuban resto. But I will say that though the mouthfeel is comparable to a bud light, taste is moderately better. I wouldn't go with Pacena as my choice for an adventurous night out, but it was worth a try anyway.

The colour is very pale straw yellow; the finger thick white airy head slowly sinks down leaving no lacing.

The mild smell is malty with a sour note of dough. There is an odd bitter note of glue, too.

The taste is mild. Some malty bread like malt, a dry bitter hint. And... Well, that’s it. The aftertaste might give some hints of bitterness and sweetness, but that might only be in my imagination.

The carbonation is milder than average. Large, somewhat sharp bubbles. The liquid is watery.

Probably the palest beer I ever had. But I guess it is not fair to judge it on a grim Scandinavian winter night, this beer is probably better on a hot south American dusty summer afternoon.

A boring beer, but i am still very thankful to my colleague Kjell who travelled around half the world to get me this can.

A very pale straw yellow with loads of bubbles feeding a very long lasting bone white soapy head that leaves several partial rings of lace well down the glass, a rare 5

S and down hill we go, skunky corn and not much else

T not far from the smell but with a little wet hay

M light and waaayyy overcarbonated, thankfully the finish is clean

O a little skunky corn lager I assume nothing special

cheaper then bottled water here in Bolivia a country tick if anything

Very bright, light straw colour and a large white and frothy head that presents good retention value that leaves some nice lacing in the glass.
The nose is grainy with a floral kind of citrusy presence. The taste is also grainy and very bitter.
Dry mouthfeel, moderate carbonation, low alcoholic strength and light body. Lingering bitter aftertaste.

Overall: crisp and very refreshing. Although Paceña is not much different from any other macro lager, it can be appreciated on a hot summer day.

My first Bolivian tick. Thanks, Patrick.

A: The beer pours a clear golden straw color with a nice white head on it. Surprisingly good retention.

S: Skunk all the way on the nose. Plenty of corn to go with what is a pretty mild malt/bread aroma. There is a bit of yeast and lots of very sweet corn syrup and sugar. Perhaps a hint of apple juice.

T: The beer tastes much the same as it smells. Decently skunky with lots of corn, corn syrup, sugar, and apple juice. Light grass notes along with a very subtle bitterness.

M: Light in body with a medium carbonation.

O: I expect more from any future Bolivian beers.

Served in a Dogfish Head shaped pint glass.

So many AALs out there...no wonder people think beer's weak. This one, a Bolivian entry, pours a clear pale straw topped by a shirt-lived finger of white fizzy foam. The nose comprises watery wheat, corn syrup, and aluminum foil. Sniff it some time, you'll see what I mean. The taste is sweeter, some extra corn syrup thrown in there "for taste", but the watery wheat is there in the same quantity, joined by what I can only assume is rice, and a relatively small metallic twinge sneaks its way into the end. The body is light, with a fizzy carbonation and a crisp finish. Dammit, we need to get some better beer into the hands of the hitherto suffering Bolivians. Boo this.

A: Pours a crystal clear pale yellow in color with very light amounts of visible carbonation. The beer has a thin (1/8 finger) white head that quickly reduces to a mottled surface of extremely thin film with a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: The overall smell of this beer is rather mild but the primary aroma is that of grainy adjunct malts. There are very light hints of corn as well.

T: Similar to the smell, the primary flavor is that of grainy adjunct malts with some lighter hints of corn. There is a light amount of sweetness upfront which quickly becomes bitter (but that bitterness does not really linger).

M: Light bodied with moderate to heavy amounts of carbonation. Slightly thin/watery.

O: Very light and easy to drink but not really anything special. Very mild in the flavor and the smell. Probably would not grab this one again but worth trying.

Very light yellow body ( lighter than lemonade ) with a big foamy white head that leaves a little hint of lace. Aroma was lightly grassy/grainy with a little skunkyness. Although the smell inferred a skunky taste there was none. There was a grassy sweetness at the begining followed by a light bitterness.

A: Straw-colored and loaded with small bubbles. The tall white head is very soapy and light. Almost no lacings.

S: Adjunct corny smell with vanilla and marzipan. Butter and some citric notes.

T: Rather fruity, actually - both citric fruits as well as apples. But there is also corn in the bready malt. Some faint bitter hops.

M: Light body, rich carbonation and no aftertaste.

O: Rather refreshing and summery.

beer pours easily enough into a more yellow than gold body with a full white head, see about 6 lines of carbonation.. fairly large, head lasts a good while, an odd and hard to describe smell, almost a rotted hops with a touch of apple schnapps. first sip puts it light hoppy start and then changes into light flavors of lager... not bad. didnt know bolivia had beer either.

Pacena was a light, clear straw color with a full sustaining head. The aroma was a little grainy and citrusy. The taste was slightly sweet with a little hoppiness with some smooth malt. There was also a bit of buttery taste that ran into the slightly dry finish. This beer was better than I anticipated. Maybe it was the pure Andean water from 12,000 ft. above sea level that made the difference. Another good hot weather beer that I should try with spicey food.
