330 ml bottle poured into pint glass 17/8/11
A looks black but once held to candle light it glows a deep maroon with plenty of bubbles popping up of the side feeding a thick mocha head that hangs on for some time slowly falling to a thick film that leaves plenty of lace well down the glass
S some fennel and faint coco powder
T a little molasses on top of what I smell with just a little burnt wood
M very over carbonated and quite thin considering the color
O nothing offensive but it tastes pretty basic and has way too much bubbles
I'm guessing the altitude must help with carbonation and retention because Ive had some of the best looking average beers here in the Andes

Black reddish color with a thin aired caramel head with short retention and leaving some scattered laces.
Relatively nice aroma of toasted malts, caramel and some chocolate.
Sweet flavor of caramels, buttered chocolate and some earthy hops.
Medium body with good carbonation. A bit sticky.
A bit too sweet for me, though it has a nice aroma, at least for my initial expectations and it has a good presence of toasted malts.

A lagered dark beer.
Unsurprisingly pours black, as in the name--tints brown on the edges, with a finger-head that dissipates quickly, but remains at the top throughout.
Aroma has a bit of malt in it, but is unremarkable.
Somewhat fruity, with just a hint of malt on the end of the taste. Nothing particularly attention grabbing, and quite sweet. Difficult to tell if there are hops present.
Mouthfeel is pleasant and appropriately carbonated.

Not a lot of expectation surrounding this beer. Really, I didn't know what I was getting into. Does Paceña know how to make a stout? Although I'm forced to agree with the bock classification as it is a lager. Well, let's get on with it.
Appearance is very dark, stouty if you will. Creamy, billowy, khaki head that has decent retention.
Scent is of dark malts...ahh it's been a while. Also some danky, coffee soaked hops show up in the nose, which is certainly welcome.
This beer has some life to it. As it crosses the palate, you can detect a hefty, quality, burn malt flavor profile. Showcased by slight coffee, flaky dark chocolate, and more than a pinch of tongue cringing hop bitterness.
This beer is a creamy, not heavy nor light lager that wants to be a stout, badly...or maybe that's just me pretending I'm drinking a stout in a stout-less land.
I like it! I think I've found a new regular in my fridge.
